I’ve chosen forensic science as my field of interest because it combines my love for problem-solving with a desire to make a meaningful impact. I’ve always been fascinated by the power of science to uncover hidden details and provide answers to complex questions. In forensic science, each piece of evidence tells a story, and the role of a forensic scientist is to piece these stories together in a way that supports justice and truth. This combination of intellectual challenge and purpose is what makes the field so compelling to me.
One of the main reasons I’m passionate about forensic science is the potential it holds to help individuals and families find closure. The process of analyzing evidence and providing crucial information to solve cases has a direct impact on people’s lives, offering clarity and comfort to those who are affected by crime. My goal is to contribute to this process by working in a forensic crime lab, where I can use my skills to provide accurate and reliable results that support the justice system. I want to be a part of a field that empowers communities by bringing truth to light, helping to create a safer and more just society.
There are also personal reasons that drive me toward this career path. My family has always valued hard work, integrity, and service to others. As a first-generation immigrant, I have seen the sacrifices my parents made to provide me with opportunities, and I want my career to reflect the values they instilled in me. Forensic science aligns with these values because it requires a strong commitment to accuracy, ethics, and service. The idea that my work could help families find answers in difficult times and contribute to the greater good deeply resonates with me and motivates me to pursue this path wholeheartedly.
Another personal reason that drives me is the loss of my grandfather, who taught me the importance of empathy and resilience. His memory serves as a reminder to use my skills to help others, especially in moments of need. This experience gave me a profound appreciation for closure and understanding, two things that forensic science can help provide. In my future career, I hope to embody the empathy and dedication he showed in his life, using my work to support others in moments of hardship.
Ultimately, my goal is to make a meaningful difference by using science to reveal the truth. I believe that forensic science allows me to combine my strengths, values, and passions in a way that has a real impact on society. By dedicating myself to this field, I can contribute to a legacy of service, honor the sacrifices my family made, and create a career that reflects my commitment to justice and empathy. I am excited to pursue this path and look forward to making a positive difference, one case at a time.

Growing up, he would often share stories from his life that taught me about resilience, kindness, and the importance of family. He was one of my biggest supporters, encouraging me to pursue my goals and work hard, regardless of the challenges I might face. Losing him was a deeply painful experience, but it also became a turning point in my life, shaping who I am today in significant ways.
My grandfather’s passing was my first experience with profound loss, and it forced me to confront emotions I hadn’t yet encountered grief, anger, and the overwhelming sadness of knowing I wouldn’t see him again. This loss brought me to a place of deep reflection. In the days and weeks following his death, I realized that although he was no longer physically present, the values he had taught me remained with me. His influence became a guiding light, inspiring me to live in a way that would make him proud and carry forward the lessons he instilled in me.
This experience also helped me understand the value of resilience. I learned that even in the midst of loss, there is a way to move forward by honoring the memory of those who have impacted our lives. My grandfather’s passing gave me a new perspective on the importance of empathy and kindness, values that I try to embody every day. His memory motivates me to support and uplift others, just as he did for me. It also strengthened my desire to pursue a career where I can make a meaningful difference, so that my actions reflect the compassion he showed to others.

A time when I leaned heavily on my faith was during one of the most challenging experiences of my life: the loss of a loved one. When I first received the news, it felt like the ground had disappeared beneath me. I was overwhelmed by a mix of emotions grief, anger, confusion, and a sense of helplessness. The intense feelings were unlike anything I had experienced before, and I found it difficult to understand or express them. In the midst of this turmoil, I felt an overwhelming need for something to guide me through this loss. I turned to my faith.
Growing up, faith had always been a quiet presence in my life, something that was there in the background but not something I thought about deeply on a daily basis. However, in this period of grief, my faith became a central part of my life. I started praying more often, spending time in quiet reflection, and seeking comfort in the teachings that had been a part of my upbringing. Faith gave me a safe place to bring my pain and confusion without fear of judgment, and I began to find solace in the idea that there was a bigger picture, even if I couldn’t understand it in that moment.
Through my faith, I was able to start processing my grief in a healthier way. I realized that my loved one’s life had a profound impact on me and that I could honor their memory by carrying forward the lessons they had taught me. My faith reminded me that love and memories live on, even if someone is no longer physically present. This understanding brought me a sense of peace and reassurance, slowly helping me move forward, one step at a time.
