Growing up in a single-parent household, with my mom battling an incurable form of cancer for the past four years, has shaped me in ways that have made me resilient, determined, and passionate about pursuing my dreams. Watching my mom fight through so much adversity has been a constant source of inspiration, driving me to make the most of every opportunity and use my talents to create something meaningful. This experience has also made me realize how important it is to push through challenges, which is why I’ve decided to pursue a degree in Computer Game Design and Development, with a minor in film.
What makes me stand out is my unique combination of technical interests and creative passion. I’ve been fascinated by video games from a young age—not just playing them, but understanding how they work and how they’re built. Games have always been an outlet for me, especially during difficult times, and they’ve given me the motivation to create experiences that can help others, too. At the same time, I’ve developed a deep love for film, particularly storytelling and visual arts. Merging these two fields gives me the chance to craft interactive experiences that are not only fun but also emotionally engaging and impactful.

One of the most meaningful community events I participated in was the Taylormade Cares Food Drive, which I helped lead. This event wasn’t just about collecting canned goods or filling boxes, it was about bringing people together to fight food insecurity in our backyard. Before being involved, I never fully grasped how many families in my community struggle to put food on the table. Seeing that reality up close changed me.
When we first started organizing, I wasn’t sure how much of an impact we could make. But as donations poured in and volunteers showed up ready to work, I saw firsthand how powerful a united community could be. Sorting through the food, packing bags, and handing them to families who truly needed them made every hour of planning worth it. The gratitude in their eyes, the relief in their smiles, it was something I’ll never forget.
Beyond just providing meals, this event opened conversations about hunger in our area. Many people assume food insecurity is a distant problem, but it’s happening in our neighborhoods, in our schools, and even to people we know. That realization pushed me to want to do more.
As a result of this event, I hope to see more awareness and action surrounding hunger in my community. Food drives are important, but long-term solutions like community gardens, better access to fresh produce, and expanded assistance programs would make an even greater impact. I also hope more young people get involved in service projects like this one. When we take action, we don’t just help others, we grow as individuals, too.
This experience showed me that small efforts can lead to big change. It made me passionate about using my skills to help others, and I know that no matter where life takes me, I’ll always carry that lesson forward. Whether it’s through future volunteer work, my career, or simply advocating for those in need, I want to be part of creating a world where no one has to wonder where their next meal is coming from. This event wasn’t just a one-time effort; it was the spark that ignited my commitment to making a lasting impact in my community and beyond. I believe that real change starts with small actions, and this experience proved to me that kindness and determination can go a long way. I hope to inspire others to take action, whether by donating, volunteering, or simply spreading awareness. If we continue working together, we can build a future where no one is left behind, and that’s a future worth striving for.
Theresa Lord Future Leader Scholarship
I come from a family where hard work, dedication, and love for our heritage run deep. My mother, father, and grandmothers are all Jamaicans, and my grandfather was Crucian from St. Croix, VI. They have instilled in me a strong sense of pride in our culture, while also encouraging me to always aim higher and never settle for less than my best. From an early age, I was taught that education was one of the most powerful tools I could use to shape my future, and it became clear to me that I wanted to pursue a career in Video Game Design and Development. The art of creating worlds that others can explore and interact with has always fascinated me, and I knew that I wanted to make a career out of it.
One of the most important milestones in my family's life has been my grandmother. She has always placed a strong emphasis on family and the importance of celebrating each other’s accomplishments. One of the things she held dear was attending the graduations of all her children and grandchildren. It was a milestone she wanted to witness, and she made sure to be there, cheering us on with the pride only a grandmother can have. Her love and support have been constant throughout my life, and her dedication to ensuring that her family continues to move forward and succeed is something I carry with me as I approach my own graduation.
As a senior in high school, I've had to navigate my way through many challenges. The biggest obstacle I’ve faced came when my mother was diagnosed with cancer. It was a devastating moment for me, as I watched someone so strong and vibrant be taken by this illness. At the same time, my grandfather’s health also declined rapidly, and within months, we lost him. These two losses were the hardest thing I’ve had to endure, but they also taught me valuable lessons. I learned the importance of resilience and perseverance, not just in the face of adversity, but also in honoring the memory of those we love. It’s easy to be distracted by the weight of life’s challenges, but through these experiences, I learned how to stay focused on my goals, even when it felt impossible.
