I’m a motivated and responsible student who always strives to do my best. My peers often describe me as a bright and creative individual, and I take pride in working hard both in and out of the classroom. I hope to pursue a college degree in medicine, with the goal of becoming a Cardiothoracic or General Surgeon. What inspires me most is learning how the human body works and how that knowledge can lead to real improvements in people’s lives. My dedication to this goal shows not just in my academic performance, but also through my involvement in team sports like volleyball and flag football, where I’ve learned the value of teamwork, discipline, and leadership.

Rev. Frank W. Steward Memorial Scholarship
As a senior graduating in the top 1% at Miami Northwestern Senior High School and a medical magnet scholar who has a deep passion for medicine, my goal is to pursue a career as a cardiothoracic surgeon or general surgeon.
I began taking dual enrollment, honors and advanced placement science and math courses to strengthen my background. My love for science and math has been supported by coursework in AP Chemistry, AP Pre-Calculus, Physics, Anatomy, General Chemistry and Qualitative Analysis, Statistical Methods, and College Trigonometry just to name a few. I’ve also earned the top Medical Magnet Nursing student award which is given to students for high academic achievement. Additionally, at sixteen years old, I earned my Florida State License as a Certified Nursing Assistant and National Health Association Certification as an Electrocardiograph Technician.
I believe that service is important. Hence, I am President of National Honor Society, Chess Club, and the former President of the Key Club. Through these service clubs I've been able to curate several projects that give back to my community through clothing, food and toy drives. This is I was nominated as a Miami Herald Silver Knight Scholar in the area of General Scholarship. I'm also a member and part of the media ministry at my church home of over ten years.
The first course of action in my plan is to earn a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Biology. Depending on the course load this could change to a more centralized focused STEM area in chemistry, biochemistry, or microbiology. Since I have already earned my Associate of Arts (AA) degree as a junior in senior high school, after completing my B.S. I intend to enroll in a dual MD/PhD program. I’m passionate about becoming a surgeon, but I also want to address racial disparities in healthcare and help underserved communities. I believe that being a physician while still doing research will allow me to make a greater impact by not only treating patients but also staying informed on medical research and taking what I learn to improve healthcare for future generations. One of my goals is to combine hands on clinical care with scientific research to help close the gap in healthcare access and quality.
My long-term goal is to either open my own medical practice or work in one of the top hospitals in the country. Regardless of where I end up, it is extremely important to me to remain involved in the community. Volunteering has always been a meaningful part of my life, and I intend to continue giving back as a medical professional. I especially want to mentor youth in my community and promote health literacy. Many people, particularly young individuals, are not taught how to properly take care of their physical and mental health. This lack of education can lead to long-term health issues that could otherwise be prevented. I believe it is important for impressionable youth to learn how to take care of themselves and others, and I want to be someone they can look up to and learn from.
Lastly, I believe the biggest obstacle that I may encounter in college is balancing the intense coursework while missing my family. I am very independent but I feel like my family environment is warm and welcoming and this will take some time to get use to. My mother and I have a very close bond, I'll miss the lunch dates and long talks but, I believe that the time apart will allow me to strengthen my relationship with God.
