    Hubert Colangelo Literacy Scholarship
As a senior balancing high school and college courses, I’ve had time to reflect on my journey—both the challenges and growth. High school was tough for me, as I struggled with bullying and harassment, often feeling overwhelmed. However, these experiences taught me resilience, kindness, and compassion, motivating me to pursue a career where I can help others feel heard and supported. I am fortunate to have incredibly supportive parents who are always there for me. My family is middle class, and while we aren't wealthy, both of my parents work hard to ensure my sister and I are well taken care of. I’ve seen my dad get laid off several times, and neither of my parents has a college degree. Their determination to provide for us has inspired me to push forward and take full advantage of every opportunity. One of the most impactful aspects of my life has been my love for fitness and powerlifting. The gym has been essential for both my physical and mental health. My passion for powerlifting led me to join our school's powerlifting club, where I recently earned second place in my weight group at the state competition. This experience deepened my commitment to fitness and inspired me to pursue a career in exercise science. I’ve been accepted into Defiance College, where I will continue my powerlifting journey and work toward a degree in Exercise Science. My goal is to earn a Master’s in Athletic Training and help others become stronger—both physically and mentally. I believe my experiences, paired with my education and passion, will allow me to create supportive environments that empower others to improve their health and well-being.
    Redefining Victory Scholarship
Success, to me, is a deeply personal and evolving concept. It's not just about academic achievements, career milestones, or external recognition. Instead, success is rooted in growth, resilience, and the ability to rise above life’s challenges. It’s about the journey of learning, self-improvement, and finding purpose, even when faced with obstacles. My definition of success encompasses the strength to overcome adversity, the perseverance to continue pursuing my dreams, and the courage to help others along the way. Throughout my life, I’ve faced my fair share of challenges, and high school was especially difficult. I struggled with bullying and anxiety, which made each day feel like an emotional battle. Walking through the hallways was draining, as I felt isolated and misunderstood. These experiences, though painful, were pivotal in shaping who I am today. They taught me invaluable lessons about resilience, empathy, and the importance of mental and emotional strength. I realized that success isn’t about avoiding hardship; it’s about learning to face those hardships head-on and growing stronger as a result. For me, sports became a place of refuge. As I joined my high school softball team and later pursued powerlifting, I found solace in physical activity. Sports allowed me to channel my emotions, gain a sense of control, and build confidence. Powerlifting, in particular, taught me more than just physical strength. It was in the gym that I learned mental toughness, discipline, and the importance of pushing through discomfort. I also realized that my experiences with anxiety and bullying were not unique—many people face struggles that are invisible to others, and it’s essential to create spaces where people feel supported and valued. These personal experiences are what have shaped my desire to pursue a career in kinesiology and athletic training. I want to help others who are facing physical, emotional, or mental challenges—just as I did. In my future career, I envision myself not only helping athletes recover physically but also being an advocate for their emotional well-being. I want to offer a holistic approach to rehabilitation, where mental health is given as much attention as physical recovery. This passion for helping others is what drives me to work hard every day and continue to strive toward my goals, even when it feels difficult. This scholarship would play a crucial role in helping me achieve my definition of success. Attending college is an essential step in pursuing my career goals, but financial constraints can be a significant barrier. As a senior in high school, I’m currently juggling college coursework while navigating the complexities of planning for my future. The financial relief this scholarship provides would allow me to focus more on my studies and less on the financial strain of attending college. It would also alleviate some of the stress associated with balancing my academic and personal life, giving me more time to engage in activities that will help me grow both as a student and as a person. Ultimately, my goal is to use my education to make a positive impact on others’ lives. I hope to inspire others to overcome their own struggles and pursue their passions, just as I am doing. Success, to me, is not just about what I achieve individually, but also about helping others reach their potential. With this scholarship, I would be able to continue my academic journey with the support I need to succeed and make a meaningful contribution to the world around me. It would bring me one step closer to my dream of becoming an athletic trainer and advocate for those facing adversity, helping them achieve their own version of success.
