John Young 'Pursue Your Passion' Scholarship
I have always wanted to pursue a field in business. The idea of being a young businesswoman has caused me to want to pursue a passion for business because the stereotypes of women not able to achieve as much due to gender has made me want to pursue this field even more. My family members have some amazing businesswomen who work in finances and accounting, and these women have demonstrated how they can continue working in a male-dominated workforce then for me it should be easier. I wish to pursue an area in business of managing finances or working in accounting, both areas are majority male dominated industries. In a male-dominated industry, I hope to create inspiration for young girls, like I was inspired by my family members to pursue the field of business. the idea of allowing younger girls to look up to me as inspiration to go into whatever desired field no matter who dominates it would make me proud of myself to know I allowed young girls to pursue where they wanted to go and not be forced or pressured by society. Personal goals I have thought about is being competitive in whichever field I wish to pursue because I will be the best at whatever I do. I think this will be reflected by the position I have in whichever company I am with. I hope to be in a good position which will be all the motivation I need for achieving where I want to go. I believe self-motivation should be ideal in this situation because how one should not be motivated by money or perks a position in their field can have, however, one should be motivated by friendly competition with their coworkers.
    Redefining Victory Scholarship
The idea of success is subjective to everyone's achievements and goals are. My succession will look different compared to someone who wants to be an anesthesiologist. However, the majority of people do have a similar look on being successful from a materialistic standpoint, and that is to have financial freedom or to be somewhat wealthy. This does not apply to how I see myself being successful because I think that pursuing business and possibly going into either marketing or accounting I do not care much about money. Some of my friends when I talk to them about college and their future lives one of the first things they mention to me is how much a job makes. My mother taught me growing up that are two different kinds of success the first one being materialistic, and the second one is the feel-good one. The materialistic one as previously said contains being able to afford most, or everything you want from an object standpoint. The feel-good one is about doing what you enjoy and not caring if there is a lot of money involved with the job. The feel-good one should involve giving back to your community in some way, even if you are not doing community service upfront, do a daily or weekly good deed to help your community. For me, succession is a balance of both materialistic and feel-good success. I hope I can be financially stable where I can enjoy activities I love, but not get caught up in the materialistic side of things. However, I do want to remember how the feel-good succession is a good mentality to have where I am not focusing on myself and motivated for selfish reasons. Succession for me would include being in a position where I could work in marketing for major sports events, or do something on the business side of sports because I enjoy sports a lot and would love to be able to continue this passion in other ways. Especially with sports behind the scenes being mostly male-dominated I would love to be a part of the group to break a bit of the stereotypes. Although I know this stereotype is changing more the industry overall is more male-dominated, and nothing is wrong with that I only hope to inspire other young girls to not shy away from the business side of sports industries because of the stereotypes. This opportunity will help me be able to afford college more easily. This is one of the many scholarships I am applying for because the cost of college is expensive, and I want to be able to set myself up for the best possible outcome regarding finances because that will be able to set me up for a decent position when coming out of college. This scholarship money will go toward tuition for my college and going to college will help me achieve getting a degree in marketing or business and a minor in accounting. This is what my success looks like and a little bit of how my journey of success will look like.
    Nyadollie Scholarship
I have been interested in business and it has always been a passion of mine. Growing up and watching my dad work in the technology industry I immediately knew I did not want to enter that field. Besides my dad, the only other full-time worker I saw was my aunt who worked in business and real estate. I always looked up to her when I was younger and considered her a big part of my life and overall very influential figure. Her efforts to strive and work to financially support herself made to work as hard as her. Business has been an overall passion, however, I know it will be a bit of a struggle because I am still struggling to figure out what exactly I wish to do in business. I plan to use the scholarship money to buy my books so I do not have to concern myself with that purchase. Or I might use it to help pay for my college because it is expensive and any amount will help put the pressure of paying my college off. I think I will go into a possible accounting or at least get a minor in accounting for my education. This is because numbers are easy for me due to having dyslexia. Anything with lots of reading becomes a bit challenging which is why accounting might be something I pursue, because it will be easier for me to comprehend the numbers. Even though accounting has a lot of numbers and some words I will still like the challenge of accounting. I wish to major in business overall, because if I am unsure of what to pick and still debating I will be able to figure out what I want to do, and I do know that I will pursue business but I am still unsure what area. With business being a broad subject there is a big genre I could submit to. Majoring in business and getting a minor in accounting I hope this plan will be able to set me up for success. I hope to make a difference because I know that business is male dominated field. While I know that women are starting to get into the business industry I do hope to go into more accounting which is much more male-dominated compared to business. I do hope to inspire others how my aunt inspired me to get into business.
