In a world filled with countless distractions and temptations, making the choice to put Jesus first can often be challenging. However, there was a moment in my life where I faced this decision head-on and chose to prioritize my faith over worldly pursuits. It was during an overnight teen event, at Pathway Preschool dedicated to worship and praise, where I made the conscious decision to forego a weekend at the beach with schoolmates in favor of dedicating my time to God and the kids I was mentoring.
As my friends excitedly made plans for three days of fun in the sun, I felt a tug at my heart urging me to prioritize my spiritual well-being and be the role model young men could look up to. Despite the allure of the beach and the fear of missing out on what promised to be a memorable time, I knew that my soul yearned for something deeper, a connection with my Creator.
Choosing to stay at Pathway was not an easy decision, but it was one that left a profound impact on me. As I immersed myself in worship and surrounded myself with fellow believers, I experienced a sense of peace and fulfillment that surpassed any earthly pleasure. In those moments of praise, I felt a closeness to God that I had never experienced before, reaffirming my faith and strengthening my resolve to put Him first in all aspects of my life.
This decision to prioritize worship over leisure activities has had a lasting impact on me. One of the young men I mentor and look to like a little brother could not have came had I not been there. His mom had to work, and because I was there, he was able to come and experience something amazing. It taught me the importance of making intentional choices that align with my values and beliefs, even when it means going against the grain or missing out on worldly pleasures. It also deepened my understanding of the true source of joy and fulfillment, which can only be found in a relationship with God.
Moving forward, I am committed to living by the principles of God and putting Him first in everything I do. This means seeking His guidance and wisdom in decision-making, prioritizing time for prayer and worship, and striving to live a life that reflects His love and grace. While there may be moments of temptation and distraction along the way, I am determined to stay true to my faith and continue to put Jesus first in all aspects of my life. For it is in Him that I find my strength, my purpose, and my ultimate fulfillment.
