From an early age, I discovered my passion for helping others. Whether babysitting my siblings, mentoring younger dancers, or volunteering in my community, I’ve always found joy in serving those around me. Dance, in particular, has become more than an art form, it’s a way to inspire, teach, and uplift through faith and creativity. At my church, I choreograph and lead youth ministries, using movement to bring people together.
Beyond church, I’ve embraced leadership through the Teen Leaders Club at the Victory YMCA, where I helped with food drives, summer camps, and family events. At Hampton High School, I serve as Public Affairs Officer for the Junior Class, cheer on the school team, and participate in numerous community outreach events. These roles have shaped me into a leader who values teamwork, empathy, and service.
My goal is to continue growing as a servant leader who makes a lasting impact through education, faith, and community involvement. I believe I am a strong candidate for this scholarship because I bring resilience, compassion, and dedication, qualities that drive me to overcome challenges and help others succeed alongside me.

Proverbs 3:27 Scholarship
I have always been someone who finds joy in helping others and contributing to my community. From a young age, I learned the importance of responsibility, compassion, and service. These values have guided many of the activities and leadership roles I have taken on throughout my life, and they continue to shape the goals I have for my future.
Some of my earliest experiences with service began within my own family. When I was younger, I often helped care for my younger siblings so my mother could rest or focus on other responsibilities. These small acts of support taught me the importance of being dependable and considerate of the needs of others. As I grew older, my desire to serve expanded beyond my family and into my church, school, and community.
At Peters Ville Baptist Church, I helped clean up after dance rehearsals and served as a junior leader for younger dancers. In this role, I encouraged younger students and helped them develop confidence while learning choreography. Later, at Zion Prospect Baptist Church, I began choreographing and teaching dance within the youth ministry. Teaching dance allowed me to combine creativity with leadership while creating a supportive environment where young people could express themselves and grow.
I have also served my community through the Teen Leaders Club at the Victory YMCA in Yorktown, Virginia. Through this program, I helped supervise children in child watch, organized games for the annual Trunk or Treat event, participated in food drives, and assisted with summer camp programs. These experiences helped me understand the value of teamwork and showed me how small acts of service can have a meaningful impact on others.
At Hampton High School, I continue to contribute to my community through leadership and school involvement. I have been a member of the cheerleading team since my freshman year, which has allowed me to participate in community events that bring people together and promote school spirit. I also serve as the Public Affairs Officer for the Junior Class within the Student Government Association, where I help promote school events and encourage student engagement.
In the future, I plan to pursue a degree in biomedical engineering. I am interested in combining science and innovation to help improve healthcare and develop technologies that can positively impact people’s lives. My goal is to use my education to contribute to solutions that improve patient care and expand access to important medical advancements.
If I were awarded this scholarship, it would greatly support my ability to focus on my education and future career goals. The scholarship would help reduce the financial burden of college expenses such as tuition, books, and academic resources. This support would allow me to dedicate more time to my studies, participate in research and leadership opportunities, and continue serving my community while pursuing my degree.
I am committed to using my education, leadership experiences, and passion for service to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. This scholarship would not only support my academic journey but also help me continue working toward my goal of creating positive change in my community and beyond.
Chris Jones Innovator Award
Throughout my life, I have tried to make a positive impact on my community by helping others, mentoring younger students, and contributing to organizations that bring people together. Whether through my church, school, or community programs, I have learned that meaningful change often begins with small acts of service and leadership.
One of the first ways I helped my community was through my involvement in church activities. At Peters Ville Baptist Church, I regularly helped clean up after dance rehearsals and served as a junior leader for younger dancers. In this role, I encouraged younger students and helped them learn choreography while building their confidence. Later, at Zion Prospect Baptist Church, I expanded my role by choreographing and teaching dance within the youth ministry. Teaching dance allowed me to create a positive environment where young people could express themselves, build self-esteem, and learn the importance of teamwork.