Dr. G. Yvette Pegues Disability Scholarship
Growing up with a mental disability is very tricky because of how they are portrayed. Having dyslexia is very challenging in regards because of how it has gotten more common and well known it has been in the past couple of years. However, with it being more well-known then there are more misinterpretations of what dyslexia is. Dyslexia is commonly known as a processing disorder, and being able to associate letters with the correct sounds. Many people do not understand how severe dyslexia can be in regarding reading. I was unable to read until I was in third grade. This has affected me throughout my school years because I was far behind my peers making it difficult to catch up to the level they were in. When I was trying to catch up to my peers in school work and intelligence in general I did a lot of tutoring. I was tutored from third grade to eighth grade about once a week. This was very weird because I had to transition what I was learning from tutoring to what I was learning in school. This transition had become easier as I was maturing and learning in school because once I entered middle school it was easier to comprehend what was being taught in school. I was able to spend less time on school work at home, not homework but school work because I could not comprehend while at school. The topic of homework has always been a struggle for me. In high school, I average spending two to three hours a night on homework. I do not mean to spend an enormous amount of time on homework but dyslexia has affected how quickly I can do homework. I typically take the longest when doing English, which is not a surprise due to that is the area dyslexia affects the most. My weekends in the middle of the school year are taken up with doing homework. This has been the hardest for me because I am unable to go out and do activities if I want to strive in school. A lot of teachers do not understand that dyslexia is not visual and I might not be visually struggling but I still struggle in my day-to-day life. My high school teachers are not understanding because they see I am not failing the class and think that I am doing fine, however, they do not see that I spend an average of six to eight hours on the weekend. This is where the most frustration comes in because my teachers assume everything is fine, even when I talk to them repeatedly about my dyslexia and how problematic it is for me in their class. With everything I have been through as someone with a nonvisual disability, it is a hardship for me to communicate how difficult it is because the difficulty is not seen. This is very frustrating, but I have learned to accept it and move on and learn how to grow with my disability.
    LeBron James Fan Scholarship
LeBron James is one of the longest athletes to be playing in the National Basketball Association, otherwise known as the NBA. The NBA is a very competitive if not the most competitive basketball division in the world. LeBron has been playing for about twenty years in the NBA making him one of the longest athletes playing. Not only has James been playing in the NBA for several years, and stayed extremely healthy, which is one of the reasons I am a fan of because of his commitment to stay healthy not only athletically, but also from a diet perspective. LeBron has been seen taking care of himself in every aspect of life mental, physical, and spiritual. He goes above and beyond what normal athletes do, which is why he is one of the best basketball players. LeBron James, I would say is one of the best NBA players, but he might not be the best. The major debate when talking about LeBron James being the best basketball player ever is that Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan are both considered the greatest. Kobe Bryant was one of the best-established athletes known for his great work ethic and dedicating massive amount of time to shooting hoops. Michael Jordan is known for coming back and winning NBA championships making him have one of the best athletic comebacks in basketball history. To say LeBron James is the greatest basketball player of all time might not be the best wording because of the unknown future athletes. The other players in debate for this topic Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant are incredible, but it will always be in debate like if LeBron James is the greatest basketball player.
    Strong Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship
A leader can be in different positions, meaning they do not have to the be face of something, but have a positive impact and are dedicated to their work. A leader can be seen as a lot of different things. The majority of people think of the President or whoever is in charge of their country, however, everyone can be a leader in some way. I see myself as a leader on the soccer team at my high school. I know I was a leader because my position on the team was being one of the two center-back players, and they would have not started me if the coaches did not see me as a leader. The position requires good communication not only with the other center back but with the rest of the team. Another requirement is making big decisions, because of the position I play a bad decision could cost a goal, and being able to dictate what to call at the moment is important to not only yourself as a player playing, but the team as a whole. These few qualities I possess on the field demonstrate some of the qualities a leader needs. The qualities I gained from off the field that I possess is to keep a positive mindset, but realistic. Being realistic is important because knowing your limitations is important, but keeping a positive mindset is important in difficult situations. A positive mindset is important to so it motivates your team. All of these qualities from soccer and other sports have taught me how to be a good leader, but school has taught me important leadership qualities. If school has taught me one thing it is to be hardworking and be determined in what you do. A leader should always be hardworking, and school taught me to work hard to get the result you want which in school is good grades. I find getting good grades a nice reward in all the time spent studying or doing whichever task was assigned. Determination is another quality I possess because in school I always try to figure out what I need to do by myself, or in whatever way is possible. My friends see how I am determined when I talk to teachers and I go up to them after school. This is the positive influence I think I possess and demonstrate to my friends. Determination will always help me achieve what I want and get me into the right mindset. These qualities are a few of the most important qualities to possess and prove I am a leader. These qualities demonstrate how one does not have to be the face to be the leader. A leader has to be positive, and encouraging others even if you are encouraging a small group of people you can still be a leader.