Leaning into my faith also taught me to trust in the healing process. Initially, I felt pressure to “move on” quickly and put on a brave face, but through faith, I learned that healing is not a straightforward journey it’s something that takes time and comes with many ups and downs. My faith reminded me to be patient with myself and to accept that my feelings of sadness were natural and valid. This perspective made it easier to forgive myself on days when I struggled more than others and allowed me to find strength in my vulnerability.
Another important lesson I gained from this experience was the resilience that faith can bring. It became clear to me that faith isn’t just about finding comfort in good times; it’s about having something to lean on in times of difficulty. I found that my faith empowered me, helping me turn pain into motivation to live more fully and to cherish my relationships. I realized that grief was teaching me to live with greater intention, to appreciate each moment, and to find purpose in the memories of those I’ve lost.
Looking back, I see that this experience not only strengthened my faith but also taught me how to face adversity with resilience and patience. Whenever I face challenges now, I remember the peace and strength I found through faith, and it reminds me that I am never alone in whatever I’m going through.

If I could start my own charity, I would create an organization focused on mental health support and education for teenagers and young adults, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds. Mental health is often stigmatized, and young people may not have access to the resources or support they need. My charity’s mission would be to promote mental well-being, destigmatize mental health issues, and provide accessible counseling, therapy, and mindfulness programs.
The charity would serve teenagers and young adults, especially those who feel they lack safe spaces to express themselves or who face financial barriers to accessing mental health services. Volunteers would play a vital role in offering peer support, organizing workshops, and helping to raise awareness about mental health issues within communities. Trained counselors and mental health professionals would provide guidance, while volunteers could assist by organizing local events, managing social media campaigns, and connecting with schools to set up support groups. By creating a community-based approach, I believe this charity could make a meaningful impact on mental health and foster an environment where young people feel understood and supported.
Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
My experience with mental health has profoundly shaped my goals, relationships, and understanding of the world. Navigating my own mental health challenges has taught me the importance of resilience, self-awareness, and compassion, which has influenced the way I approach every aspect of my life.
In terms of my goals, dealing with mental health has made me more focused on personal growth and well-being. I have learned that success is not just about achieving external milestones but also about maintaining balance and mental clarity. This realization has helped me set goals that prioritize my mental and emotional health alongside my academic and career ambitions. I now aim for a balanced life where I pursue my passions without neglecting self-care, and this mindset has made me more determined to succeed on my own terms, rather than just meeting societal expectations.
My relationships have also been shaped by my mental health journey. Experiencing periods of emotional struggle has deepened my empathy for others, especially those dealing with their own mental health issues. It has made me a better listener and more understanding toward friends and family. I now approach relationships with greater patience and an openness to discuss mental health openly, breaking the stigma around these conversations. This has strengthened my connections with others, as we can support each other in a more meaningful way.
Moreover, my mental health experience has expanded my understanding of the world. It has made me more aware of the complexities of human emotions and the importance of mental health in all aspects of life. I’ve learned that many people face struggles that aren’t always visible, which has taught me to be more compassionate and less judgmental. It’s also deepened my interest in mental health advocacy, as I recognize the need for better support systems and resources for people who are struggling.
Ultimately, my mental health journey has shaped me into someone who values balance, empathy, and open communication. It has made me more thoughtful in setting my goals, more intentional in my relationships, and more understanding of the diverse challenges people face in life. This experience continues to influence how I navigate the world, striving not only for success but for a life that is healthy, meaningful, and connected to others.
LeBron James Fan Scholarship
I am a fan of LeBron James not just because of his remarkable skills on the basketball court, but also because of his work ethic, leadership, and impact off the court. LeBron’s basketball abilities are undeniable—his combination of size, athleticism, basketball IQ, and versatility makes him a rare talent. He has excelled in virtually every aspect of the game, whether it’s scoring, passing, rebounding, or defending. His ability to elevate his teammates and take on different roles depending on what his team needs has always impressed me.
LeBron’s longevity is another reason why I admire him. He has been at the top of the NBA for over two decades, maintaining a level of excellence that few athletes in any sport can match. His commitment to fitness and taking care of his body shows a level of discipline and dedication that aspiring athletes can learn from. He continuously adapts his game as he ages, allowing him to stay dominant in a league that constantly evolves.
