Hello! Welcome to my bold profile, my name is Janyiah Day. My career goal is a combination of becoming a chef/baker making a variety of creative desserts and a Character Designer/Storyboard Artist/Animator creating animation series & movies. In school, I make sure I work hard every single day to make sure I gain the opportunity that education offers me. However, I've always worked the hardest and gained the best results whenever art or baking is involved. I've been baking for almost 9 years and drawing for 5. I have always loved expressing my creativity through art to the point where I'm actually creating my own characters for an animation series I've been working on. Outside of school, I have my own baking business, Bubbles' Sweet Treats. In my free time, I love to draw, listen to music, watch videos/movies/series, and read. My favorite reading genres are fantasy, fan-fiction, fiction, alternate universe(AU), action, romance, and adventure. I'm currently looking for art schools that provide programs such as Animation, Graphic Design, and Illustration. Not only that, I'm also looking for culinary schools to get a degree in both culinary arts and baking & pastry arts. Scholarships are very extremely important to me to finance my education and achieve my dreams.

Unlike most people during their childhood, I didn’t grow up on cartoons like Gravity Falls or Steven Universe. I actually used to watch different shows on Food Network and Animal Planet. A few of the shows I have a strong memory of watching constantly were “Kids Baking Championship”, “Cake Boss”, “Chopped Junior”, and “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives”. I had already taken a liking to baking which was mostly from my love for different types of foods and the process that goes into making it. Watching those shows, seeing how people who were either older, younger, or the same age as me around that time creating amazing desserts/dishes that others could enjoy basically solidified my dream of becoming a baker and a chef. Fortunately, my parents were and still are very supportive to the point they gave me a lot of material that would allow my passion to grow such as a stand mixer & different recipe books. In fact, it resulted in me being almost completely self taught. However, there are things that I wanted to learn directly from professionals, so I made the decision in my sophomore year of high school that I would pursue a degree in baking & pastry arts.
I also realized at a young age that I am a very artsy and creative person. I would sometimes spend hours either replicating or creating a piece of artwork in a sketchbook my parents got for me and each of my siblings (as a way to get us to put the tablets down). As I got older, I took a heavy interest in art related activities such as animation, illustration, and graphic design. Over time, I started to unconsciously imagine different designs for desserts I wanted to decorate and adding different creative liberties into my desserts. With that in mind, I started my own baking business, Bubbles’ Sweet Treats, where I utilize my artist abilities to create unique and creative desserts. Not only that, my products will also accommodate those with dietary restrictions such as allergies/intolerances, offer different cultural desserts, and use high quality ingredients. Becoming an entrepreneur in the field of culinary/baking & pastry arts has always been a goal life for me. However, it wasn't the only goal in my career life.
While searching for sources that would help expand my skill sets, I noticed how there were very few schools for baking or cooking in the general area that I currently reside in or areas surrounding it. Not only that, there’s been a common occurrence of teenagers not having a healthy method of expressing themselves. As a solution for this problem, I plan to one day have a baking school that offers baking classes such as cake decorating, pastry making, chocolate molding, ect. for youth. While people of all ages and interests can attend, my main target audience are teenagers to young adults that have interests in baking and artsy stuff. I would be able to connect better to the people I teach due to the fact that I am also like that. Teenagers usually have a hard time expressing themselves so the classes will allow them to express themselves through both baking and creative design.
While I have a long way to go before I can reach this goal, I know it’s possible to achieve and winning this scholarship would be one of the many things that will help bring me closer to it.

I've made a lot of artwork over the years that I'm proud of, but my favorite art piece that I created would have to be an album cover. For one of my last projects for my first year of taking the Animation & Digital Media pathway in high school (the first year class was called Intro to Digital Media), I had to create the front and back of an album cover in Photoshop for a music artist.
When starting the project, I made the decision to create an album cover based on my favorite band that I had just found out about, Neoni. At first, I did experience some art blocks since I wanted these to look amazing but didn't want to use any references. Luckily, I was able to complete the entire album cover, and it turned out better than I ever imagined to the point where my teacher gave me a 105% for it. While it did take me a good minute to complete the project, every minute, hour, and day spent on it was worth it.
This is one of the many art pieces that are held closest to my heart due to the fact that it actually marked when my art skills started to rapidly expand & improve and motivated me to seek a degree in art.
Thank you for taking the time to read my application!

Unlike most people during their childhood, I didn’t really grow up on cartoons like Gravity Falls or Steven Universe. I actually used to watch different shows on Food Network, Animal Planet, and the Discovery Channel, such as "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives", "Chopped", "Man v. Food", "Tanked", and "The Zoo". One of the many shows I have a strong memory of watching constantly was "Kids Baking Championship". I had already taken a liking to cooking and baking, but watching that show basically solidified my dream of becoming a baker/chef, which resulted in me being almost completely self-taught. Not only that, I grew a love for animals to the point where I would only read books about different animals and recall info about certain animals. As a result, I also wanted to one day become a zoologist or a veterinarian. However, my dream career path as a veterinarian/zoologist has significantly changed.
I've always known from a young age that I am a very artsy and creative person. I remember that I would sometimes spend hours either replicating or creating a piece of artwork in a sketchbook my parents got for me and each of my siblings (as a way to get us to put the tablets down). As I got older and my love of art got stronger, my parents started to try and get me to start using graphic software like Photoshop and Illustrator. At first, I could never get into it since I didn't really know much about that type of software and I didn't see a reason to use it. However, that completely changed in my freshman year of high school.
When choosing electives for my schedule, I decided to take the "Intro to Digital Media" class due to the fact that I was getting very tech-savvy around that time. It was also kind of because I was very curious about what the class would be like. Turns out, taking that class was one of the best decisions I've ever made. The first year of that class was teaching the students how to use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects. The second year was about character design, storyboarding, editing videos & audios together in Adobe After Effects, and animating in Adobe Animate. All while the third year of that class was about creating and animating 2d and 3d models in Blender. While there were some hiccups (the first teacher leaving and having multiple substitutes until the second teacher came and taught for the rest of the 3-year class), it still practically changed a part of my dream career path.
Today, as we speak, I'm currently working towards getting degrees and building a career in both culinary arts, baking & pastry arts, and visual arts (graphic design, illustration, fashion design, animation).

To me, design means using my creativity to create an art piece that can be inspiring, functional, beautiful, and/or entertaining. It can be an essential tool for bringing ideas, dreams, and goals to life due to its fusion of ingenuity, specialized skills, and problem-solving. For the longest time, I've always been the type of person that is always doing art-based things, ranging from replicating random art pieces to bringing my own creative ideas to life. I've already been utilizing my creativity through my passion for baking, but I discovered another passion I now have during my freshman and sophomore years of high school. It ultimately led to my decision to pursue an animation, illustration, and graphic design degree in college. Not only that, I'm currently working on my very own animation series. A design-based career will be transformational for me, as it will allow my creative strengths to be unleashed and grow into something greater.