    Nickels Student Athlete Scholarship
As a student-athlete, I have faced many challenges that have shaped who I am today and have played a significant role in my decision to pursue a career in kinesiology and athletic training. Throughout high school, I struggled with anxiety and bullying, which often made it difficult for me to focus and perform at my best. Walking through the halls of school became a challenge as I was subjected to harsh taunts and ridicule, which affected my mental and emotional health. Despite these challenges, sports became my sanctuary. The gym, where I could push my physical limits, allowed me to escape the negativity surrounding me and gave me a sense of control. As a high school athlete, I participated in softball for all four years and joined the powerlifting team, even making it to the state competition. These experiences taught me not just physical strength but also emotional resilience. I realized that sports can be a powerful tool for overcoming mental and emotional obstacles, and that’s when I began to understand how important mental health is in an athlete’s overall well-being. Through my time in sports, I learned valuable lessons such as perseverance, teamwork, and discipline. The lessons learned on the field extended far beyond sports and applied to other aspects of life. I learned to push through difficult moments, to maintain focus, and to stay motivated even when facing adversity. Sports taught me how to be humble in both victory and defeat, and I learned the importance of sportsmanship and lifting others up, even when I faced my own struggles. It became clear that my experiences in sports had prepared me for future challenges and gave me the tools to handle them with grace. These experiences have influenced my decision to pursue a career in athletic training, where I can help others who face similar challenges. I want to give back by supporting athletes both physically and emotionally, advocating for holistic rehabilitation and helping them recover from injury, not only physically but also mentally. I understand that being an athlete isn’t just about performing well—it’s about mental fortitude, resilience, and the ability to bounce back after setbacks. This scholarship would significantly help me in achieving my goals by providing financial support to continue my education in kinesiology and exercise science. It would allow me to focus on my studies and career path without the burden of financial strain, so I can continue my journey of helping athletes live healthy, balanced lives. In summary, being a student-athlete has taught me valuable life lessons about resilience, teamwork, and perseverance. Overcoming personal adversity has given me the drive to pursue a career in athletic training, where I can advocate for the well-being of athletes and use my own experiences to help them face their challenges. This scholarship will help me achieve those goals and continue my education in a field that I’m passionate about.
Joe Gilroy "Plan Your Work, Work Your Plan" Scholarship
My goal is to pursue a degree in kinesiology and exercise science to become an athletic trainer. I am passionate about helping athletes recover from injuries and improve their overall well-being. Although I’ve been accepted into Marshall University, the $23,000 annual cost—without including books or housing—is beyond my financial reach. Therefore, I’ve decided to attend Ohio University – Chillicothe, where I can live at home to significantly reduce my living expenses and pursue my education. Short-Term Goals Complete my undergraduate education in kinesiology and exercise science. Plan: I will attend Ohio University – Chillicothe, where I can complete my degree while staying at home to minimize expenses. I’ll continue taking College Credit Plus (CCP) courses to save time and money. Resources Needed: Scholarships and financial aid to help cover tuition and other costs. I will also rely on my family’s support while living at home. Gain practical experience through internships and part-time work. Plan: I will seek internships or volunteer opportunities with local sports teams or clinics during breaks and summers to build hands-on experience in athletic training. Resources Needed: Access to local clinics and athletic programs, and networking through Ohio University’s resources. Pass the Board of Certification (BOC) exam. Plan: After completing my degree, I will study for and pass the BOC exam to become a certified athletic trainer. Resources Needed: Study materials, practice exams, and mentorship from certified professionals. Long-Term Goals Establish a career as an athletic trainer. Plan: After certification, I will seek employment with professional or collegiate sports teams or in a clinical setting. I’ll start with entry-level positions and build my career from there. Resources Needed: Job search resources, networking, and professional development. Advocate for holistic rehabilitation. Plan: I will push for the integration of mental health support in athlete rehabilitation. This is essential for helping athletes recover physically and emotionally. Resources Needed: Access to professional organizations, workshops, and continuing education. Financial Considerations Although Marshall University is my dream school, I cannot afford the cost of $23,000 per year, not including books or housing. By attending Ohio University – Chillicothe, I will save $12,000 annually by living at home and paying lower tuition. Ohio University’s tuition is about $11,000 per year, while Marshall’s costs are more than double. I will also apply for scholarships to help cover costs like books, which I estimate to be around $500 per semester. Timeline and Milestones Year 1: Complete foundational courses in kinesiology and general education while applying for scholarships and financial aid. Year 2-3: Seek internships or volunteer opportunities in athletic training. Network and gain experience. Year 4: Complete degree requirements, prepare for certification exams, and apply for jobs in athletic training. With hard work and determination, I will gain hands-on experience, complete my certification, and work as an athletic trainer. I am committed to helping athletes recover not only physically but emotionally, and I believe I will make a significant impact in this field.