Off the court, LeBron has made an impact in ways that go far beyond basketball. He is a vocal advocate for social justice and education, using his platform to speak out on important issues. His philanthropy, particularly the opening of the I PROMISE School in his hometown of Akron, Ohio, shows his commitment to giving back and helping the next generation succeed. This makes him not only a great athlete but also a role model for many, including myself.
As for whether LeBron James is the greatest basketball player of all time (GOAT), I believe the debate is complex, but he certainly has a strong case. Many people compare LeBron to Michael Jordan, who is often considered the GOAT. Jordan’s six championships and perfect record in the NBA Finals are often cited as reasons he should hold the title. However, LeBron’s ability to succeed in different eras, with different teams, and against tough competition is equally impressive. His versatility, longevity, and ability to carry teams to the NBA Finals—reaching 10 Finals across different stages of his career—are accomplishments that set him apart.
LeBron’s all-around game also distinguishes him from other greats. While Jordan was the ultimate scorer and winner, LeBron is more of an all-purpose player. His passing ability and basketball IQ are closer to that of Magic Johnson, while his scoring ability rivals that of the best in history. LeBron doesn’t just dominate with scoring—he impacts every part of the game, often making his teammates better and filling whatever role his team needs, whether it’s a facilitator, a defender, or a scorer.
That said, I understand why some may argue that Jordan or even other players like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar or Magic Johnson could be considered the greatest. Ultimately, the GOAT conversation comes down to personal preference and how one values different aspects of the game—winning, versatility, longevity, or impact. While I wouldn’t definitively say LeBron is the GOAT, I do believe he is one of the most complete and influential players the game has ever seen, and his legacy will continue to grow long after he retires.

The passing of loved ones has been one of the most challenging experiences I’ve faced in life. The emotional toll of losing someone close is difficult to explain, but it has affected me deeply, forcing me to confront feelings I had never experienced before. When I lost my grandmother , it felt like the ground beneath me had shifted. SHe had always been my anchor, someone whose wisdom and guidance I relied on. Her death left a void in my life that I didn’t know how to fill.
The hardest part was processing the mix of emotions. Initially, I felt a lot of sadness and confusion. I didn’t know how to cope with the idea that someone who had been a constant presence in my life could suddenly be gone. Then, I was angry with the world, the circumstances, and even at myself for not spending more time with her when I had the chance. Guilt followed closely behind, making me question whether I had done enough to show her how much I cared. It was an emotional rollercoaster, and each new wave of grief brought its own challenges.
Through this experience, I learned a lot about myself. I realized that it’s okay to feel vulnerable and to not have all the answers. Before this, I thought I had to keep my emotions in check, but grief taught me that bottling things up only makes them harder to handle. I’ve learned that it’s important to allow myself the space to feel, reflect, and heal at my own pace. I also discovered a sense of resilience I didn’t know I had. As painful as loss is, it has shown me that I can endure tough times and that the pain doesn’t diminish the love I had for those I’ve lost.
Meditation and journaling have been particularly helpful in this process. I started meditating after my grandmother passed, and it became a way for me to clear my mind and sit with my feelings without judgment. It’s allowed me to be more present and less overwhelmed by my emotions. Journaling has also been a huge outlet for me. Writing about my experiences and emotions gave me a way to express things I didn’t always feel comfortable sharing with others. It’s been a way to understand my grief, document my growth, and appreciate the memories I cherish.
Despite these hardships, I’m determined to continue my education. My grandmother always emphasized the importance of learning and growing, and I want to honor her memory by pursuing my goals. College represents not only an opportunity for academic growth but also a way to continue discovering more about myself and the world around me. I’m motivated to study Forensic Science, so I can better understand the complexities of the human body and help law enforcement critically think.
The biggest influences in my life are my parents and my grandmother. My parents have always been my biggest supporters, encouraging me to aim high even when things feel impossible. My grandmother, though she's no longer with me, still inspires me to keep moving forward, no matter what life throws my way. Her teachings about resilience and kindness are things I carry with me every day, and I strive to make her proud by following the path she set before me.
In conclusion, the passing of loved ones has been an emotional journey, but it’s shaped me into someone more understanding, resilient, and motivated. Through meditation, journaling, and the support of those I love, I’m ready to take on the next chapter of my life with confidence and purpose.
