Bio

I'm a hard worker who likes to get his hands dirty. I prefer to be in the shop working on cars not in the classroom reading about them. It is my sincere desire to work hard and hopefully open my own shop to service the public.

Thank you for reading my essay, My name is Jimmy McLaughlin and I’m nineteen years old. I'm not good at writing essays nor was I ever great at schoolwork. I prefer being in the shop, working hands-on, restoring cars to their original condition or better. I enjoy pulling dents, sanding, painting, and buffing. I like taking a rusted car headed for the junk yard and making her a street running beauty. I like making the old look new again. My passion in collision repair led me to attending Eastern Technical High School and Mr. Park the teacher at Eastern inspired me to keep going and attend the Automotive Training Center in Warminster PA. Unfortunately, the Automotive Training Center is not cheap, and I have accumulated thousands of dollars in student loans to date and I still have more to pay for, this scholarship would help to reduce that financial burden so I will be able to dedicate myself to being the best collision repair automotive technician I can be. My desire work on cars drives me to be successful in my studies so I be successful in my future career. You see my dream is to be the absolute best collision repair automotive technician I can be. I want to get dirty and make the car the most important. I want to learn as much as I can in at the Automotive Training school, then hopefully get a job at a small old-fashioned shop collision repair shop where I can learn as much as I can from the older professional technicians. You can learn a lot in books, but I believe you will learn more from working side by side, listening and watching the professionals. I plan to also keep informed of all the new advancements by mixing the old and new you can’t help but be the best. It is my hope that someday, hopefully I will be successful enough to be the owner of my own shop where I can put the car first and teach what knowledge and hands on ability I acquired over the years to upcoming technicians. It is my hope to leave school with limited debt to help dreams can come true. As I said at the start, I'm not good a writing or spelling, but I am passionate about being hands on, getting dirty and learning. If you allow me to receive this scholarship it would contribute towards achieving my goals. Thank you.

I chose to attend the Automotive Training Center to learn collision repair technology as a follow up to attending Eastern Technical School part-time during my 11th and 12th grade years in high school. This is a decision was driven by my passion for working on cars and the practical need to know all I can to get a good job. I hope this essay will explain into my motives for pursuing this path and the contributions I hope to make in the collision repair industry. I really had no idea I wanted to work in this field until Mr. Park my 11th grade Collision repair teacher instilled the passion in me. It was recommended that I attend a secondary trade school to learn more and turn my passion into a career. This school, the Automotive Training Center is providing me with the technical skills and knowledge I need excel in the field. The Automotive Training Center provides a practical, hands-on approach to education. I was never great in “regular” school, I am not good at writing and book work is not my thing however the hands- on method is great and this is helping me to master techniques such as welding, painting, and bodywork. The demand for skilled collision repair technicians is growing, with the increasing number of vehicles on the road, accidents will happen, and the need for quality repair technicians is important. By learning this specialized skill in a trade school, I hope to obtain a rewarding career with many opportunities for advancement. Doing collision repair correctly is especially important for vehicle safety. By repairing cars properly after accidents, technicians help to prevent future accidents and injuries. This goes far towards protecting the future of America. The collision repair industry is continually changing, and technicians must stay on top of new developments, new techniques, and updated tools and by doing so, they can contribute to improving repair quality and efficiency. The industry also has a negative history about the environment with regards the using paints and materials that have harmful chemicals. By encouraging the shops, I work for use eco-friendly practices and sustainable materials, I can help reduce that shops environmental impact. I would also like to explore water-based paints, encourage recycling automotive parts, and explain how to minimize waste. As a collision repair technician, it will be my goal to work hard with integrity and provide quality workmanship. I will strive to build trust with clients and do quality work, provide through inspections, honest communication and put the customer first, hopefully improving the reputation of the collision repair industry. You can never stop learning and by participating in professional development opportunities, mentoring new technicians, attending workshops, and contributing to trade organizations I will share that with others in the industry. My ultimate goal is to have my own shop where I can be the provide the best collision repair. Thank you for taking the time read my essay it may not be written in perfect English or with proper grammar, but I hope it shared with you my goal and how I want to make a positive impact in the industry.