This scholarship aligns perfectly with my ambitions because it focuses on supporting students of African American and Caribbean descent, like myself. It is a reminder that our communities, which often face unique challenges, have a right to pursue their dreams with the same opportunities as anyone else. My goal is to attend college in August and pursue a degree in Game Design and Development, where I can sharpen my skills and eventually work in the gaming industry. I want to use my creativity to bring new and exciting ideas to life and to create spaces where people from all backgrounds can come together and enjoy the art of gaming.
What this experience has taught me is that obstacles don’t define us, they shape us. We may face setbacks, but it’s our determination, our vision, and our will to keep moving forward that truly matter. As Caribbeans say… Walk good and nuff respect.
Lyndsey Scott Coding+ Scholarship
As a high school senior with dreams of becoming a video game designer, I’m passionate about using technology to create immersive worlds that challenge and inspire people. My goal in computer science is to develop cutting-edge video games that blend technology, storytelling, and art in ways that make people think, feel, and connect. I’m fascinated by how coding can bring stories to life, create interactive environments, and give players agency in the worlds we create. But what really excites me about the future of computer science, especially in game development, is the opportunity to push the boundaries of what is possible, combining technical skills with creativity to make something truly unique.
Beyond my love for video games and coding, I also have a strong passion for art. For as long as I can remember, I’ve enjoyed drawing and designing characters, settings, and concepts. I’ve always found myself drawn to the way visuals can enhance storytelling and immerse audiences in a fictional world. Whether it’s designing a futuristic cityscape or sketching a character that will eventually come to life in a game, art is something that complements my love for technology and provides me with an outlet for creativity. I believe that to be successful in game design, one must combine both the logical and the creative, and that’s why I’m focused on building a strong foundation in both computer science and art.
Another key part of my future vision is using video games as a medium to address important social issues. I am especially interested in making games that explore topics like inclusivity and diversity. I think that video games are a powerful tool for education and awareness. Through interactive narratives and character-driven stories, games can engage players in conversations about difficult topics in a way that feels personal and impactful. Too often, marginalized communities are either underrepresented or misrepresented in the gaming world, and I want to use my position as a future game designer to change that. By creating diverse characters and complex, meaningful narratives, I hope to not only entertain but also foster empathy and understanding among players from all walks of life.
In the future, I see a clear path where I can combine my technical skills in computer science with my creative passion for art to create games that are not only fun but also thought-provoking and socially impactful. I plan to major in computer science with a focus on game development, and I’ve already started taking courses in coding and game design. I’m also continuing to develop my artistic skills through digital art classes. After graduation, I aim to work for a game studio where I can contribute to both the technical development and the creative direction of games, helping to create experiences that challenge traditional norms and provide players with a deeper connection to the worlds they explore. Ultimately, I hope to use my skills to make a lasting impact on the gaming industry and on society as a whole.
Overcoming Adversity - Jack Terry Memorial Scholarship
Jack Terry’s story is one of resilience, determination, and hope. After losing his entire family in the Holocaust and surviving unimaginable horrors, he came to the U.S. alone, without knowing the language or having a formal education. Yet, he refused to let his past define him. Instead, he worked hard, pursued his education, and dedicated his life to helping others. His story inspires me because it proves that no matter how difficult life gets, we have the power to push forward and create something meaningful.
I have faced my own challenges that have shaped me into the person I am today. My mother was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, an incurable form of cancer, and not long after, my grandfather was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. Within two months, I lost him. It was one of the hardest times of my life. I had to balance my grief with school, responsibilities, and the fear of losing my mother too. Watching her fight every day while staying strong for our family taught me what true resilience looks like.
Through it all, I stayed focused on my education and my passion for creativity. I found comfort in art, video game design, and storytelling—using them as a way to express myself and process everything I was going through. I also became more involved in my community, assisted in leading food drives that opened my eyes to the struggles many families face. It made me realize that I want to use my talents to make a difference.
I plan to pursue a career in video game design, but not just to entertain. I want to create games that tell powerful stories, inspire empathy, and bring awareness to real-world issues. I believe games can be more than just an escape; they can be a way to connect people, share experiences, and spark change. Just like Jack Terry used his story to educate and inspire, I want to use my work to do the same every day.
Receiving this scholarship would not only help me achieve my goals but also allow me to give back, just as Jack Terry did. Giving back gives me a sense of accomplishment, gratitude, peace, happiness, and harmony all wrapped up into one. His life shows that even in the face of hardship, we can rise above, chase our dreams, and help others along the way. That’s exactly what I intend to do.