    Billie Eilish Fan Scholarship
Billie Eilish's music all sounds very similar but very different simultaneous e. Her songs all have a meaning or an idea where you can interpret them differently. I adore her new album "HIT ME HARD AND SOFT" because of the variety of the songs' tones and beat. The album was a rollercoaster of emotions when listening to it. One of my favorite songs by Billie is "Blue". Whenever I do not know what to listen to "Blue" can be a go-to song due to the change in beat. Her lyrics are very easy to relate to in this song because it gives a good amount of interpretation. I enjoy how it talks about how things are supposed to be black and white but it is blue for her. This is very easy to relate to because no choice I make is black or white, and my feelings about it can be very negative about situations, and this song reflects how making choices is difficult. The next two songs I love by Billie are "Bellyache" and Chihiro". Bellyache was one of the first Billie songs I heard. The song being from about five years ago is a very good song, and how everything blends nicely together when listening to it. When I first listened to the song it was depressing, however, I listened to it again and thought it could be a happy song if listened to in a happy setting. This idea of listening to Billie's song's in a different setting or mood will reflect how you listen to them, which I enjoy how flexible each song is for interpretation. "Chihiro" was the first song I listened to on her new album and I fell in love with it because it sounded different compared to her other songs. When I was listening to this song I knew the album was going to be different and incredible. This song set the standard for her album and it did not disappoint in the slightest. All of Billie Eilish's songs are amazing but these are the three I relate to the most, for personal reasons. I connect with these songs on a better emotional level because of either a sentimental value or thoroughly enjoying the song.
    GUTS- Olivia Rodrigo Fan Scholarship
There are probably two songs I relate to on the "GUTS" album. The first one is "Get Him Back" because of how the song lyrics go it is quite relatable for most teenage girls. Even if it is not about a boy but more a friend who was taken by a significant other. These all seem very relatable for the most part, because of how easily people in our lives can change and not be around for long periods and you want them back. Olivia's more aggressive tone with the song helps signify how it is a teenager's problem and the adolescent passion behind the song. Olivia was a teenager at the time of writing this song and was directing it towards a boy, but for me, I do not see it as that but more in a friend way because friendships come and go and sometimes you want them back, this especially happens for teenage girls. When a girl is a teenager they will possibly go through a boyfriend or two, but the amount of friends a teenage girl will go through is enormous amount of friends. The next song on the "GUTS" which is very relatable is "bad idea right?" is a good song by the beat because it is another one of Olivia's more upbeat songs. I enjoy her upbeat songs because of her hardcore attitude and rough persona in her songs. Her upbeat songs remind me of rock and roll a bit, and her songs like "bad idea right?" give it a pop twist which gives a different vibe to her music compared to other artists during this age. The phrase "bad idea right?" is an adolescent phase in itself. It demonstrates how a teenager has bad ideas and always knows it is wrong. However, adolescents always know it is wrong but decide against taking the high route or making the best of decisions for themselves and others around them. All of Olivia's songs are very adolescent, however, the two above that I discussed are the ones that I relate to the most. With her upbeat songs, I relate to them most because of how pop rock is. Pop rock has a very teenage girl theme because of how sad some of her songs are, but her songs are also upbeat and quick, but with angst feelings. Overall Olivia's songs are very adolescent-like because she bases them on her own life, which results in her fanbase being teenage girls able to relate to her songs like me.
    “The Office” Obsessed! Fan Scholarship
I enjoy a lot of the characters from "The Office" because of the different sense of humor each character has. I have a more dry sense of humor, and so I find Dwight and Jim hysterical because of how they banter with each other. Their relationship of teasing and poking fun at each other is something I resonate with. However, I think how Michael's humor is funny too because of his bold and loud personality. He does not only have those characteristics but his ignorance in some situations makes his character much more comical. In the beginning of the show, Pam's humor seems more like a background character, but her character's humor and jokes get more involved as the show progresses. I think I do relate to her in a work environment and dynamics because we both work in male-dominated industries. Both of us act as more background characters, but throughout time we both show our humor and personalities. Pam and Jim later in the show get married and it is easy to see how they bounce off each other well. Their jokes and humor are not the same but similar enough to create well-thought-out jokes. This is similar to Dwight and Jim's jokes but in a different style because while those are more banter and poking fun these are more traditional laughing jokes.
