Forensics investigators look at crime scenes, pictures, and evidence to solve a crime. They question people and view things in different perspectives. These investigators come across different challenges everyday. My dad works in law enforcement and I have always wanted to grow up to be just like him. He is strong, smart, and reliable. I have always looked up to him in every way. Growing up with my dad was listening to him tell different stories of his days at work. I grew fascinated by the intensity and difficulty of his job. I started watching shows and movies about murder mysteries. I was eager to learn more. I want to be a forensics investigator because I enjoy having something new everyday. I get easily bored and love to learn new things. I love challenges. Solving crimes is the perfect challenge for me. Although the work is difficult to get at, I will train hard and ask my dad for anything I need help with. I wish to major in criminal justices. I want to obtain my bachelors degree by May 2026. I won’t stop at just my bachelors. I would like to continue my education and obtain my masters degree in criminal justice and a minor in psychology. All while getting my education I will work in dispatch with my dad or even just as a student worker. I am currently pursuing my certification in 911 dispatch in one of my senior classes. By the ends of April I will be certified to work in 911 dispatch. Roque Velasco Jr, a first generation child, graduated from United South High School in the year 2000. After graduating high school he enrolled at Laredo Community College to obtain an associates and attend the police academy. After graduating from the police academy, he enrolled at Texas A&M International University to pursue his bachelors in criminal justice. He got a job as a patrol officer in Cotulla, TX. Traveling from a small town called Rio Bravo to his place of employment every day. Working any shift of the day they gave him without complaint. He grew to love what he did without fear of protecting those around him. After years of working in Cotulla, he got a job offer at the TAMIU Police Department. While there over the years, he was promoted to lieutenant, then captain. While being captain of the police department he decided to go back to school in 2021 to get his masters degree. In 2022, you walked the stage once more and claimed your degree. A year later, he was promoted once more to Assistant Chief of Police. At just the age of 41, he is at the top of his department with an associates, bachelors, and masters degree. Roque Velasco is my father and he will forever be one of the biggest impacts in my life. My dad impacted my life by teaching me what hard work and dedication means. He showed me to never give up on what you love. And most importantly, he taught me that with life comes sacrifices to be able to do more for better. “Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end,” he said to me.

Culture helps mold an individual into the person they are today and in the future. For example, in latin culture it is about hard work, family, and above all love. These special characteristics of latin culture build personality. For example, my mom comes from latin culture, she taught me to always be strong, love what I do, and of course to always have good manners. My mom plays a big role in shaping who I grew to become today. Soft skills are a big part of building a better society for younger generations to come and coming from a latin family helped me develop multiple soft skills that I utilize in everyday life. My family is a part of my personality, helping me gain great qualities, such as patience, superior communication, and discipline. These qualities are great soft skills needed in society today. Growing up I was always a timid person. I struggled with public speaking, making friends, and things as small as ordering food at a restaurant. When I was sixteen years old, I got my first job as a sales associate at Aeropostale. On my first day on the job, I got to work the morning shift and didn’t have to come across many customers. I got to restock the shelves and organize the store. I spent the morning restocking, thinking to myself “I love this job already, it’s so settled.” Although I really enjoyed my first day of work, I didn’t know what to expect from the rest of shifts for the week because they were in the afternoon. I was trained to work in the morning and wasn’t prepared for their afternoon rushes. Being hired during a peak season required me to work outside my comfort zone and learn how to communicate effectively and efficiently with customers and coworkers. With the afternoon rush and impatient customers waiting in long lines, I learned to adjust to the chaos. Patience is an important soft skill needed in our community in order to strive. This job taught me to be patient not only with other people, but with myself as well. My dad works in law enforcement and I have always wanted to grow up to be just like him.
