Jasmine Bowie
Bio
Hello, my name is Jasmine Bowie. I am 18 years old and currently a senior in High school. I am the Battalion Commander for the Hirschi JROTC program and a part of the Precision Rifle Team, Color Guard Team, Physical Training Team, and Cyber Patriot & Academic, Team. I am also an officer in Student Council and National Honor Society as well as a full IB diploma Student, Peer Assistant Learning Strategies Volunteer, and on Teen court and Key Club.
My plans after high school are to attend college and major in Legal Studies and be a part of the Honors Program and ROTC Program in order to go to Law school. When I was 16 years old, I was sexually assaulted by one of the male cadets in the JROTC Program. I received no support from my administration and my JROTC Instructors forced me to be revictimized every day and be around my offender. My offender ended up getting charged and was adopted by my counselor at school. I also ended up getting demoted by my JROTC instructors because I pressed charges against my offender.
However, once I got demoted they took everything from me and I had the help of my advocates and lawyers and even the legal team to help me get my rank and everything they took from me back. My JROTC instructors would yell at me and be very controlling of me and make sexual remarks towards me.
I continue to deal with this currently, and the Office of Civil rights is pursuing a case against my school district; I lost a lot from all of this including myself. I am still dealing with this at 18 and I want to be a lawyer in order to help others..

Bold Fuel Your Life Scholarship
There are many things that fuel my life. for example, one of those would be that my family and significant other play a massive role in my life. My significant other is like family and has always been there for me when nobody else would be. They also have been by my side going through being sexually assaulted and abused by a previous unwanted relationship. After this event in my life and dealing with my school and how they handled it, things did take a toll on me in a bad way and unfortunately, I was diagnosed with Major Depressive Order and PTSD.
To this day I still deal with the aftermath of having to be forced to be revictimized every day by my offender and watching my JROTC instructors choose my offender over me even when he was found guilty. The sad thing is that I was really close to my JROTC instructors and now as an 18-year-old still dealing with the aftermath and tons of legal cases I still am dealing with one and hope that my school gets punished for what they did to me. The assault has played a big part in my life because I changed into someone I don't want to be, however my family, significant other, advocates, and the legal team has shown me what it is like to be strong when you're on the verge of breaking every day.
The people in my life have played a huge part in me still being alive and striving to still live and have always been here when I couldn't be here for myself so for all that I am truly grateful for the people in my life because they inspire me to help others and that is what I want to do.
Bold Career Goals Scholarship
My dream is to be a lawyer. I want to go to college and major in Legal studies/criminal justice and be a part of an ROTC program. I also would like to take honors as well. I have been a part of the JROTC program for four years and am currently the battalion commander of the Hirschi JROTC program. I have been a part of every team in JROTC and am a part of Key Club, Student Council, and Teen Court. I also have been able to have many leadership positions and have been in charge of every team during my four years. I also am an IB Diploma student .
I have been apart of so many things while in high school so that I can be able to go to college. I also know that going to Law School is very competitive and I want to do everything I can to become a lawyer. When I was 16 I was sexually assaulted by a male cadet in the JROTC program and receive no support from my school. He ended up getting adopted by my academic counselor even when he was found guilty my JROTC instructors ended up demoting me for filing charges against him. Throughout all of this especially as a senior in high school who continues to deal with this; it has motivated me to want to become a lawyer and fight for others just like so many men and women have fought for me .I want to be able to help others and help them find a voice when sometimes they're afraid to. I am going to do everything I can to be a lawyer because after everything I have gone through; I really need this chance at happiness to do something I want to do.
Bold Goals Scholarship
Ever since I was younger I wasn't sure what I wanted to do as a career in my life. When I turned 11 years old I was diagnosed with depression and very suicidal. I always felt like nothing would get better; no matter how hard I tried I held on to the dream of becoming someone and doing something with my life. Once I started high school my mom made me join the JROTC program at my school. Throughout the years and still, to this day being in JROTC has helped me to realize what I wanted to do with my life and what I wanted to achieve as well. While being in JROTC when I was 16 I was sexually assaulted by a male cadet who repeatedly abused me. I spoke up about it but never received the support I needed.
Furthermore, he was charged with the crime and my school and school district got into a lot of trouble for forcing me to undergo these situations. Now as an 18 year old senior, I have met so many attorneys and lawyers, and advocates that have helped me and still help me. I have known them since I was 16 and they have been role models in my life. I have been asked to talk about my story in front of the public as well and while going through this process it motivated me even more to want to become a lawyer because I want to help people like me that didn't receive the support from the people that were supposed to protect them. My future goal is to go to college and then go to law school so I can be a lawyer and help be the voice for people like me.
