God Said It I'm a wife and a mother of four kids ages 10, 5, 4, and 7 months. I'm also a full-time student. Grandma said it best, “The best thing you can do is get your education. That way, no one can ever take that away from you.” I knew I was going to be a nurse when God said it. I was working in a well-known call center. I no longer felt challenged in my current position. As for my working goals, I either “met expectations” or “exceeded expectations.” I knew I had come to a crossroads when a supervisor position came open. I prayed and said, God, if this job is for me, I pray that you grant it. If it's not for me, I will trust you and your will, and I won't even be upset if I do not receive the position. I know that you have more in store for me. On the day of my interview, I dressed for success for my first managerial interview. However, once I got to the end of the interview, my nerves began to take hold of me, and I started to sweat bullets. In hindsight, after all, I got this: “We regret to inform you that you were not selected, and we've decided to move forward with other candidates.” So, I sought God after the disheartening news. Consequently, Mom always would go on about nursing school and learning about the positions of other roles in my job, stating I could become a licensed vocational nurse and work with the prescription team. I decided that this may be an opportunity to apply to nursing school. God had me apply to nursing school. So, I researched nursing programs, local nursing schools, and their requirements. Once I applied, God showed me a vision approximately three months earlier. I got accepted into the nursing program! As soon as May or June rolled around, I received notification I had met all the qualifications and was able to start nursing school. Mom and I jumped for joy when we received the news. At that point, I had no idea that life would change forever! I knew the moment God gave me nursing. It was my purpose. Now, I've been saving lives, healing others, and providing compassionate care. I've been a nurse for approximately three years now. I'm currently finishing up my bachelor's degree in nursing and need a financial blessing so I can graduate in March 2024. I plan to become an intensive care unit nurse and help those needing critical care.

COVID-19 Despite being diagnosed with COVID-19 my time in quarantine has taught me a lot. It helped slow things down. We live day in and day out working and if you are a parent taking kids to school and coming home later to prepare dinner and get ready for the next day it becomes your daily routine. However, despite the challenges my family and I face we are overcomers, and through Jesus Christ, I am fully committed and I'm encouraged to value everything that I have and my family has. I don't take anything for granted. Additionally, while in isolation it has given me the much-needed time to care for myself and my family which is so easy to lose. If you let this world consume you, you could get lost. I'm so grateful to have a loving husband and family to come home to and it's such an honor to be loved by those with who God surrounds you. In short, there's nothing more that I could've asked for than this. Life, love, and not sleeping in a grave somewhere. To just have life is a blessing and God is great at giving new life. Some people have died from COVID-19 and for a little while, we lived in fear. But to actually have been exposed to it God has given us hope and that we no longer have to live in that fear of the unknown but live with hope and prosperity of life in the midst of this pandemic. I will forever be grateful for even the small and big things in life.

Nursing I enjoy the selfless act of helping others through my career in nursing. Many don't realize the long hours without breaks or how many patients you have on a unit. All they see or think that nurses when they are sitting or trying to rest their feet they are still charting and notating everything regarding a patient changing condition. Likewise, as a nurse, you are responsible for every patient, and when it's time to give medications or do blood sugar checks you are racing against the clock to get it all done before time is up. No one likes getting their medicine or insulin for that matter too late. This is also why time is of the essence. In short, nursing can be very demanding but so much more rewarding especially when you watch a patient go from a critical condition to a more stable condition or a patient in rehab maybe come in from a stroke to regain some of their speech and learn to walk again.

I have been a customer service representative for as long as I can remember and now I am a Licensed Vocational Nurse. As I've grown wiser and have learned from my mistakes, the time is now to further my nursing dreams. I've never really been inspired by many, but watching my mother come from a Certified Nursing Assistant into becoming a Nurse Practitioner has encouraged me substantially. She faced challenges, fought uphill battles, have had her career be placed on the line, and amid it all she still overcame the challenges she faced. For example, she has put others before herself and continued working through the COVID-19 pandemic. After giving much thought about my own path this has aspired me to be just like her. As a high-risk patient herself with underlying medical conditions, she has not given up on her calling as a nurse. This proves to me I can go to school and become just as courageous, brave, and intelligent as the woman I've looked up to. Her testimony alone is valid proof that I can achieve my dreams as well.

Sculpt Me From being a dreamer, a visionary, to an ordinary girl. I’ve always been passionate about art, dance, and culture. Although, I love all forms of dance I’ve always been a classic girl who loved ballet. From the dance moves to the poses, and how the body transforms. The complexity of ballet is such a lovely and elegant dance that apparently takes place on the tippy toes of the dancer. As a child, I’ve always aspired to be a ballerina, but the opportunity never presented itself. However, I rediscovered my passion for this form of dance when it emerged again, and it gave me liberty. I felt like a dove soaring and on cloud nine when I got the opportunity to take up art class in college. The class was a requirement since I was an art major at the time. It entailed sculpting. Once I began the class, I learned how to put my hands to work. I made some awesome sculptures and the drawings I created were brought to life in the materials I used. I ended up making some magnificent and magical things. One of the materials I used was metal. I had created a self-portrait out of pure metal. It was a masterpiece. I had made a ballerina! She had style and poise and could hold a stance like no other. She was well rounded geometrically structured. She was so intricate and well put together that during different seasons held up as resilient as I am. I have never enjoyed an assignment as much as that one from beginning to end. What was surprising to some is that I had never taken a single ballet class or participated in any form of ballet and that masterpiece turned out to be exactly a compliment to myself.

My fiancée and I decided to start a life-long commitment together. However, before attending pre-marital counseling we prayed that our every need be met. Then God said yes by answering every prayer. Some of the things that were met were free childcare while we attended all the sessions, free financial counseling, a discount off our marriage license for finishing the pre-marital counseling sessions, and a free ceremony and our pastor who led the pre-marital counseling class married us for free. Everything was donated or paid for from both our families. All we purchased were our attire.
