Being a first-generation student of immigrant parents has inspired me to continue pursuing my education. My mother didn't get an education past 6th grade to help my grandmother with the small farm they had. My father was able to go to high school when he moved to the United States but couldn't graduate due to the language barrier. Even when my parents couldn't get the best education, or didn't have the best income, they always made sure to let us know that education was something that should be one of our top priorities. It was hard at times not having support in knowing what to do with certain things in school, but I was always encouraged by them to follow my dreams and always aim high. Growing up, I've always known that I wanted to pursue a career in the health industry. After graduating high school, I knew that was something I still wanted to pursue but was unsure where to start and what I wanted to do. I had many opportunities to speak with health care professionals and hear about their experiences. I realized that nurses do so much in the health care industry. They are the backbone and the front lines of it all. That is a dream of mine. I want to be able to make a difference in the world. Nurses work hard caring for patients' emotional and physical well-being. They are the health care professionals that people see the most and through personal experience, I've seen how they strive each day to help anyone make their trip to the doctor's office a little better. With the high demand right now, I am beyond excited to be able to support the healthcare industry by becoming a nurse. After nursing, I intend to continue school for a couple more years to become a nurse anesthetist. I know that by doing so, I will continue my education even further. I will have the opportunity to work hand in hand with surgeons and many other doctors. Being a long-term dream, I will experience being in a sugical room. I am determined. I know that the studies will be difficult; having to memorize so much, know what to do in almost every emergency, all the exams, ect. My parents went through so much to give me the opportunity to be able to accomplish any goal I set my heart to. They gave up many of their freedoms so that I could have mine. I know I can do it! It won't be easy but, like my mother always says, "It will all be worth it".
