Bio

I never stop working. I always have a clear mindset on what I want in life and will never stop in order to reach my goals. In 2020, at the beginning of my high school freshman year, during the pandemic, my father died after a massive stroke. In spite of the pain that I’ve felt from losing him, I am more motivated than ever to study hard, have a positive college experience and start a successful career. In addition to academics, I play on an AAU basketball team where I am not only a key member of the key, but serve as a leader. I would like to attend North Carolina A&T State University which I believe would position me to pursue a career in software engineering. I have a great work ethic, discipline, I have a level-headed demeanor and nonstop attitude. I know that my mother never expected to be a single parent to me at such an important time in my life and I would love to honor her and my father by earning a scholarship and gaining my college degree.

Life is a journey filled with unexpected events, and one of the most profound obstacles that I faced was at the beginning of freshman year of high school. At the age of fourteen, the foundation of my life was shaken to its core when my father suffered a massive stroke and passed away. The sudden loss of such a role model left me feeling overwhelmed with grief and uncertainty. Yet, through the darkest moments of my life, I discovered the true depth of my resilience and the power of embracing my father’s legacy. Navigating through my freshman year seemed like an insurmountable task at times as I was just starting to come into my own as a young man. Despite the weight of grief that I felt, I am grateful to my mother for caring about my emotional wellbeing, at a time that was incredibly challenging for her as she adapted to the new normal of living life without her husband and instantly becoming a single parent. Yet she made sure I had access to mental health resources and most importantly, she surrounded me with love and support. Through the process, I have continued to perform well academically in school, I have developed and become a leader on my club basketball team and I have friends whom I appreciate and respect. In the face of grief, I learned that healing is not a simple process. Each day presents new challenges, but I choose to honor my father’s memory by drawing strength from the love and wisdom he imparted during his time with my mother and I. He instilled in me the importance of perseverance and resilience, and I knew that he would want me to continue striving for success despite the pain of his absence. I intend to strive for success as I pursue a degree in computer science in college, with the hope of attaining a career in software engineering. My father was an IT professional and shared his technical curiosity with me at a young age. Now, I carry the same technical fascination. One of the most profound lessons I learned from this experience was the value of cherishing memories and celebrating life’s fleeting moments. My father’s passing taught me that life is unpredictable, and it is essential to express love and appreciation to those we hold dear. In his memory, I endeavor to be present for my loved ones, cherishing every interaction and creating lasting memories that will sustain me in difficult times. My experience has shaped my perspective on compassion, leading me to reach out to friends and peers who face their own hardships. Sharing our stories and supporting one another provides a sense of camaraderie that eases the sense of isolation grief can bring. I have become more self-reliant and determined to chart my own path. In my extracurricular activities, I now find solace and a sense of purpose, channeling my grief into creativity and service to others. Now more than ever, I am inspired to make a positive impact in someone’s life, just as my father has made a difference in my life. Through my grief, I have discovered my capacity for resilience and growth. My father’s legacy lives on in my determination to persevere, in the love and compassion I share with others, and in my commitment to making a difference in the lives of those facing similar hardships. Though the pain of loss endures, I am grateful for the strength and wisdom this experience has instilled in me and the sense of purpose and resilience I now have.

In a world that often pressures us to conform, Swift's song encourages us to embrace our unique qualities and to be true to ourselves. Swift's storytelling in the song reminds me that authenticity is respectable and that I should never shy away from expressing my true self. The positive energy in “Shake It Off” has motivated me to overcome obstacles and pursue my dreams with passion and originality.