    Kalia D. Davis Memorial Scholarship
I am a high school senior who has always been passionate about both academics and athletics, much like Kalia D. Davis, whose life story deeply resonates with me. As a student-athlete, I’ve learned that balancing sports and education requires dedication, discipline, and a strong work ethic. Like Kalia, I strive for excellence in everything I do, and I am committed to pushing myself both in my academic pursuits and in my extracurricular activities. I’ve maintained a 3.0 GPA while balancing a demanding schedule that includes sports, volunteering, and college coursework through the College Credit Plus program. I am also a dedicated athlete, particularly in softball and powerlifting. These sports have taught me valuable lessons in perseverance, teamwork, and self-discipline, qualities that I carry with me into every aspect of my life. Much like Kalia, who excelled in track and cross country, I also understand the importance of pushing myself to my limits and constantly striving to improve. Beyond athletics, I am passionate about giving back to my community. I have volunteered at Wise Medical Staffing for two years, where I’ve helped with office duties and learned valuable organizational skills. Additionally, I have mentored younger athletes in my community, particularly in softball, and I’ve seen the positive impact that encouragement and support can have on someone’s confidence and growth. Volunteering has been a rewarding experience, and I plan to continue using my time and skills to help others in the future. This scholarship would be a tremendous help as I continue my journey towards earning a degree in kinesiology and exercise science. Like Kalia, I am driven to excel in my field, and I aspire to become an athletic trainer, where I can help athletes recover from physical and emotional challenges. I am motivated to create safe spaces for people to heal and grow, just as Kalia made an impact on the lives of those around her with her positive energy and work ethic. The financial support from this scholarship would ease the burden of college expenses, allowing me to focus more on my studies and my future career. Kalia’s legacy of excellence, kindness, and ambition inspires me to continue striving for greatness in everything I do. I hope to honor her memory by embodying the same qualities she demonstrated—working hard, uplifting others, and giving back to the community. Thank you for considering my application. This scholarship would help me take the next step in my education and career while carrying on Kalia’s legacy of living, loving, laughing, and learning.
    Big Picture Scholarship
The movie that has had the greatest impact on my life is The Pursuit of Happyness (2006), starring Will Smith. This film deeply resonates with me because it highlights themes of resilience, perseverance, and the power of hope—values that have been essential in shaping my own journey through adversity. In the movie, Chris Gardner, portrayed by Will Smith, is faced with a series of overwhelming challenges. He struggles with homelessness, financial instability, and the responsibilities of raising his young son while trying to build a better life for them both. Despite the constant setbacks and hardships, Chris never gives up on his dream of a better future. His unwavering determination, relentless work ethic, and hope in the face of despair have profoundly influenced me. Much like Chris, I’ve had to navigate difficult times in my own life. In high school, I dealt with bullying, anxiety, and isolation. These struggles often left me feeling unsupported and unsure of my path. However, watching Chris's journey in The Pursuit of Happyness helped me realize that, no matter how tough the circumstances may seem, it is possible to rise above them and turn adversity into an opportunity for growth. His story reminded me that the power to change my life lies within me, and even when things seem impossible, perseverance and self-belief are key to overcoming obstacles. The movie also inspired me to pursue a career where I can help others who are facing challenges similar to the ones I encountered. Chris’s passion for creating a better life for his son motivated me to use my own experiences to make a positive impact in the world. In my case, this means pursuing a degree in kinesiology and exercise science to become an athletic trainer. I’ve seen how physical and mental strength are interconnected, and I want to help others, especially athletes, recover from injuries—both physically and emotionally. Watching Chris Gardner work tirelessly to create a future for himself and his son reminded me that I, too, can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. What made The Pursuit of Happyness even more impactful for me is the message that success isn’t just about achieving goals but also about personal growth and resilience. Chris Gardner’s ability to stay hopeful and determined, despite losing everything, serves as a powerful reminder that the journey is just as important as the destination. This resonates with my own experience as I’ve faced and continue to face my personal challenges. It’s not about the setbacks; it’s about how I move forward, learn, and grow from them. Ultimately, The Pursuit of Happyness has shaped my mindset by instilling in me the belief that no matter how difficult life may get, it’s important to keep pushing forward. It’s inspired me to not only pursue my goals but also to maintain hope, develop resilience, and support others who are navigating their own struggles. The movie has shown me that while the road may be tough, perseverance, faith, and determination will eventually lead to success.
