Bio

My name is Jamila. I've been a healthcare worker since 2010. It was rocky in the beginning. I fell into healthcare because I couldn't find a job in my field. My first job was just that, a JOB ( Just Over Broke). I disliked where and who I worked for with a passion. Going to work was miserable. In 2015, I changed jobs and that's when I found a career. I started doing Patient Access at Boston Medical Center, Boston's leading trauma hospital. It was scary. Before that, a gun shot victim was something I saw on the news only. However, after about 6 months or so, I realized I was exactly where I needed to be, helping to bring peace and healing to my community. Since beginning that chapter, I have thoroughly enjoyed my career. I have made great friends, and am so proud to call myself a healthcare worker. Now that I'm a little older, I'm looking ahead. I want to work more efficiently, make more money, have time for family and friends, and stil do exactly what I enjoy doing for work. So I am now pursuing a nursing degree. I couldn't be happier.

My name is Jamila Hudson, and I'm currently residing in Maietta GA. I'm oiginally from Boston, MA, but after so many years of snow and blizzards, I decided o head south. I'm a nursing student, and pursuing my BSN. I have been a healthcare worker for quite some time now, and I'm now looking ahead. I want to make more money and spend more time wih family and friends and less time working. However, I also want to have a bigger impact on my community, and nursing will allow me to do that. Several years ago, I pursued personal training, even though I was a full time time healthcare worker, but it was my best girlfriend Ashley, my Phoebe who said verbatum "Jam, go to nursing school. You can do it and you'd be an amazing nurse". I met Ashley when I firat started working at Boston Medical Center in 2014. We became fast friends and I always looked up to her, as a friend and as a nurse. At the time she was a nurse supervisor. Fast forward to today, I do want to be just like her, and she still keeps me motivated today. At that time I was still holding on to insecurities in subjects like math and science. In high school and college, those weren't my strongest subjects. And no other adult in my life had pushed me the way Ashley pushed me. So here I am, now a semester into my BSN. I currently hold an A avg in my class. I have science, science doesn't have me. I'm enjoying myself as well. I hope to do several things with my degree. Outside of emergency and trauma nursing, I also want to franchise my own outpatient dialysis center that not only fills doctors' orders of dialysis treatments but teaches our patients the importance of doing regular everyday things to keep their kidneys in check and why it's so important to come get dialyzed regularly and keep your appointments. As a patient access representative, quite often I find myself admitting dialysis patients for fluid overload simply because they missed their week's appointments. I'm big on educating my patients on the importance of doing these simple things. I also plan on opening an outpatient cardiac rehab for people who have suffered a cardia arrest and need outpatient rehab services. The same principals apply as far as education go, I also plan to focus on the uninsured and the underinsured.

I have been a healthcare worker since 2009/ 2010 when I completed my first undergraduate degree. I fell into the field because I was unable to find a job in my degree field, communications. At first I was working for Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. I disliked my job with a passion. I found out that administrative work wasn't for me, I was tired of being treated like an idot and undervalued. Finally after 3-4 years, I quit. Fast forward to 2014 when I changed hospitals and landed at Boston Medical Center, I found that I have a great love for emergency and trauma medicine. Even as a patient access representative we still get the adrenaline rush, that extra push to make sure we get things right, the first time around. Within my first month of working there, my dad unexpectedly ended up in my trauma room as a result of cardiac arrest. Thankfully, I wasn't on shift at the time. However, even though I'd only been there a short time, my co- workers rallied around me in a way I'd never seen before. I had support, something I hadn't had before in a work environment. As a result of my time at Boston Medical Center, my best friends are nurses, retired military, milary nurses etc. If I had to name everyone I'd be here all day. My best friends Ashley Oti and Shannan Bush have definitely inspired me and have pushed me to do more. As I'm getting a bit older, I'm looking at ways to have a greater impact in my community as well as increase my personal financial productivity and create a schedule that allows me quality days off to spend with family and friends. For me healthcare isn't just a JOB (Just Over Broke). It's a way of life. My friends and I carry ourselves differently because we have worked in environments such a Boston Med. Ford is built tough and so are we. We don't back down from problems, instead we face them head on. As I'm starting on my journey back to school, I'm remembering just how costly it can get. In my pursuit to fund my education, I stumbled across app.bold.org and came across your scholarship opportunity. I know I'm the perfect candidate to receive your scholarship because I'm willing, ready and excited to do the work. I'm actually more excited than anything. I enjoy learning and am eagerly waiting for the time when I can look myself in the mirror and say "You did it".