These experiences taught me that community service is most effective when people work together to support one another.
At Hampton High School, I have continued to take action to support my school community. As a member of the cheerleading team since freshman year, I have participated in events that help bring people together and build school spirit. These include performing at a health and wellness event, participating in a spirit walk to honor a fallen student, welcoming students with special needs, and taking part in school celebrations that promote unity and positivity.
In addition, I serve as the Public Affairs Officer for the Junior Class within the Student Government Association. In this role, I help promote school events, manage our class Instagram page, and support activities that strengthen engagement among students. One of the personal achievements I am most proud of is growing into a confident leader through dance and service. What began as a passion for movement has developed into an opportunity for me to mentor others, uplift my community, and discover my own strength. Through these experiences, I have learned that true achievement is not only about personal success, but also about the positive impact you have on others.
My journey began with small acts of responsibility and service. Even as a child, I enjoyed helping others. When I was seven years old, my mother had recently given birth to my baby brother while also caring for my younger sister. I often volunteered to babysit them so my mother could rest or take care of important responsibilities. Although it may have seemed like a small act, those moments taught me the value of being dependable and supportive at a young age.
As I grew older, I began to take on greater leadership roles, especially through dance. At Peters Ville Baptist Church, I helped clean up after dance rehearsals and eventually became a junior leader, encouraging younger dancers and helping them develop confidence in themselves. Later, at Zion Prospect Baptist Church, I began choreographing and teaching dance within the youth ministry. Being trusted to guide others and create choreography was a moment that made me realize how much I had grown. Teaching dance allowed me to use my creativity while also helping others feel confident and empowered.
This achievement has had a meaningful impact on my life because it helped me overcome personal challenges. There was a time when I struggled with self-confidence and often felt discouraged by criticism about my height, appearance, or abilities. I also struggled academically in math and doubted my potential. However, through perseverance and support from mentors and teachers, I began to see my challenges as opportunities for growth. Today, I proudly hold the “Most Engaged Student” award in math, something I once believed would never be possible.
Learning to overcome these obstacles helped me develop resilience, self-acceptance, and empathy for others. I now understand that growth often comes from difficult moments. Instead of allowing criticism to define me, I have learned to listen, reflect, and improve.
This achievement has shaped the person I am today. It has taught me that leadership means encouraging others, lifting people up, and being willing to grow from challenges. I am proud of the confidence and determination I have developed, and I carry these lessons with me in every area of my life.
Most importantly, this experience has shown me that personal success is most meaningful when it helps inspire and support others. As I continue my journey through college and beyond, I hope to keep using my leadership, empathy, and passion for service to positively impact the people and communities around me.

The arts, particularly dance, have played a powerful role in shaping who I am. What began as a passion has grown into a meaningful way for me to express myself, connect with others, and serve my community. Through dance, I have learned discipline, leadership, and the importance of using creativity to uplift others. The arts have not only helped me grow personally, but they have also given me a way to positively impact the people around me.
Some of my earliest experiences with service and leadership were connected to dance. At Peters Ville Baptist Church, I helped clean up after rehearsals and eventually served as a junior leader for younger dancers. These moments taught me that the arts are not only about performance, but also about teamwork, responsibility, and mentorship. Watching younger dancers gain confidence and joy through movement showed me how powerful the arts can be in shaping someone’s self-esteem and sense of belonging.
At Zion Prospect Baptist Church, I have had the opportunity to further develop this passion by choreographing and teaching dance within the youth ministry. Dance has become a way for me to help others express their faith and emotions through movement. Teaching choreography requires patience, creativity, and leadership, and it has helped me realize that the arts can be a powerful tool for encouragement and community building. Seeing others grow in confidence and find their voice through dance has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.
My involvement in the arts has also extended into my school and community. As a member of the Hampton High School cheerleading team since my freshman year, I have participated in performances and events that bring people together and build school spirit. Whether performing at a health and wellness event at the Hampton Convention Center or participating in school celebrations and community gatherings, I have seen how performance can unite people and create positive energy within a community. These experiences have strengthened my belief that the arts have the power to inspire, uplift, and connect people from different backgrounds.
Beyond performance, the arts have helped me grow personally. There was a time when I struggled with self-confidence and was sensitive to criticism about my height, appearance, or abilities. Dance helped me develop confidence, resilience, and self-acceptance. Through dedication and perseverance, I learned to focus on improvement rather than perfection. The discipline I developed through dance has carried over into other areas of my life, including my academics.
In college, I plan to continue participating in the arts through dance teams, student organizations, and campus performances. I hope to collaborate with other artists, explore different styles of dance, and continue using my talents to encourage and inspire others. I am especially interested in mentoring younger students and helping create spaces where people feel comfortable expressing themselves creatively.
I believe I should be awarded this scholarship because the arts are not simply an activity in my life—they are a meaningful part of who I am. I am committed to using my passion for dance to serve others, build community, and inspire confidence in those around me. This scholarship would allow me to continue developing my artistic abilities while also expanding the ways I can positively impact others through the arts.
The arts have shaped my leadership, strengthened my character, and given me a voice. As I continue my education, I am excited to grow both as an artist and as a leader who uses creativity to uplift and empower others.