    Valerie Rabb Academic Scholarship
My name is Jaiden Clemons, and I am a senior at Unioto High School, balancing both high school and college coursework. I am pursuing a degree in Exercise Science/Kinesiology at Ohio University, and my goal is to become an athletic trainer. I want to help others recover physically and emotionally, ensuring they can return to their activities with confidence and strength. My journey has been shaped by personal struggles, especially during high school when I faced anxiety, bullying, and isolation. Walking through the halls felt like an emotional battle as I was subjected to cruel taunts and harassment. The weight of anxiety often left me feeling overwhelmed, and there were days I begged my mom to let me stay home to avoid the pain. This experience of being misunderstood and unsupported affected me deeply, but it also taught me valuable lessons in resilience and empathy. I learned that while I couldn’t control how others treated me, I could control how I responded and grew from adversity. One of the most significant ways I found relief was through physical activity. The gym became my sanctuary—a place where I could escape the emotional turmoil. Through powerlifting, I discovered how exercise could alleviate mental distress. The discipline and focus required in powerlifting helped me overcome mental barriers, and making it to the state competition was a huge personal achievement. This experience solidified my belief that physical and emotional health are deeply interconnected, and it drove me to pursue a career in athletic training. I want to become an athletic trainer because I understand the importance of both physical and emotional recovery. My own struggles have made me passionate about helping others who face similar challenges. I believe rehabilitation goes beyond just treating physical injuries; it’s about offering emotional support and helping individuals develop resilience. By creating environments where athletes feel supported, I hope to promote healing in both body and mind. In addition to my academic and athletic pursuits, I am actively involved in my community. I mentor youth athletes, helping them improve their softball skills and build confidence. I also volunteer at Wise Medical Staffing, assisting with office duties and gaining insight into the healthcare field. As a member of the MADE Free Club, I participate in efforts to promote a drug-free lifestyle among students. The MADE rally, which I attended, united over 3,000 students in a shared commitment to a drug-free future, and it was inspiring to see young people come together for such a positive cause. As I continue my education and career path, I am committed to using my experiences to make a positive impact on others. My struggles have taught me how important it is to support individuals through their challenges. Whether in my future role as an athletic trainer or in other areas, I want to create safe and supportive environments where people can heal and grow. My goal is to help others build resilience, overcome obstacles, and find strength—both physically and emotionally.
    Chi Changemaker Scholarship
One of the most impactful initiatives I’ve had the privilege to be a part of is the MADE (Making a Difference Everyday) rally, which unites over 3,000 high school students in our shared commitment to building a drug-free future. This event, and the program it represents, focuses on changing the mindset of today’s youth to ensure a healthier tomorrow. The drug epidemic is a critical issue, and while it can’t be solved overnight, I believe transforming the mentality of a generation will have a lasting impact on our community. The MADE program aims to prevent drug abuse by educating and motivating students to stay drug-free. It offers random drug testing and rewards students who choose to live drug-free. The program doesn’t sugarcoat the truth—it shows students the harsh realities of drug use, helping them understand the consequences. It encourages personal responsibility while also providing support for students who need it. By creating a space where young people are motivated and rewarded for making positive choices, the program encourages change for the future. What motivates me most is knowing that the MADE program is a lifeline for many students. For some, staying drug-free is a personal choice, but for others, it’s about finding a reason to say no to drugs. The program gives them that reason. It rewards those already living drug-free, inspires others to join them, and for some, it offers the necessary support to break free from addiction. The progress we’ve made is inspiring, as more students are choosing to live drug-free every year. This isn’t just about numbers; it’s about real, positive change in the lives of young people. Being a part of this initiative has been incredibly rewarding. I’ve worked alongside my peers to support and grow the program, and witnessing it grow has been fulfilling. It’s been a challenge, but watching the community come together for such an important cause has been amazing. We’re creating a stronger, healthier community, and I’m proud to be part of that. Looking ahead, I hope to see even more students and families join this movement. I want the program to reach more young people, offering them the tools they need to make better choices. With continued empowerment and support, we can continue to change our town and inspire others to do the same.
    Elizabeth Schalk Memorial Scholarship
One of the biggest challenges I faced in my life occurred during high school, when I struggled with anxiety, bullying, and a deep sense of isolation. Walking through the halls each day felt like an emotional battle. I was frequently subjected to cruel taunts and harassment, and the weight of my anxiety became unbearable at times. I often begged my mom to let me stay home to avoid the pain and embarrassment. This experience of being misunderstood and unsupported shaped me in ways I never expected. It left me feeling isolated, but it also helped me develop resilience, empathy, and a sense of inner strength. While I couldn’t control how others treated me, I could control my response and how I chose to grow from that adversity. These struggles sparked a passion in me to help others who face similar challenges. I realized that creating spaces where people feel safe, heard, and supported is crucial for their mental and emotional well-being. This desire to help others is what ultimately led me to pursue a career in healthcare, particularly in kinesiology and exercise science. I learned firsthand how physical activity—like lifting weights in the gym—could provide mental and emotional relief, becoming a sanctuary for me during some of my darkest moments. It taught me that physical and mental health are deeply interconnected, and I became determined to help others heal in both aspects. The challenges I faced have also shaped my outlook on education. I’ve come to understand that learning is not just about academics; it’s about understanding people, their struggles, and how to support them. Education, for me, has become a tool for personal growth and transformation. I am committed to using my education in kinesiology to positively impact my community as an athletic trainer. I want to advocate for a more holistic approach to rehabilitation, where mental health is given as much attention as physical recovery. My experiences with anxiety and bullying have influenced the way I approach challenges in both my personal life and my education. They’ve taught me the importance of perseverance, empathy, and resilience—qualities I will carry with me as I continue my academic journey. College represents an opportunity to continue learning, both about my chosen field and how I can use my knowledge to make a meaningful impact. I’m excited to apply what I’ve learned through my own struggles to help others, creating environments where they can heal, grow, and find strength—just as I did.
