Jasleen Kaur

Bio

Hello! My name is Jasleen and I live in the beautiful Garden State. As a high school student, I am passionate about learning about medicine and technology. My favorite hobby is learning many languages, such as Punjabi, Spanish, Hindi, Urdu, and the Ukrainian language as well. I am passionate about photography and reading as I love to admire nature. Photos are tangible memories. The photos I capture include the environment and animals in nature as I try to advocate for fighting against global warming. Currently, I am interested in pursuing a career in technology. College would provide me with the education to cultivate my interests in advocating for justice through technology. From learning JavaScript to volunteering with humanitarian organizations, I am passionate about using my skills in technology to help people. I am also an Emergency Medical Responder for the Milton First Aid Squad. I love to volunteer and provide service to communities across the world, such as when I volunteered in Ukraine. When I volunteered in Ukraine, I fought my biggest fear of danger and distributed toys and necessities to children who were separated from their parents due to the Russo-Ukrainian War. I am applying to scholarships as these scholarships would allow me to sharpen my skills in college to make a positive impact on this world and fulfill my biggest dreams of using technology to help the world.

Taylor Swift's music, especially "Shake It Off", has helped me realize my inner strength. This song always makes me smile, even when I am having a difficult day. As Taylor Swift sings about not caring about what others say about her, I have this song, "In my mind sayin' it's gonna be alright." Often, I feel that some people talk behind my back when I am at my best. However, "Shake It Off" reminds me to not worry about them and focus on my future. "Shake It Off" is my favorite song because it reminds me to have a lighter approach to problems in life. From preparing to take tests to writing essays, Taylor Swift's song "Shake It Off" helps me through my stress too. I resonated with "Shake It Off" because I was bullied for being passionate about learning. People in my school called me "nerd", "encyclopedia", or even "Google" because I asked questions in class. When I first heard about these new names, I was disappointed. I was disheartened by the words of strangers because they did not accept me for being myself. One day, I came back from school to my house in tears. I put on my headphones and listened to my Swift playlist. The first song that I listened to was, "Shake It Off." This song made me wipe my tears and dance because the lyrics and beats of this song made me feel that everyone faces those days when people are mean. However, it is important to laugh off the negativity. As Taylor Swift sings, "And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate." I realized that there are people in the world that will despise a person for the person just being themselves. Taylor Swift's song helped me understand that it is important to have a good sense of humor when facing these problems. When I am nervous about a test or making a speech, I listen to "Shake It Off." This song allows me to shake off my nerves before I take tests or write a speech about humanity. I am passionate about using my voice to help people around the world. Taylor Swift's song inspires me to continue to use my voice to inspire others to see humanity. "Shake It Off" inspires me because I believe that Taylor Swift's song has helped millions of others to cope with false rumors and gossip spread about them. This song reminds me that there are people who are not kind to others. Therefore, I am inspired by "Shake It Off" to continue public speaking to encourage people to act with humanity. Taylor Swift's song "Shake It Off" is my favorite song from her '1989' album because the strong lyrics encourage me to smile on bad days and keep moving forward. When people give me those horrible nicknames at school, I just smile and move on with maturity. I love dancing to "Shake It Off" as this song is my inspiration to continue public speaking. With the scholarship money, I would be able to continue my passion for using my voice to encourage people to act with compassion. "Shake It Off" reminds me of the importance of kindness in today's world and this scholarship money would allow me to spread the word of selflessness being essential.
