Bio

Hello, my name is Jaime Roy! I am a pre-nursing student at Texas Woman's University. I was an Early College High School Senior in Texas, in the top 2% of my class, a National Society Member, a first-generation Indian college student, a former tennis player, and the eldest daughter and sister. One of my life goals is my aspiration to be a nurse practitioner; I want to help people and their families get healthier and stay healthy so they can live better lives. I am always looking for a challenge and an opportunity to improve. I am most passionate about my family, my religion, and my music. My family, religion, and playlists have provided so much comfort and support throughout my life, so I want to honor them as much as possible. I love new experiences and want to see more in my future. In the future, I hope to travel around the world and explore different cultures. I am also a big fan of music and always looking for some listening recommendations. I hope Bold can help me meet a few of my goals.

Receiving this scholarship would be a tremendous support and encouragement as I pursue my journey toward higher education and a passionate career in nursing. As an Indian immigrant, eldest daughter, and college student, I am learning to navigate grueling expectations, academic pressure, and financial hardships. This scholarship would relieve some burden so I can continue working toward my future in healthcare. I am a sophomore in college pursuing nursing at Texas Woman’s University, interested in emergency medicine, cardiology, neurology, and oncology. I graduated from high school in 2025 with an associate's degree in science, top 11 of my class, former JV tennis player, National Honor Society member, and certified pharmacy technician. In this past year, I have served my church’s youth committee as a youth treasurer, organizing events, helping our local community outside DFW, and creating fellowship among young and old members. For me, nursing is not just a career, but a passion. My mother has been a nurse for over 20 years, and after beating cancer, she became a light for others in her oncology unit and for me. Nursing to me means serving those in need. Thanks to the healthcare professionals taking adamant care of my mom, she is here with us, teaching us and sharing her story. They were with my family and me through an unimaginable situation. I want to be the nurse who helps her patient and family through the tough times and sees the recovery. I am an avid learner and hope to learn and absorb as much knowledge to assist doctors and patients. Within the last year, my parents’ interchanging separation and divorce have brought emotional and financial instability to my family and me. Financial stress has been constraining me from reaching my full potential, along with unbearable anxiety about money. However, because we do not make enough for the government to cover school, nor do we make enough for tuition, I am on a sinking ship. A scholarship would help ease this burden so I can pursue my academic goals to invest in my future without the fear of financial limitations. As the eldest daughter and an immigrant, I am responsible for setting an example and exceeding expectations. I constantly feel the pressure to succeed not for myself but for my family, who, although they are breaking apart, sacrificed countless times to create better opportunities for me. Although this can be overwhelming, it is also my fuel to work harder, remain focused, and be resilient and adaptable to coming challenges. This past year has been a rollercoaster that I did not voluntarily get on. Graduating from high school, getting my associate's degree in science, starting college, and becoming a pharmacy technician have been such blessings. Yet, a messy divorce, a hard job market, and crushing expectations have tried to wear me down. Despite the obstacles I have faced, I remain academically driven. Education to an immigrant family brings independence, stability, and opportunity. I constantly push myself because I know that overcoming today's struggles will lead to a future of opportunities. This scholarship would support my education financially, bringing me closer to achieving my passion to help the community. Thank You

We are not guaranteed tomorrow, but since I have hope for the next day, I pursue many goals according to lessons taught and learned on the way to help my academic, career, and personal goals. I have strived to make a difference in people's lives, both friends and strangers and though not the easiest pursuit, it gave me a sense of purpose. In a world full of tension and overwhelming circumstances, even the smallest acts of kindness can be deeply effective on others. In all my roles - mother, nurse, friend, etc. - I aspire to inspire others to create a ripple wave of success through positivity. Each day, I try to spread positivity wherever I go. It is important to me as it is rooted in my Christian faith. I hope to foster an infectious joy in a world of negativity and backlash. Currently, I am a pharmacy technician trainee at Walgreens. Throughout my time there, I have professionally developed and acquired knowledge to pass my certification exam and to build for my long-term goal of becoming a nurse practitioner. It may not be the most luxurious career, but it incorporates my passions: helping patients, a leadership position, and teaching future nurses. Life is not a smooth ride, but how we face and handle adverse situations determines how we develop. After migrating to a country with eight dollars in his pocket, my father faced racism and poor living conditions to make a comfortable living for my mother and siblings. As we lived a comfortable life, my mother was diagnosed with cancer due to the malpractice of a doctor during my youngest sister's birth. This was a difficult social, emotional, and economic time in our lives. My parents were drowning in bills, and my siblings and I felt neglected. We could see the light at the end of the tunnel through prayer and the support of church members, family, and friends. After rounds of chemotherapy and radiation, she was able to recover, yet the effects of it are showing - osteoporosis, weakness, and other health effects. Luckily, my mother is still with us and we are slowly recovering from the dent in our savings. After these events, I can affirm that difficult situations are a testament to the lessons we learn. I am determined to pursue a Bachelor of Nursing at Texas Woman's University, an accredited school of nursing well known for its quality of education and nurses passing the NCLEX. This school, along with my hard work, will equip me with the essential skills and knowledge to become the best of the 6% of Indian nurses and nurse practitioners possible. I desire to learn skills and make meaningful connections with patients so that they have a little light in a darker place. Moreover, I want to make the workplace a comfortable environment, so I will pursue more administrative positions to solve the grievances of coworkers. As I get older and my body weakens, I will become a mentor who helps transition new nurses into the workforce. I plan on teaching younger generations of nurses in practical and leadership roles and inspiring young brown nurses to pursue their dreams. Overall, living a purposeful life contributes to the development of society and oneself. My goal is to become a nurse practitioner who teaches the coming generations about the importance of resilience and endurance in this humble profession as well as the fulfillment it reaps. I look forward to continuing my academic education as well as my personal growth, excelling in my career, and continuing to make a difference in each encounter.

I have established daily, short-term, and long-term goals so that I can become a version of myself while helping others. Each day, I try to spread positivity wherever I go: helping classmates study, words of encouragement, being optimistic, being the person others confide in, etc. This goal is particularly important to me as it is rooted in my Christian faith. In a world full of negativity and backlash, I hope to foster an infectious joy. A short-term goal is looking for more learning opportunities, such as internships and higher education. It may not be the most luxurious career, but it incorporates my passions: helping patients, a leadership position, and teaching future nurses. My philosophy on success is that the degree it is measured is not a fixed unit, but the accumulation of growth and satisfaction. Succeeding in life means accomplishing goals while living authentically. Life is not a smooth ride, but how we face and handle adverse situations determines how we develop. Difficult situations are testaments to the lessons we learn. Equally important is the concept of balancing life and well-being. Working at school or in the workplace is equally important as relaxing or recreational activities when off. When I make time for rest, it creates clarity necessary for all aspects of my life - physically, mentally, and academically.
