I grew up knowing the name of Jesus, but it was not until I truly needed Him that I understood what it meant to walk with the Lord. As a child raised in a Christian home, church on Sundays and prayer before meals were constants in my life. I memorized Scripture, sang in worship services, and listened to sermons about faith. Yet my relationship with Christ was, at first, inherited rather than personal. It was during seasons of doubt, stress, and uncertainty that my faith became my own.
In high school, I faced moments of anxiety and internal struggles that I did not always know how to articulate. I felt pressure to succeed academically while also navigating personal challenges. During that time, I turned more intentionally to prayer, not out of routine, but out of desperation. I remember one evening sitting alone, overwhelmed and exhausted, asking God for peace and direction. In that quiet moment, I felt a sense of calm that surpassed my circumstances. It did not mean my problems disappeared, but I knew I was not facing them alone. That was when my faith shifted from tradition to relationship. I began reading Scripture not because I was told to, but because I wanted to understand God’s character. I learned to trust Him with my fears and future.
As I continued growing spiritually, I felt called to serve others in a meaningful and compassionate way. Mental health, in particular, became close to my heart. I saw how many individuals silently struggle with anxiety, depression, and trauma, even within Christian communities where such topics are sometimes misunderstood. My faith taught me that every person is created in God’s image and deserving of dignity, care, and love. This belief fuels my desire to become a mental health nurse practitioner.
I currently attend Houston Christian University, where I am pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Nursing. My education has strengthened both my clinical skills and my spiritual foundation. At a Christ-centered institution, I am encouraged to view nursing as more than a profession; it is a calling. I am learning not only how to care for patients physically, but also how to approach them with empathy, cultural sensitivity, and integrity.
My career aspiration is to earn my Master of Science in Nursing and become a licensed mental health nurse practitioner. In this role, I hope to provide comprehensive psychiatric care, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment, while integrating compassion and faith-informed support when appropriate. My goal is to serve diverse and underserved populations, particularly individuals who may feel overlooked or stigmatized. I want to create safe spaces where patients feel heard and valued. In the future, I also hope to participate in community outreach and mental health education initiatives that reduce stigma and increase awareness within churches and local communities.
Receiving this scholarship would significantly support my academic and professional journey. Nursing school is rigorous and demanding, requiring extensive study hours, clinical rotations, and preparation for licensure exams. Financial assistance would allow me to focus more fully on my coursework and clinical training without the constant burden of financial stress. It would also help fund resources such as textbooks, exam preparation materials, and future graduate school applications. By easing financial strain, this scholarship would empower me to pursue excellence in my studies and remain fully committed to my calling.
Looking ahead, my plans include completing my bachelor’s degree, passing the NCLEX, gaining experience as a registered nurse, and then pursuing graduate education to become a mental health nurse practitioner. Throughout each step, I intend to remain grounded in my faith, seeking God’s guidance in both my personal life and professional decisions. My ultimate goal is to combine clinical expertise with Christ-centered compassion, reflecting God’s love through service.
My journey into Christianity began in childhood, but it deepened through personal trials and intentional faith. Today, my relationship with the Lord shapes every goal I pursue. This scholarship would not only invest in my education, but also in the lives of the future patients I will serve. Through faith, perseverance, and opportunity, I am committed to making a meaningful impact in mental health care and honoring God in the process.
