Bio

For years I have tried to figure out what suits my life. What really makes me feel free? What do I enjoy most besides being a mother? At the age of 34 and a Single Black mother of 6 children, I have grew an interest in the Beauty Industry. Which is why last October in 2023 I decide to return to school as a cosmetology student at California Barbering and Cosmetology college with a graduation date of September 27,2024. Main interest are cutting hair. Coloring hair makes me feel like I’m painting. Let’s not forget about those facials and different skin treatments taken on skin journeys. The overall relaxation feeling I get when it comes to the beauty industry.

As a single black mother living in a low-income household, life can be a constant struggle. Raising children isn’t as easy as it seem. Sometimes you have to make a way when there is no way. Now at the age of 34 years young I have returned to school planned on becoming a hairstylist and obtaining my cosmetology license. I was in search of finding away to teach my children how to find a career that fits and can have fun at the same time. Not knowing all the opportunities that came with being a cosmetologist. Once in school I realized that becoming a cosmetologist and an Esthetician will fit our lives perfectly. Despite the obstacles, I'm determined to create a better life for my children. Raising my children alone means shouldering all responsibilities, from cooking and cleaning to teaching and mentoring. But amidst the chaos, I've discovered my passion for cosmetology. I love transforming people's lives through beauty and confidence. The relaxation and freedom of being yourself. This industry offers me creativity, empathy, and entrepreneurship – qualities that make me a better mother and role model. At first I had no sense of direction, wan’t sure of a permanent profession/career until starting cosmetology school. Growing up in poverty, I know first hand the limitations it imposes. But I refuse to let it define me. Just making end meet was a struggle, not being able to afford child care was a major set back. When you have kids you can not just drop them off to anyone proper child facilities was a major. There are times when i would need to be in two places at once not sure I was able to accomplish this but I did it. Not having the help to focus on what I wanted in life, I was just thinking of how to be the best mother I could be. Now, by succeeding in cosmetology, I'll shatter those limitations, providing for my children's needs, inspiring them to chase their own dreams, and giving back to our community. I having to lead by example and complete my dreams and opening my spa/salon. One difference I will be able to say is I showed my children how to become and self sufficient entrepreneur and give back to the community that we came from. After I working a 9 to 5 job to make ends meet just to survive and being shot on the job, in the face. I had a life changing experience. I struggle with anxiety, paranoid of my surrounding. So to getting shot at work, left me like I am fighting a losing battled and realized the only way to control my future outcome is for me to take a stand. This scholarship would help me overcome financial barriers, allowing me to focus on my studies and gain the skills necessary to excel in cosmetology. Also peruse an esthetic license, yes I will be dual licensed. I'm eager to learn from experienced instructors, build a network of peers, and gain hands-on experience in the field. In cosmetology, I see a future filled with possibilities – a better life for my children, financial stability, and personal fulfillment. This grant will not just provide me with a solid future but it will also help me provide generational success to my children, breaking the cycle of property. We deserve a brighter tomorrow, a better future. I will be able to provide for them. I'm ready to put in the work and make the most of this opportunity. Thank you of considering my application.