    Dr. Michael Paglia Scholarship
I have chosen to pursue a degree in exercise science and kinesiology because of the profound impact that physical activity has had on my life, both mentally and physically. Throughout high school, I faced daily bullying and harassment, which led to anxiety that often made going to school unbearable. I struggled with feelings of isolation, and during those difficult years, I found refuge in the gym. It was through exercise that I discovered how physical activity could help heal mental and emotional pain, giving me a sense of control over my circumstances and offering a healthy outlet for my anxiety. This personal journey led me to realize how interconnected mental health and physical health truly are. I became passionate about helping others overcome both physical and emotional challenges, and this desire has shaped my career aspirations. As I trained in powerlifting and built physical strength, I also gained emotional strength, learning discipline, perseverance, and resilience. These qualities have shaped the way I approach both fitness and life, and I now want to use this understanding to help others through athletic training. Being an athletic trainer offers the unique opportunity to support individuals not only through physical recovery but also through the emotional aspects of rehabilitation. I’ve learned that injuries are not just physical setbacks; they also carry mental challenges. As I pursue my degree in kinesiology, I want to develop a holistic approach to healing that recognizes the importance of emotional well-being alongside physical recovery. My goal is to create an environment where athletes feel supported and empowered to return to their activities with strength and confidence. In addition to my athletic pursuits, I’ve found purpose and guidance in my faith, joining a church community and being baptized. This spiritual journey has reinforced my belief in the power of compassion, support, and understanding—values I aim to carry into my career as an athletic trainer. I want to be the person who provides not only physical care but also emotional support to help others thrive. Ultimately, my life experiences have uniquely prepared me for a career in healthcare. I’ve learned the importance of empathy, resilience, and advocacy, and these lessons will guide me as I pursue a degree in kinesiology and become an athletic trainer. I’m excited to use my education to help others overcome their challenges, providing the same care and compassion that I once needed. My goal is to create spaces where individuals can heal and grow, both physically and mentally.

Throughout my high school years, sports have played a central role in shaping who I am. I’ve been a dedicated softball player for all four years, but it was when I joined the powerlifting team that I truly found my strength, both physically and emotionally. Making it to the state level in powerlifting is one of my proudest accomplishments, as it represents much more than physical endurance. It’s a symbol of the emotional strength I’ve built over the years and how far I’ve come from the person I used to be. The discipline, persistence, and mental toughness I’ve developed through powerlifting have influenced how I approach not only my fitness but also my life. Beyond athletics, high school was also a time of personal struggle. I dealt with bullying and harassment on a daily basis, and it often felt like walking through the halls was unbearable. Anxiety became a constant companion, and I frequently begged my mom to let me stay home to avoid the emotional pain caused by the taunts and laughter. Despite the challenges, I realized that I had the power to control my reaction to these circumstances. Exercise, particularly weightlifting, became my refuge. It gave me a way to cope with the overwhelming emotions I felt and helped me build not just physical strength, but mental resilience as well. This journey, through both physical and emotional challenges, has shaped my desire to pursue a career in healthcare, specifically in kinesiology and exercise science. I want to become an athletic trainer, someone who can help athletes recover physically from injuries, but also support them emotionally as they work through the mental barriers that often accompany physical setbacks. I have learned firsthand how mental health is just as important as physical health. Exercise has been my tool for healing, and I want to share that with others, helping them overcome both the physical and emotional struggles they face. Outside of sports, I’ve found a great sense of belonging and purpose in my church community. I recently got baptized, and my faith has helped me through some of my toughest moments. My church family has been a source of support and encouragement, and their kindness has taught me the importance of compassion and building meaningful relationships. This spiritual journey has not only shaped my outlook on life but has also reinforced my desire to create positive, supportive environments for others. As I prepare to continue my education in exercise science/ kinesiology, I am excited to use the lessons I’ve learned through sports, faith, and my personal struggles to make a meaningful impact. I plan to pursue a career that combines my passion for helping others with my interest in physical health and well-being. I hope to use my education to create spaces where others feel seen, heard, and supported, helping them find strength both physically and mentally.