Bold Hobbies Scholarship
In my opinion, hobbies are important to have because they can help us to be able to relax and when we feel ourselves getting upset or our mental health is affecting us we can turn to our hobbies as a coping mechanism. To begin with, one of my favorite hobbies is making art. Since I was in middle school I've always enjoyed art, but once I got into high school I didn't make art anymore. However, once I became a junior and I experienced one of the most traumatic situations in my life; I found myself turning to art as a coping mechanism to help with the trauma that I still go through today. And I found a way to turn my pain into art.
Furthermore, I also enjoy being outdoors, lacrosse and exercising. I love nature. I love being able to enjoy the world around me and how beautiful it can be. When I am surrounded by nature it makes me feel amazing and at peace. The feeling makes me not think about anything at that moment and I enjoy being able to have that. I also love lacrosse and exercising. I've always wanted to play lacrosse since I was younger because I found it to be interesting. If I could play one sport it would be lacrosse. My love for exercising came around when I felt like I was good enough because of my body and I felt that's the reason some people weren't kind to me. However, it inspire me to lose weight and I did and it increased my self confidence and now I love my body and love myself and I won't change myself to fit people's expectations because I'm more than just my body.
Empowering Women Through Education Scholarship
When I first began high school as a freshman my mother had me join the JROTC program at my school. I always heard stories about it because my mom knew people who were in JROTC and how successful they were. I knew I could benefit from it which made me want to make everyone proud, especially myself. I remember when the first day when I walked into JROTC I was very shy, nervous, and scared. However, as time went by I found myself quickly ranking up and achieving many achievements within my first year. I remember getting bullied for my achievements but I knew I was going to keep working hard to get to where I wanted to be.
Sophomore year came around and I got many opportunities and I found my voice which inspired me to keep chasing after my dreams. I enjoyed JROTC and the skills and mindset I gained from being a part of this program. I knew this would benefit me when I applied to colleges, however, although achieving an education was the goal I also had a passion for the things I was a part of, and if I was gonna do my hardest to achieve an education I was gonna work hard to get there. I obtain skills that I still use today as a senior in high school. However, once I found my voice in JROTC I was able to keep motivating myself to do this all to achieve higher education.
My junior year came and I was 16 years old. I had been announced the Cadet Sergeant Major meaning the second in charge within the JROTC Program and I got many leadership positions on all the teams and also an IB student too. I joined Key Club and Student Council and Peer Court and even was the Commander for my team. I ended up getting sexually assaulted and physically abused in so many ways by a male cadet and my life changed from then on. I had to deal with Protective orders and watch my school choose this cadet over me even when he was found guilty. I have gone through so much for a high school student and being revictimized every day and being told inappropriate things by my instructors and them allowing me to be sexually harassed by cadets and abused.
Now during my senior year, I have so many people who advocate for me and even advisers from the military who recommended me for the Naval academy and heard my story. However, dealing with lawyers, attorneys, military personnel, advocates, and dealing with the office of civil rights for the ongoing case against my school district has also inspired me to pursue becoming a lawyer. I want to become a lawyer to help others in need just like the many people that have been with me since I was 16. Now as an 18-year-old woman becoming a lawyer is the goal. I want to work hard to help others because after all, I have been through, I did have people there for me. I will fight for the many individuals that go through this and remind them that they can be strong and have a voice. I want to do this. I need to prove to everyone including myself that I did it. Having a higher education would mean the world to me because I am broken but I still hold on to this dream of becoming a lawyer and living a better life. I also would be the first in my family to pursue higher education.
Bold Persistence Scholarship
When I was a freshman I joined the JROTC program. My mom thought it was a good idea for me to join. I had always been a quiet kid so when I joined I was really shy. I was an outcast because I was a quiet kid; I have always worked hard, and when I joined this program I proved how hard I was willing to work.
I quickly ranked up, and with that came bullying. I was bullied by the upperclassmen and other cadets that were in my grade because I ended up outranking them and they had to listen to me including the ones over me too were mean to me. I was awarded many awards because of my hard work . Sophomore year came and I was still quiet, but I came out of my shell and commanded my first ever competition. I was told I was the loudest and best commander there.
I went up for a leader board and was promoted to Cadet Command Sergeant Major for my Junior year which meant I was the second in charge of the program and commander of my own team which was Color Guard. I was the Co-Captain of the Precision Rifle Team, Team leader for CyberPatriot& Academic Team; in charge of the Girls' PT Team and Raider Team. Now, I am the Battalion Commander which means I am in charge of the whole Battalion at Hirschi High school. My point is I never gave up despite every obstacle I remain in the program and worked my way up because of my hard work and dedication. I will never stop chasing after my dreams because I have worked hard to get to where I am. I found my voice and I'm never gonna stop using it.
