One passion that has significantly shaped who I am today is my work empowering young girls from underprivileged backgrounds, particularly at the Pace Center For Girls. Growing up in similar circumstances, I deeply understand the challenges these girls face. I’ve been involved with Pace for a while now, and it’s become a space where I can use my own experiences to help guide these girls toward finding their voice and realizing their potential. This passion for mentorship and empowerment comes from my desire to ensure these girls feel heard, supported, and confident in themselves, despite the obstacles they may encounter in life. Through my work with Pace, I’ve developed a range of skills that have not only strengthened my ability to communicate effectively, but also helped me grow as a leader. I’ve learned the importance of active listening, hearing their stories, struggles, and dreams, and then using that information to encourage them to take ownership of their journey. Whether it’s helping them with their schoolwork, personal challenges, or career aspirations, I’ve learned how to approach each girl individually, tailoring my support to what she needs. This has taught me how to be adaptable and how to provide constructive feedback in a way that motivates, rather than discourages. Additionally, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of leadership. Leadership, in my experience, isn’t about asserting control or authority; it’s about helping others recognize their worth and empowering them to take charge of their own lives. By fostering a safe space where these girls can express themselves without fear of judgment, I’ve seen firsthand how important it is to create an environment of trust and encouragement. Helping them break free from societal expectations and limitations has not only inspired them, but has also given me a profound sense of purpose. Being involved with Pace has also made me reflect on my own journey. It has reminded me of the significance of having role models who look like you and understand your struggles. It’s shown me the power of representation and how impactful it is to see someone who has overcome adversity, and is now giving back to their community. This has influenced my personal goals, as I aspire to continue supporting young women, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds, and to keep pushing for greater opportunities for them to find their voice and pursue their dreams. Ultimately, this experience has been a transformative one for me. It has shaped my outlook on leadership, purpose, and personal growth, and I am deeply committed to continuing this work, knowing how much it impacts both my life and the lives of the girls I help mentor.