    Social Anxiety Step Forward Scholarship
As a senior, balancing college coursework and reflecting on my past, I realize how much my life experiences have shaped my desire to pursue a career in healthcare, particularly in kinesiology and exercise science. My journey has not been easy, but it has ignited my passion to become an athletic trainer and advocate for others who face challenges similar to mine. High school was difficult. I dealt with daily bullying and harassment, which made walking through the halls unbearable. Anxiety became my constant companion, often leading me to beg my mom to let me stay home just to avoid the taunts and laughter. This anxiety was overwhelming, and it created a sense of isolation, yet it also instilled in me an understanding of resilience and empathy. Despite lacking the support I needed back then, these struggles fueled my desire to help others, particularly those in environments where they feel unsupported or misunderstood. The way anxiety shaped my high school years has influenced my desire to create spaces where others feel safe and supported, a foundation for my future work as an athletic trainer. The gym, however, became my sanctuary—a place where I could escape the emotional turbulence. It was through exercise that I first understood how physical activity could heal mental and emotional pain. The physical strength I built through my workouts provided not only relief from my anxiety but also a sense of control over my circumstances. I joined my school’s powerlifting team, and as I approach my goal of competing at the state level, I realize that my journey in powerlifting isn’t just about physical endurance; it's about emotional strength and overcoming the mental barriers that once held me back. The discipline and persistence powerlifting taught me have influenced how I approach both my fitness and my life. These personal experiences—dealing with anxiety, learning to cope with challenges, and developing resilience—have made me deeply passionate about helping others who struggle with their mental and physical well-being. I understand the importance of empathy and how powerful it is to feel seen and heard in the midst of hardship. I am determined to foster environments where people feel valued and supported, which has led me to pursue kinesiology and a career in athletic training. The connection between physical health and mental well-being became increasingly clear to me as I navigated these personal struggles. Through my academic and athletic journey, I’ve come to realize that rehabilitation and healing go beyond physical recovery. Mental health is just as important, and an injury is not just a physical setback but also a mental challenge. This understanding drives my desire to work as an athletic trainer—helping athletes recover not only physically but emotionally, ensuring they return to their activities with confidence and strength. My life experiences have uniquely prepared me for a career in healthcare. I’ve learned the importance of compassion, listening, and advocating for others. These lessons will guide me as I pursue a degree in kinesiology and a career in athletic training. College represents a fresh start—a chance to forge new connections, pursue a meaningful career, and continue my journey of healing and growth. I’m excited to use the skills I’ve gained through my own struggles to help others overcome their obstacles. It’s not just about mastering kinesiology; it’s about ensuring others receive the same care and compassion I once needed. I want to be the person who helps others heal, grow, and find strength—both physically and mentally.

am proud to stand alongside my peers and others at the MADE rally, a gathering that unites over 3,000 high school students in our shared commitment to a brighter, drug-free future. This event, and the program it represents, are dedicated to changing the mindset of today’s youth to ensure a better tomorrow. The drug epidemic, which we can no longer ignore in the face of countless reports of overdoses and abuse, cannot be solved overnight. It won’t change in months or even a year. But it can be transformed in a generation. While law enforcement tirelessly works to reduce the effects of the problem today, the MADE program focuses on eradicating it for tomorrow. The program motivates students to stay drug-free by offering incentives, and the results are evident: we’re seeing increasing numbers of high school students choosing to live drug-free. Students who enter the program submit to drug testing, and random testing continues throughout the school year. This program doesn’t sugarcoat anything—it shows students the harsh reality of what drugs can do. The evidence is right in front of us. Change is essential. The MADE program gives students a chance—a lifeline. For many, staying drug-free is a matter of personal choice. But for others, it’s about finding an opportunity, a reason, to walk away from drugs. This program rewards those who are already living drug-free, encourages others to make the choice, and, for some, it provides the support they need to break free. The progress we’ve made through this program is nothing short of inspiring. When it first began, participation and success rates were low, but today, we’re seeing more students than ever make the decision to stay drug-free. And it’s not just about numbers—it’s about real change in our community. This cause is personal to me. Working with my fellow students to launch and support this initiative was challenging, but watching it grow and witnessing the entire community come together to support it is incredibly rewarding. Together, we are taking our town back. We’re making a difference today, and we’re setting the stage for a better tomorrow. Changes are being MADE. Through the power of this program, we are empowered. As we continue to work towards a drug-free future, I hope to see even more students and families join this movement, and I envision our community becoming a beacon of hope for others who face similar challenges. If we can continue to empower young people and provide them with the tools they need to make positive choices, we’ll not only change our town—we’ll change the world.

