Bio

I want to go into the field of chemical engineering, this is something I have a lot of passion. I figured this out my junior year of high school when I took my first chemistry class, every time I walked into the class I couldn't wait to learn more about the subject and expand my knowledge about that subject. I have done my research and the University of Michigan has one of the best chemical engineering programs in the world. That is only one of the reasons I dream of going to UM. I was also born in Ann Arbor Michigan, specifically, I was born at the University of Michigan Hospital. Unfortunately, I only got to live their for 4 years before I moved to Ohio but I have still been a Michigan fan. I want to be able to come back and educate myself where I was born and be able to explore new things at Michigan.

. my experiences in the band; I have played the saxophone for multiple years and have been in a marching band. I have met a lot of people through these programs and gained a lot of life experience. As a young musician in a community that thrives in the arts, there is a lot of competition. It involves a lot of practicing and auditioning for high-level bands, and when you don't get in it's unfortunate, but gives you a good sense of reality at a young age. There will always be someone better and you will have to work harder than you think to try to become the best. This is what being a young musician and growing up with the arts has taught me, I have enjoyed every second of being a high school musician, and will continue to love musicianship and meet more people through music in college. The band is one of the great opportunities that my application would be incomplete without. I play the alto and bari saxophone, and throughout high school, I have participated in several bands. Such as Jazz band, Wind Ensemble, Chamber winds and Marching band and I hope to also participate in similar activities in college. The band is one of the biggest portions of my life, I have made so many friends and learned from so many other musicians. Out of all the bands I have been in Marching band has taught me the most. I have been a member of the marching band for 4 years, which means every summer of mine since freshman year of high school has been cut short because starting in July through November we have two hours of practice every day. Through marching band you learn a lot, mentally and physically it isn't easy to play music at a high level while moving. It involves you training your body and pushing yourself to the limit, Without these lessons I wouldn't be the man I am today. On Saturday, October 22nd I attended the Cincinnati Community Orchestra’s concert. It was a very interesting concert with lots of great music and talented musicians. One of my favorite pieces of the concert was the “Concerto for Horn in B-flat major”. This song had three parts and lasted well over ten minutes. In every part, the french horn player Douglas Jones exhibited great skill and professionalism on the horn, and I couldn't imagine the fatigue he felt after playing a concerto for 20 minutes straight. To me, this was the most impressive part of the evening and the highlight of this concert that I will remember forever. Concerts like these and many more I've been to just fill me with joy, I have been going to concerts since I was a child and I have always loved going to a music hall in Cincinnati Oh. To see the perfection of these musicians as a child and then growing up on the path of musicianship, and to see the true level of skill that these musicians have. As a musician, and someone who aspires to be a great musician, going to those concerts inspires me to be a better saxophonist.

am an African American and Ghanaian middle-class male, I have been raised by my mother, and I only lived with my father and mother when I was young when we still lived in Michigan. I want to learn more about my Ghanaian heritage so I can be closer to that side of the community. Currently, though I do know a lot about my black American heritage and I feel like one of my jobs in my community is to make sure people know and respect that history. The black community is very strong and close to their roots but can also, it can be given but not always the most patient. I feel like my position in my community is to make an impact even if it's small on everyone who I come in contact with. I have been blessed with a lot of information and opportunities that not everyone has, and I want to make sure I can share them with everyone possible. I don't want to be anyone's hero but I like to try to help anyone I can and be an upstanding person in my community. I am pursuing a degree in engineering and I am hoping that I can make a huge impact on the world by making a groundbreaking discovery. I am a proud boy scout and what that means to me is someone who takes care of their community, and does anything to help it. Since there aren't many african American scouts compared to Caucasians I feel I have to stand on a higher plain to show how I can help my community. I have already participated in a lot of service hours for the community but I want to do more. I want to be an inspiration to other young black boys and girls so that they can be better. That they can be more than the stereotype that everyone in society puts on them, and this can happen in many different ways. I just chose mine to be boy scouts because I've been able to learn and teach a lot of younger people through this program. I part take in a lot of community service projects, as a boy scout it is my duty to do my service for the community. The biggest project I have ever done is the one I am currently working on for my eagle scout, this is a project where I am building four pick-nick benches for a church and servicing their shelter. This has been a lot of work but it will be worth it for my community, I have planned this whole project, funded and had to present this project to multiple people for it to be signed off. Once I finish it, this project will be something I can give to my community and be proud of forever, as well as the 25 or more hours of community service I endeavor in a year
