Bio

If I had the opportunity to meet with you personally I would express to you how proud I am to be an American of a diverse multicultural background and be a cheerleader for the Underdog. With my mother born Hawaiian and my father from Puerto Rico, I am beyond grateful to be a citizen in the greatest country in the world. Being different is a gift. My mother always taught me compassion toward others and at an early age let me follow my passion and dreams. I became a competitive dancer at a very young age and believe my early interest in dance and movement was a trait I received from her. My early love of dance and expression has now taken the form of cheerleading and leading school spirit. In this role, I have grown to become an example and advocate for diversity, equality, and inclusion. Character counts. My father had a more military style. Growing up we always had Saturday chores and responsibilities around the house. While he dictated what had to be done and encouraged us to try new experiences and push our limits. He taught us to live by duty, honor, and country. Be good to everyone. My father taught me that through adversity, we gain strength. Challenging times make us stronger; and, never underestimate the underdog. My Major is General Communication Studies. While my future profession may not even exist at this time, I see myself entering the workforce in a creative or innovative sales role. I will be well-equipped for success with the educational foundation of this program.

As a young student, male dancer, and cheer athlete, I've overcome bullying and adversity while being recognized as part of the LGBTQIA+ community. As a result of my experiences, I initiated and inaugurated a new school program in middle school and led a spirit of inclusion as a club(s) representative and 4-year varsity cheerleader in my high school. I became an actively recognized member of the LGBTQIA+ community, leading the school spirit and positively impacting others to embrace the LGBTQIA+ community. I would be honored to bring my experiences to KU and serve as an LGBTQIA+ advocate. I understand I was bullied for being LGBTQ+. It was the 7th grade, and I was on top of the world to have won 3 National Dance titles, including Mr Junior Dancemaker, Mr. Junior Headliner, and Mr. Junior Mr Starbound; however, things took a dramatic turn when I returned to the school lunch table following my last competition. While most boys kicked soccer balls for years, I was on my toes while taking ballet. I struggled to participate like them and played baseball, basketball, and volleyball, but I was only partially accepted by the team's inner circle. When I was verbally humiliated by the other boys in middle school, I felt I had nowhere to turn and was now suffering for my talent and differences. This setback led me to create a new path for others. Inclusion and Diversity Leader- Along with three friends, I initiated and inaugurated a new school club called "Safe Space" for the principal. Like the gay-straight alliance in high school, this club became a new standard and safe place that welcomed and included all those who did not feel a part of the community. Now, "Safe Space" is in its 7th year of success. It is meaningful to me that I have made a positive difference in students' lives and helped support the underdog. 4-Year Varsity Cheerleader and Community Volunteer Cheer Coach- My demonstrated leadership through cheerleading and school spirit have gone far beyond the football field. I actively embrace other's uniquenesses with enthusiasm and an inclusive spirit. I would apply these team experiences as a JAYHAWK in the classroom and at any athletic opportunity: High School Varsity Cheerleader- As a high school freshman and the only male cheerleader on the team, I was able to give positive visibility to the LGBQ community. In Sept 2021, I was humbled to be awarded "Athlete of the Month" for my leadership, coaching, and school spirit, and I would apply these skills at KU as a JAYHAWK. As a volunteer Coach for the community recreational team- I trained and motivated a diverse group of young athletes with varied abilities into a cohesive, welcoming team. I would apply my experience as a youth coach to inspire, lead, and represent LGBTQIA students at every opportunity. LGBTQIA community club representative. As an active high school student body member in the Student Council, Yearbook Club, Conservative Club, and Operation Snowball, I introduced new ideas. I led a spirit of inclusiveness as an LGBTQIA+ voice. I learned and inspired self-love and compassion, among others. I take pride in being a voice and example for inclusion and a defender and supporter of the underdog and LGBTQIA+ community… making a safer, happier place for all. It would be a great honor to bring my skills, experiences, and influence to the University of Kansas student body and serve as a positive representative and campus influence for all LGBTQIA+