    Empower Her Scholarship
As a senior in high school balancing college coursework, I’ve reflected on how my life experiences have shaped my desire to pursue a career in healthcare, particularly in kinesiology and exercise science. Empowerment, for me, is more than just taking control—it’s about rising above challenges, learning from them, and using that strength to help others. This belief has fueled my passion to become an athletic trainer, guiding others through their own struggles as I have learned to guide myself. High school was challenging for me. I faced constant bullying and harassment, and there were days when walking through the halls felt unbearable. The anxiety was overwhelming, and I often begged my mom to let me stay home. But as painful as those experiences were, they taught me resilience. I learned to push through the fear, and with each day, I grew stronger. I didn’t always have the support I needed, but I discovered an inner strength that helped me survive and keep moving forward. It was during this time that I discovered the power of the gym. The gym became my outlet, helping me both physically and mentally. Exercise gave me a way to release my emotions, and the discipline required in the gym helped me build confidence. This led me to join my school’s powerlifting team, an experience that changed my life. I’m proud to say I’m heading to state, and this achievement represents not just physical strength but mental and emotional growth. Powerlifting taught me persistence, hard work, and how to overcome obstacles—lessons that have shaped my approach to both fitness and life. Through these experiences, I’ve come to understand that empowerment isn’t just about individual strength—it’s about lifting others up. During my struggles, I didn’t always feel heard or understood. I knew that when I had the chance, I would help others who felt the way I did. Empowerment comes from creating safe, supportive spaces where people can heal and grow, especially those dealing with mental and emotional challenges. By offering kindness, care, and respect, we help others find their own strength. My love for fitness and the way it empowered me to heal naturally led me to kinesiology. As I pursue a career in athletic training, I want to create empowering environments for athletes—places where they can feel supported as they recover and return to their active lives. Physical health and mental well-being are deeply connected, and I’ve seen how improving someone’s physical health can positively affect their mental health. My goal is not just to help people recover but to empower them to overcome obstacles and regain their confidence. Looking back, I realize that my journey has been about more than surviving challenges—it’s been about learning how to empower myself and others. The lessons of resilience, compassion, and empathy I learned through my struggles have shaped me into the person I am today. I want to use these lessons in my career to create a positive impact on others’ lives, empowering them to heal and grow. Empowerment, to me, means using strength to rise above adversity and help others do the same. It’s about creating a space where people feel heard, supported, and encouraged. My life experiences have shaped my desire to work in healthcare, and I’m excited to use what I’ve learned to empower those I help as an athletic trainer.
    Success Beyond Borders
Movie Title: "Strength Within" The screen opens to the soft glow of early morning light, the quiet of dawn filling the room. The gentle buzz of an alarm clock pierces the silence. Cut to: you lying in bed, eyes wide open but not yet ready to rise. Your hand reaches for the snooze button, and the camera zooms in on your face. Tired, anxious, but resolute. It’s not just the weight of another school day that hangs over you—it’s everything that comes with it: the whispers, the stares, the laughter. The things that never left the hallways of high school. You close your eyes, but the noise is always there, even when it’s silent. Your anxiety is palpable, and for a moment, it feels too heavy to bear. You sit up, feet hitting the floor with a soft thud. You don’t want to face the day. You’d rather pull the covers back over your head and forget. But you don’t. Instead, you take a breath. One step forward. You look at the door, pause. Hesitate. You want to stay home, to avoid the faces and voices that have haunted you for so long. But you don’t give in. Slowly, you stand, moving toward the bathroom. You look in the mirror, seeing the tiredness in your eyes, the weight of another day ahead. The camera lingers on your reflection for a long moment—this is the face of someone who has faced too much and is still standing. You’re not just surviving anymore. You’re becoming someone stronger. The gym. The camera shifts abruptly, a sharp contrast to the quiet of the morning. The gym is alive with the sound of weights clanking, a rhythmic pulse that seems to match the steady beat of your heart. This is where you are in control. You step onto the floor, the sound of your shoes on the polished floor echoing. The camera follows your every move, catching the determination in your eyes, the grip you have on the barbell, the steady exhale as you push yourself to lift more, push harder. With every rep, the camera cuts to flashes of high school—the hallways, the sneers, the feeling of walking alone. Each shot a reminder of the past you’ve worked so hard to leave behind. But here, in this space, the world is different. In the gym, there are no labels, no judgment—just you and the weights. And as your body strains, each lift becomes not just a physical challenge, but a mental one. You’re fighting the past, but also building something new—a strength that goes beyond muscle. The camera alternates between the grueling process of lifting, the sweat running down your face, and brief glimpses of your high school life—those moments that used to define you. But as you push forward, there’s a transformation happening. The flashes of the bullying and isolation start to fade as the gym becomes a sanctuary, a place of power and personal growth. Each lift becomes a metaphor for your journey. You start with the struggle, but you end with triumph. The camera catches your breathless face as you finish your set, your muscles shaking but your spirit unbroken. You step back, sweat dripping down your neck, and look at the weights you just conquered. You’ve done it. Again. Now, the camera shifts to a close-up of your face. You approach the mirror, your reflection staring back at you. You pause, looking at yourself—this time with a new perspective. It’s not just the physical transformation, though it’s real. It’s the way you see yourself now—stronger, more confident, more certain. You are no longer the person who hides from the challenges. You are someone who has fought for this moment. You are someone who has learned to be resilient. The music swells as you take one last look at your reflection, your face full of quiet pride. You’ve become someone who doesn’t just survive adversity but actively embraces it and uses it to grow. The gym is your battlefield, but it’s also where you find the power to heal. And now, you’re ready to take that strength out into the world. The screen fades to black as the title "Strength Within" appears in bold letters. The music hits a triumphant note, symbolizing not just the physical journey, but the emotional and mental transformation that lies at the heart of your story. This isn’t just the beginning of a journey toward athletic success—it’s the start of something bigger. A journey where every rep, every set, every day is a step toward a future where you can help others find their strength. You’re not just learning to lift weights; you’re learning how to lift others up. The camera pulls back, revealing a future full of possibilities—healing, growth, and empowerment.

