My name is Jala Sanae Williams and becoming an orthodontist is my final goal as far as my career. Being an African-American woman going into the STEM field is a large step for myself and my family simply because it is not common in my family. Throughout my career, I plan to reach out to many schools and churches and become a philanthropist for African-Americans sparking an interest in the STEM field, especially as this becomes more common for people who look like me. I want to be able to show students that school can be hard but it is possible and they can make it through as long as they stay determined. I would do these things because I believe that it would have helped me embrace my interest in science at a younger age. I plan to also do mission trips every year to teach kids around the world about science and robotics and just how cool it is to learn these things. I would also spend cleaning 100 children's teeth while in these impoverished countries. By working in various environments, I can gain a better understanding of how valuable education is and how much children would enjoy STEM activities if they had access to proper resources.Giving the children resources allows them to be curious and become curious about what limits there are in life. I believe that reaching these children, at the youngest age possible, is beneficial to them starting a future. I would greatly appreciate being the person to expose these children to science and I cannot wait to change the world by being an African-American doctor that is also a woman! Being a woman that is an orthodontist while being African-American is important because it allows me to form a role model for children. I would serve as a role model to many people in my community and especially my patients and I would be able to show them that if you can dream it, then you can achieve it. I would make sure that I am engraining into all of my patient's minds that education is important and to try new things because that is what it takes to become a professional. I will also make sure that I can be a mentor to my clients and help them with anything that I can. I want to be a sign of encouragement and help them choose schools for their futures.
