My name is Jasmin and I am a first-generation American. My parents immigrated from Mexico to the United States to give me and my siblings a better education and a better life. My parents left their dreams and goals behind the day they decided to leave the place they considered home. I am 27 years old and married. I have two children who are in elementary school. I am a full-time undergraduate student. I was accepted into the Communication Science and Disorder program in 2023. I will be graduating with my bachelors in 2025. I will be applying for graduate school to obtain my master's in Speech-Language Pathology. Growing up low-income meant my parents were not able to set money aside for college for me and my siblings. We lived paycheck to paycheck and sometimes barely made ends meet. I have to pay for college on my own. My mother can not help me financially with school and my father passed away a year ago. I am figuring out college by myself because no one in my family can help me. I am the first person in my family to attend a university. I want my children and my mother to watch me cross the stage and receive my diploma. Obtaining my diploma is the best way I can show my mother that her sacrifices were worth it and thank her for choosing to make them. My husband is a hard worker but being a one-income family means budgeting a must to make sure we make ends meet. It is difficult to find a job that will work around my class schedule, and my clinical hours, and fit my children's schedules. I want my children to see that all the moments where I had to sacrifice spending time with them were for a good cause. I want to help my family be financially stable. I want to be an example to my children of how dedication, hard work, and resilience can help them achieve the dreams they have for their lives. My journey through college is not just about me but also about my family and my parents. Graduating will help me make my family more financially stable. This scholarship will help me by relieving some financial strain that comes with college. This scholarship will help by paying part of my school tuition so I can continue my education. It will help me be a step closer to reaching my dream of being a Speech-Language Pathologist.