Being a senior, in school and handling college courses has led me to think about my experiences so far. The good and the bad. Although I'm getting the hang of my academic workload bit by bit navigating the social aspects continues to be a bit of a challenge, for me. My high school days weren't easy at all, I had to deal with bullying and harassment making each day seem like a battle. There were mornings when just the thought of going to school was daunting. I'd plead with my mom to let me skip a day. Strolling down the Halls feeling alone seemed made my anxiety worse, all I could hear was laughter and teasing filled the air around me. These challenging events have influenced my character in many ways. I understand the importance of being strong and compassionate, towards others. While not all memories these memories have brought me joy. They have motivated me to prioritize kindness and cultivate connections. I am committed to focusing on joyful experiences and embracing a brighter perspective, for the future. College represents a new beginning for me. A chance to make friends and establish meaningful relationships that matter to me deeply. I am looking forward to embarking on a career in healthcare because of my love, for fitness and my sincere wish to support others in need. Having not received the help I needed during this challenging time has lit a fire under me and I’m more determined than ever to create a more positive environment. This has taught me the significance of fostering a space where patients feel cared for and heard. Looking back, it's pretty wild how much those life lessons have shaped me. They've really given me a toolkit that I think will set me up for an awesome future. As I'm about to dive into this whole new healthcare world, I'm pumped to take all these experiences with me. I'm not just excited about becoming a pro in the field, you know? I really want to be someone who speaks up for people who need it. It's like, I've got this fire in my belly to make a real difference in people's lives. I want to create this vibe where everyone around me feels like they matter. High school was a real eye-opener. It really hammered home how crucial it is to stand up for others and spread some kindness around. Now, I'm ready to pour my heart and soul into making a real impact on people's lives. It's kind of scary, but in a good way, you know? I've got all this passion and I've learned how to bounce back from tough times. My pappy played a significant role in my life. He loved all his grandkids and was our number one supporter and biggest cheerleader. He never missed a softball game, always present in the stands, with six granddaughters, he was proud of each of us. Despite his love, my pappy faced numerous health challenges. He struggled with his heart for as long as I can remember, forced into early disability because his heart couldn’t sustain a regular job. He had a pacemaker since his twenties and later required a defibrillator. These medical interventions were part of his complex health struggles, which also included diabetes and liver disease. Watching his health decline was heartbreaking, especially since he hadn’t always taken the best care of himself. It wasn’t until later in life that he began to take his doctor’s advice seriously. He started dieting, making healthier food choices, and going for walks. However, those walks often left him tired and winded. Swimming became his passion; my parents even installed a pool just so he could exercise comfortably. Despite his efforts, his heart continued to fail, functioning at only 20%, and fluid retention became a recurring issue. He frequently needed hospitalization to drain excess fluids, but each visit weakened both his kidneys and heart further. Eventually, doctors could do little more than make him comfortable. Seeing my pappy suffer was emotionally challenging, not just for me but especially for my mom, who was losing her father. I lost my pappy in October of 2019, a moment that marked a profound shift in my life. Yet, I grew from the experiences I shared with him. It was a mentally challenging time, but I felt his spirit guiding me. I often imagine him whispering, urging me to push forward: “Go Jaiden, go Jaiden, you got this.” In honor of my pappy, I committed to living a healthier lifestyle. I began going to the gym regularly, lifting weights and running. I focused on eating fresh foods and maintaining a high-protein diet, recognizing that my physical health was linked to my mental well-being. As I transformed my habits, I even inspired my parents to try foods they wouldn’t have considered before. My pappy’s journey taught me valuable lessons about resilience and the importance of health. His unwavering support continues to motivate me, fueling my determination to live a life that honors his memory. The challenges he faced have become a catalyst for my own growth, reinforcing the belief that even in the face of adversity, we can find strength and purpose. By embracing a healthier lifestyle, I not only pay tribute to my pappy but also strive to make the most of the life he inspired me to lead.

I'm ready to put it all to use and hopefully leave things a little better than I found them.
