What truly lights my passion for baking is the endless array of delightful sweets I can create for my beloved family and friends. Each and every treat I whip up is an opportunity to showcase my creativity while spreading happiness through delicious flavors and aesthetically pleasing designs. Baking transcends mere adherence to a recipe; it embodies a thrilling adventure brimming with unexpected twists and the joy of experimenting with new ideas. Every time I step into the kitchen, a wave of excitement washes over me as I contemplate the myriads of delightful goodies I can craft—from classic, warm chocolate chip cookies to extravagant layer cakes and intricate, delicate pastries that look almost too good to eat. Moreover, I find the science behind baking to be incredibly fascinating! Delving into the chemical reactions that unfold when specific ingredients are combined makes the entire process even more enjoyable. For instance, understanding how baking soda and baking powder function to ensure my cakes rise perfectly is just amazing! Grasping the significance of temperature and timing can transform a dry, hard cake into a wonderfully soft, fluffy masterpiece. This scientific aspect of baking elevates it to a unique art form, where precision harmonizes with creativity in the most delightful ways. As I explore the different and various types of baking styles and techniques from cultures around the world, I draw inspiration from treasured recipes that have been passed down through generations. Each culture possesses a distinctive approach to crafting sweets, whether it’s the rich, buttery French pastries that melt in your mouth or the exotic and spicy desserts hailing from the Middle East. I relish the opportunity to fuse these diverse culinary traditions with my own unique flair, resulting in something fresh, innovative, and truly exciting. Baking also serves as a very wonderful way for me to connect with my family on a deeper level. Witnessing their joyful expressions when they taste something I've lovingly prepared is, without a doubt, the most rewarding aspect of this journey! Whether I'm crafting a special birthday cake, baking festive holiday cookies, or simply whipping up a casual afternoon treat, these shared experiences create cherished memories that enhance my love for baking even more. The kitchen transforms into a warm and inviting space filled with laughter and love, allowing me to bring joy to those I hold dear through the simple yet profound act of making sweet treats.

I have Neurofibromatosis (NF), a genetic condition with which I was born. Living with NF has presented many challenges, especially during my school years. Because of my condition, I faced a lot of difficulties that impacted my overall learning experience and learning performance. As a result, I required a lot of accommodations throughout my education to help me succeed and reach my full potential. For instance, one of the accommodations I received was extended time for tests and assignments. This additional time allowed me to manage my workload more better for me and reduce the stress that often accompanied assessments and deadlines. Even with these challenges, I have learned to adapt and discover ways to thrive in my educational environment. I am very grateful for the support I’ve received from teachers, classmates, and my family. Their encouragement and understanding made a difference in my life. With having this I wanted to pursue my education in culinary arts. Because I wanted to know more then from what I had learned from a few family members. So I had entered the culinary arts 2 year program at Hawaii Community College. I had my ups and downs in the program, but I have pushed my way through the lows a made it to my second year of culinary. After I completed high school and transitioned to culinary in community college, I learned that I have a disease called “Moyamoya.” Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a rare, chronic, and progressive disorder that affects the brain's blood vessels. The name comes from Japanese and translates to "puff of smoke," aptly describing the tangled appearance of tiny blood vessels that form to compensate for blocked arteries at the base of the brain. Its symptoms are quite serious, as MMD narrows or blocks the internal carotid arteries, significantly reducing blood flow and oxygen to the brain, which can lead to severe complications over time. The way I discovered this condition was during a routine yearly MRI check-up that I undergo to monitor my health. The day after the MRI, my mom received a call from the doctors with the concerning news about my diagnosis. It’s an incurable disease, and I am now in the process of managing it. I have already undergone my first surgery out of many that may be required in the future, which was performed on the left side of my brain. This journey has been challenging, but I remain determined and hopeful for what lies ahead, constantly seeking knowledge about my condition and exploring treatment options to improve my quality of life.

I chose to study culinary arts because I have always had a deep passion for cooking and an unwavering love for creating delicious food that brings people together in joyous moments. From a young age, I found immense joy in the kitchen, experimenting with various ingredients and flavors, and discovering how the right combination could elevate a simple meal into a memorable experience. The kitchen has always felt like a magical place to me, where creativity knows no bounds and where I can express myself through the art of cooking. My ultimate dream is to become a chef and, one day, open my own restaurant—a space where I can share my favorite recipes with others, while also having the freedom to innovate and create new dishes that everyone will enjoy. I envision my restaurant as more than just a place to eat; I want it to be a gathering spot for friends and families, a space filled with laughter, good conversation, and, of course, exceptional food. I believe that food has a unique ability to bring people together, to foster connections, and to create lasting memories. I want to create an inviting atmosphere where guests can feel at home, celebrate special occasions, or simply enjoy a casual meal with loved ones. To achieve this vision, I know I need to acquire a comprehensive set of culinary skills and knowledge. I am committed to learning everything I can about various cooking techniques, flavor profiles, and presentation styles. I want to understand the science behind cooking and how different ingredients interact, as well as the importance of sourcing fresh, local produce. Moreover, I am eager to explore the rich history and cultural significance of different cuisines from around the world. By immersing myself in the culinary arts, I aim to develop my own unique cooking style that reflects my personality while also appealing to a diverse audience. Ultimately, my goal is to make people happy with my cooking, creating dishes that not only satisfy the appetite but also touch the heart. I believe that food has a unique power to bring people together, to create lasting memories, and to evoke emotions that can transcend the ordinary. Each meal I prepare is crafted with love and attention, aiming to evoke warmth and joy in those who experience it. I strive to infuse my creations with flavors that tell a story and inspire conversation, transforming simple ingredients into something truly special. It is my hope that, through my culinary efforts, I can create moments of happiness and connection, ensuring that everyone leaves the table not only full but also fulfilled in spirit.

Where my love for culinary arts came from mostly from my family, particularly my dad. I grew up helping my dad cook the food we prepared for our home church, for home, and occasionally for catering events. Now, I am learning more about culinary arts through the culinary program at Hawaii Community College. My goal is to grasp the experiences and education I gain to make a positive impact on the world. I aim to use the culinary skills I've developed through hard work and perseverance to create dishes that not only satisfy the palate but also tell a story. By creating dishes that narrate stories, I embrace and engage with the community while supporting social justice, hoping to leave a lasting impression. I believe that food has the positive ability to unite, educate, and inspire. Through these efforts, I strive to cultivate a more equitable and compassionate world, one dish at a time. By focusing on the principles of inclusivity and diversity in food preparation and sharing, I aim to create an environment where everyone feels valued and recognized for their special offerings, celebrating their unique contributions to the culinary landscape. To foster a sense of belonging and appreciation, I hope to encourage collaboration and creativity among all participants. Together, we can elevate our culinary experiences and ensure that every voice is heard, leading to an enriched atmosphere where diverse talents can shine and grow. By creating an environment where every voice is valued and heard, we open up the opportunity for a multitude of perspectives to contribute to the culinary landscape.