    Charli XCX brat Fan Scholarship
Charli XCX is one of the most innovative singers right now because of how she is using her lyrics to express herself. My favorite song is one of her newest songs "Guess featuring Billie Eilish" because of how Charli XCX's and Billie Eilish's voices go together. Both the lyrics and tone of their voices are very in sync. Charli XCX has had many songs go viral on TikTok which means there are dances to them that are very fun because of how collaborative they are. The songs being on TikTok means I am able to find it easier and learn them quickly because of how popular and trendy they are. "Guess featuring Billie Eilish" is one of the very trendy songs I picked up from TikTok. The original version of the song is amazing. However, I throughly enjoy the one with Billie because of how their voices blend and give a great contrast. Charli's voice is soft but it hits the right notes, but Billie's voice is very hard and seems to dominate her verses more. This is not to say Charli's voice does not dominate the song, but it has a different effect and goes with the song lyrics instead of against the song. Both of the singer's voices seem to control their parts of the song, but it is just different compared to how Charli's other songs have gone.
    Sabrina Carpenter Superfan Scholarship
Sabrina Carpenter is one of the up-and-coming influential pop singers there are. Right after Covid, there were not a lot of pop singers, and to see Sabrina Carpenter come up and be an opener for Taylor Swift was very fun to see her. I grew up watching "Girl Meets World" and to see how famous she has gotten in the past couple of years is very impressive. The first song that I listened to by her was "Thumbs" and now to hear "Please Please Please" it is very impressive and inspiring how she never gave up on her musical ability. Sabrina's music has changed with her as a reflection of her growth throughout life. The music now reflecting her dating life and love life compared to her old music was more of a coming-of-age music genre. Her style of performing is very entertaining. How she performs her songs with her exaggerated dance moves is very enjoyable to watch. Her songs being viral on Tik Tok makes them more fun to listen to because the lyrics are catchy with a good beat making for fun carpool songs. The songs are very relatable for teenage girls. This makes them easier to sing with friends and very enjoyable to listen to on car rides. Without Sabrina's career taking off we would have not gotten "Expresso" or "Please Please Please".
    Team USA Fan Scholarship
Noah Lyles was standing on business when he won the hundred meters in the Olympics. Previously he made a statement about the NBA championship a year before the Olympics saying "World champions of what?" Lyles was mocked and criticized for his words on social media. However, it is good to see how Lyles can prove the haters wrong when winning gold in his event and bronze in the two-hundred-meter race. It came out afterward he was diagnosed with Covid when he ran the two hundred. I enjoyed seeing him race because of how close the split was to silver and gold for the one-hundred-meters. The difference in time between gold and silver was five-hundredths of a second. Kishane Thompson was Lyle's opponent who ended up getting silver, but was at first declared gold. When watching this race was very exhilarating because how originally Lyles was not declared the winner, but after careful consideration and multiple replays on the TV screen, it was declared that Lyles won gold. This was one of the best races to watch for the men's track events because it is very quick and exhilarating because it is only one straight. With Lyles time being under ten seconds it is almost as if you can not blink because of how quickly the event goes by. Lyle's by far had one of the highest reputations to uphold because of his previous comments from a year prior and it was enjoyable watching him stand on his business.
    Social Anxiety Step Forward Scholarship
The thought of deep conversations can scare anyone, but for someone with social anxiety conversation itself can be scary. The idea of having social anxiety did not occur to me until I was in a conversation with a friend and mentioned how any form of public speaking or just simply raising my hand in class causes me to sweat and get nervous. Her reaction to me saying this indicated it was not a normal occurrence for others. After her response I looked back on other times I had to talk to someone who was intimidating or who made me nervous and realized I was not overreacting but was simply getting a panic attack. This new concept in middle school I rejected of having social anxiety, but later once Covid was over I realized I was scared to do anything in front of people. Not only doing something in front of people but by myself I was too scared to do. The fear of doing something by myself made me more isolated and I regret not going out more and doing more kid activities when I was younger. Now the thought of college terrifies me to go away from home. However, I am determined to go outside my comfort zone and work on being better at talking to people. This has already started when I go to the store I try to talk to the employees because it is a simple "hello" I can finally say. These little moments where I can talk to someone I do not know help me feel more prepared for college. Not only am I going to college away from home but I am also applying to all big colleges because I might be scared of talking to people I love to listen and have a good conversation with people. I have found out I dislike small schools and small classes because even though it is easier for me to raise my hand I do not like how everyone knows each other. Everyone knows everyone is an overwhelming feeling that I dislike and do not wish to encounter again because with social anxiety I want my own space. This has led me to want to go to a big college and try to overcome how social anxiety has affected my life. I do not want to be held back anymore by this fact which is why I choose to face my social anxiety head on and go to the college I want to without giving a thought about how big it is and how scary it might be in a social setting.
