Bio

Greetings everyone, My name is Jamara Davis an African American woman hailing from Chester Pennsylvania. From an adolescent age, I’ve always found myself asking questions and gathering intel whenever it came to matters of social justice and how people that identify like me are always being targeted or questioned in society. Once I was able to properly understand the true matter at hand something shifted inside of me that truly sparked a curiosity, that then led me to want to know about the inner working and departments of the judicial system and how somebody that looks like me can fully able to grasp that particular information. Soon I then realized I grew a dedication for wanting to learn more about the operations and history of the judicial system and how I can contribute my part to ensure the betterment of the system, which led me to my decision to become a Criminal Justice Major. After extensive research it guided me to Clark Atlanta University to make it a reality, I plan to become an Attorney in my community simply because many people from my environment aren’t heard or given a fighting chance when it comes to proper representation in all fields, while also planning on implementing programs within my city to help individuals understand the system so they know their rights and how to properly conduct themselves when faced with adversity.

Struggling with mental health can put you through a tremendiance amount of trauma and years' worth of down spirling which will lead you to feel lost and unheard. For years I was closed off from the help that could have started off my healing journey early but now I am aware and will continue to move forward in my journey. Granted there are many ways to help with mental health, but the main solution is to start with Acknowledgment. Destinie’s Dollars for Degrees Scholarship
The first thing I would do is talk to my fellow peer about what line of work they want to do and figure out if the college would be a better route for them to accomplish said work, we then would have a conversation about why don't they want to attend a college, giving them a safe space to allow their own thoughts of their perspective on how college is and how they see fit. Once their point is across I will then dive into mine, I would state that college is to help you further your education in anything you want to do but it takes hard work and dedication to ensure that your degree gets used the way you want to. Second I would inform them that college is indeed is one of the most prestigious places to network and work for valuable information that will help you start your process, being in college you are constantly surrounded by individuals that multiple degrees, organizations, scholarships, and worldwide connections that are there for you to take advantage of if approached correctly. Instead of trying to figure out everything on your own and constantly running into obstacles that hinder your journey you have real active individuals in college who have already experienced the same struggles and will help guide you through your journey all because they wish to have that individual they needed when first starting out. They see the route that you are willing to go for your goals and once a connection is built now you automatically have a mentor that helps make your journey more understanding and less detrimental to you. Also keep in mind all the memories, growth, time, and patience you will discover from your transformation from adolescence to adulthood, college helps in all aspects not just education-wise.
Snap Finance “Funding the Future” Scholarship
My name is Jamara Davis, I am from Chester Pennsylvania. I am a student currently enrolled at Clark Atlanta University pursuing my undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology but could be considering sociology as well in the near future. A First-generation student trying to pave my way to success through hard work and ambition but most importantly knowledge. Hence my commitment to Clark Atlanta University. Besides my educational route, I have other passions such as Dance I love dancing and being able to perform artwork through my body via movement and expressions which comes very naturally and calming to me, while also enjoying photography and capturing everyday life activities and nature. Also, I enjoy Art-viewing like paintings, molds, sculptures, and digital art but most importantly the backstory of said artwork. Daily walks to clear my head and bring peace with a dash of Starbucks and possibly retail therapy to make the day even better. Honestly, my main reason for choosing Criminal Justice as my field of study was simply because of the Tv shows I regrew up watching with my mom. NCIS New Orleans, All rise, Law & Order, How to get away with murder, and the When They See Us documentary are the things that really started the peak of my interest in law, granted knowing the majority of the scenes are fictional and won't be the same as an actual courtroom never stooped me from still wanting to do law, so I began to tap into my own research. The second reason is that I come from a low-income environment that is automatically looked at as undesirable and life-threatening. I have seen so many of my fellow peers go down the wrong path to the point where they need legal help and many of the attorneys that are given to them through the state typically don't care for their well-being or future moving forward. Coming from the same environment as many of those individuals you really do began to see the true colors of what the system has in store once they get ahold of you, I want to be that person that can help others when they get to that point and show genuine concern and have effective solutions to help better themselves even after the whole process is over. Just because a person runs into legal troubles doesn't automatically equal guilty or should be portrayed as a threat to society, everyone has a story that should be shared and receive proper help from those that care about the well-being and future of others. When I graduate from Clark Atlanta University with my bachelor's in Criminal Justice the plan is for me to attend law school and then commit to a law firm whose morals and aspirations line up with mine. Once I'm officially set up I will work my way to the top by learning all the information I need to know when becoming a defense attorney and I will be able to put my practices to use my knowledge to help fellow clients and explain to them the condition of their case and deal with and go about it. My next step would as be to possibly have my own law firm and place it in my own community to help my home environment and ensure the place that I call home has every resource and information they need when approaching or talking about the law. I would also start a class through my law firm to give legal advice and basic information on citizen rights everyone has in the country and the laws they need to know for survival.
      Ms. Catherine Gipson Scholarship
In all honesty, my mother is the reason for me pursuing my undergrad degree in Criminal Justice and I know that it may sound like a cliché but she is my reason for going. From a young age, my mother has always understood the importance of education and how knowledge stays with you forever and your mind is the best prize to rely on when dealing with the world. Throughout life in my community, not many my age would better themselves or even see a future for themselves. I decided that was not how I wanted to spend the remainder of my life, I have goals, I just had to have a plan and then proceed to execute the goal. So with everything in my power, my mother and I did everything we could to ensure my educational route, which led to my discovery of love for Law and Justice which led to a journey of realizing the purpose of wanting to be a Defense Attorney. With the love, support, and knowledge from my mother I was able to ensure a decision about my career, and part of that was choosing Clark Atlanta University to help me pursue my future career. Living in this world you live through things that don't make sense and sometimes cause you to question many things that are happening around you. To me, social justice is no matter the race, gender, or religion you are all should be offered the same opportunities, respect, and expectations to one another. Nobody is constantly looked down on or made to feel silent and allows some in society to treat them with injustice. In all honesty, social justice really is being able to keep one another alive not just because we favor them in some ways but just on the basic moral principles of people being humans and deserve that human decency. Also being able to live your life without having a feeling of a target on your back because of the bais standards that people but on one another and just live equally among each other both social and finical. The way I have been giving back to my community is by joining an organization whose main focus is giving back. By doing simple acts such as collecting clothing and shoes in good condition to give to the people in my community, doing toys for tots to ensure the children's ability to now own toy products, and writing holiday heartfelt cards to the senior citizen in my communities to let them know they are thought of. While also helping a local company that has a garden in my community and disturbing the food to the people of the community because of the food insecurity the United States is having.
