I am a junior at Arizona Christian University and a student-athlete competing in beach volleyball. As a Native American from the White Mountain Apache Tribe and Mexican American, my background has shaped my values of perseverance, discipline, and giving back to my community. I strive to maintain a high GPA and graduate summa cum laude while preparing to pursue a master’s degree in kinesiology in 2027 and eventually a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. I also hope to transfer for a fifth year to compete at the Division I level and continue growing both academically and athletically.
My passion for physical therapy comes from my experience as an athlete and understanding the challenges of injury and recovery. I want to help individuals regain strength, confidence, and motivation while building meaningful relationships with my patients.
I am especially committed to giving back to my tribe by promoting health and wellness on the White Mountain Reservation. I hope to educate my community on nutrition, exercise, and injury prevention, while raising awareness about conditions like Type II diabetes. Ultimately, I aim to be a role model who reflects resilience, excellence, and a strong commitment to serving others.

Native Heritage Scholarship
Hello, my name is Jasmin Joseph, and I am a junior at Arizona Christian University. I am also a student-athlete and compete on the beach volleyball team. My educational goal is to maintain a high GPA throughout my undergraduate studies, striving for a 3.9 cumulative GPA so I can graduate with summa cum laude honors. Academic discipline is very important to me because it reflects my commitment to excellence and prepares me for the rigor of graduate school. After completing my degree, I plan to pursue a master’s degree in kinesiology in 2027. I also aspire to transfer for a fifth year to compete at the Division I level in beach volleyball. Through my undergraduate education, I plan to give back to the White Mountain Reservation by promoting health and wellness through clinics and outreach, helping address conditions like Type II diabetes in Native communities.
My primary career goal is to earn a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and become a licensed physical therapist. As an athlete, I understand the physical and mental challenges that come with injuries, which has inspired me to pursue this field. I want to help individuals recover physically while also supporting them mentally during rehabilitation. I also hope to educate others on how the body responds to exercise and serve my Native community through healthcare systems such as Indian Health Services.
In addition to my commitments, I volunteer at the Southern Arizona VA Medical Center, assisting in the emergency department by transporting patients, preparing rooms, and delivering lab samples. I also volunteer at the Pima Animal Care Center as a dog walker and enrichment volunteer, helping socialize and care for stressed animals. These experiences have strengthened my compassion, patience, and ability to serve others in challenging environments.
While I am proud of my achievements, my journey has been shaped by significant adversity. Since childhood, I endured domestic violence and abuse that became significantly worse during my junior year of high school. Out of fear of disrupting my family’s stability, I stayed silent for years, carrying the emotional weight on my own. Living in that environment created constant fear, confusion, and emotional distress, which later developed into nightmares, flashbacks, anxiety, and depression. Eventually, I built up the courage to speak out, which was one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made. Although the abuser was removed from my life, the effects of that experience did not disappear overnight. Healing required time, support, and access to the right resources. There were moments where I struggled to feel safe and regain a sense of control, but I remained committed to moving forward.
Volleyball became more than just a sport—it became my outlet and a source of strength. It allowed me to channel my pain into something positive, rebuild my confidence, and rediscover my identity. Through this journey, I have learned that trauma does not define who you are. Instead, it can shape you into a stronger and more resilient individual. My experiences have given me a deep sense of empathy and a desire to help others who may be facing similar challenges.
Today, I am truly grateful for the opportunities I have and the growth that has come from my experiences. Receiving this scholarship would greatly support me financially and allow me to continue pursuing my academic and athletic goals without added stress. I look forward to a future where I can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others and inspire those around me to overcome their own challenges.

I want to help individuals recover physically while also supporting them mentally during rehabilitation. I also hope to educate others on how the body responds to exercise so they can make healthier, more confident decisions. In the future, I plan to serve my Native community through healthcare systems such as Indian Health Services, allowing me to give back to those who have supported my journey. I also hope to be a mentor and role model for younger students who may feel that higher education is out of reach.
In addition to my commitments, I volunteer at the Southern Arizona VA Medical Center, assisting in the emergency department. I transport patients to areas such as x-ray, CT scans, ultrasounds, and the laboratory, while also helping prepare rooms, organize supplies, and deliver blood samples. This experience has strengthened my ability to work in a fast-paced environment while developing responsibility, teamwork, and communication skills. I also volunteer at the Pima Animal Care Center as a dog walker and enrichment volunteer. In this role, I walk dogs to give them time outside of the kennel, help train them to become leash-trained, and provide socialization to animals experiencing stress. These experiences have taught me patience, compassion, and the importance of serving others.
I have received multiple athletic awards and maintained a 4.0 GPA my freshman year as a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Despite these achievements, I have overcome significant challenges, including experiencing domestic violence growing up. This created anxiety and emotional struggles, and for years I stayed silent to protect my family. Eventually, I found the courage to speak up, which led to the abuser being removed from my life. Although healing took time, I was able to rebuild my confidence with the support of my family and available resources. Volleyball became more than just a sport—it became an outlet that helped me regain my strength and identity.
These experiences have shaped me into a stronger, more resilient person and have given me a deeper sense of empathy for others. They have also motivated me to pursue a career where I can help people through both physical and emotional challenges. Receiving this scholarship would greatly support me financially and allow me to continue pursuing my academic and athletic goals without added stress. I am truly grateful for the opportunities I have been given and am committed to making a positive impact in the lives of others.
