My Name is James Velasquez, I am a Senior at Cibola High School and i plan on graduating May 16th 2023 and plan on attending UNM starting in the fall of 2023. While at Cibola High School i have picked up many activities, specifically being a long standing member of the Cibola High School Golden Regement Band and The Cibola Golden Word Newspaper. I have Maintained a 3.3 Gpa as well. My time in band has given me many experiences, good and bad. It has also been probably the highlight of my life. I have met many amazing people including some ive known since middle school, those pepole include Lily Rich, Delaney Sudlow-Minteer, Marcos Cordova, Richie Newbert and John Detloff. They have become life long freinds and i hope to keep in touch with them after high school. This year i became the section leader to the clarnets and helped them, along with the enitre band place First at Padgent of Bands and Help Aquire "Best Woodwinds in Class 4a" A trophy we hadn't gotten since my freshman year with the show "hypnagogia". Attending Cibola also helped me switch my passion from being a officer to working for jornilsim with Mrs Valencias Jornilsim program being the main reason why. It helped me make me find more topics to research along with having me go into the field and having a blast interviewing and experiencing events like The Weeknd in Las Vegas, The Ballon Feista, The River Of Lights and many other events i couldnt count. Jornilsim has also made me come out of my shell more and social with pepole I wouldn't normally talk to. Sometimes when you talk to someone you find the common interests that could include music, video games, sports and many more. I feel like it would be rude to not give some credit to my leadership skills to Jared, I met him my freshman year of high school at band camp. I never interacted with jared much until my junior year. Jared was Brass Captian and was helpful to alot of the Freshman and Sophmores that didnt know how to march (this was the first year out of covid so alot of people didnt know how to march) His leadership was inspiring and along with Marcos Cordvas leadership of the clarnets i feel made me a better leader when it came my turn to lead the clarnets. Jared will always be remembered by those who knew him best as a great freind, a great student, a great athlete and overall a great person