Mark Green Memorial Scholarship
My name is Jaeden, and I am a senior at Dunwoody High School with a passion for creativity, storytelling, and video game design. Ever since I was young, I have been fascinated by the way video games can transport players into different worlds, allowing them to experience stories in a way that no other medium can. Over the years, I’ve dedicated myself to learning game design, character development, and digital storytelling, constantly pushing myself to create experiences that are engaging, meaningful, and thought-provoking.
But my passion extends beyond just making games—I want to use my creativity to make a difference. Through my high school experience, I’ve realized that games are more than just entertainment; they have the power to educate, inspire, and bring attention to real-world issues. That’s why I’ve made it my goal to develop games that address important topics like food insecurity, environmental sustainability, and social justice. I believe interactive storytelling can spark conversations and create lasting change, and I want to be at the forefront of that movement.
Outside of game design, I’ve also been deeply involved in community service. One of the most impactful experiences I’ve had was assisting in leading food drives through the Taylormade Cares Organization. Seeing the direct impact of food insecurity in my own community was eye-opening, and it solidified my commitment to using my talents for a greater purpose. Whether through hands-on service or the games I create, I want to continue making a difference in people’s lives.
I also know that pursuing a career in game design requires not just creativity but also dedication, perseverance, and a willingness to learn and grow. I’ve spent years refining my skills, taking on challenging projects, and pushing myself to improve with each design. But I also understand that my education will play a crucial role in shaping my future and giving me the tools I need to bring my ideas to life.
This scholarship would be an invaluable opportunity for me to take the next step toward my dream. It would allow me to further my education in game design and development, equipping me with the skills and knowledge to turn my ideas into reality. More importantly, it would give me the chance to continue blending creativity with purpose. To design games that not only entertain but also inspire action and awareness. I am excited about the future and the ways I can contribute to both the gaming industry and my community. With this scholarship, I will be one step closer to creating experiences that leave a lasting impact. Thank you for your consideration.
Burke Brown Scholarship
Georgia has given me a lot of educational opportunities that have helped shape my academic journey and future goals. Attending Dunwoody High School has my allowed colleagues as well as myself the opportunities to take AP and dual enrollment classes, which have prepared us for college-level work. I also had the opportunity to attend, SCAD’s Rising Star program over the summer, where I took college courses in game design. These experiences have helped me grow as a student and confirmed my passion for video game development. However, I’ve also seen areas where education in Georgia could be improved so that all students have the same opportunities to succeed.
One big issue is the lack of resources in some schools. Not every school has access to advanced classes, up-to-date technology, or extracurricular activities that help students explore their interests. To fix this, the state should provide more funding to underfunded schools so every student has access to the same opportunities, no matter where they live. Money could be reallocated through tax grants to make sure all schools get the support they need. Another problem is the lack of career-focused education. Schools focus a lot on preparing students for college, but not every student wants to take that path. More vocational programs should be available for students who want to go into trade fields like mechanics, healthcare, or technology. Schools could work with local businesses and technical colleges to provide internships, certifications, and hands-on learning experiences.
Mental health support is also something that needs improvement. Many students struggle with stress, anxiety, or personal challenges, but there aren’t enough counselors to help. Schools should hire more counselors and include mental health education in classes so students learn how to manage stress and seek help when needed. Peer support groups and mental health workshops could also make a big difference.
To make these changes happen, I would encourage student-led meetings with school boards to push for better funding and programs. Partnering with local businesses could also bring in more awareness and resources. As someone who wants to be a game designer, I hope to one day create educational tools that make learning more engaging and accessible for students. Investing in education means investing in the future, and these changes could help students for generations to come. By improving funding, career education, and mental health resources, Georgia can make sure every student has the tools they need to succeed, no matter what path they choose.

From a young age, I’ve always believed that creativity has the power to change the world. Whether it’s through storytelling, art, or technology, the ability to create something that resonates with others is one of the most impactful ways to make a difference. As an aspiring video game designer, I want to use my passion to craft great experiences that do more than entertain. They should challenge perspectives, have conversations, and bring people together.
Video games are often seen as just a form of escapism, but to me, they’re so much more. They allow players to step into different lives, explore new cultures, and experience emotions from perspectives they may have never considered. A well-designed game can build empathy, raise awareness about real-world issues, and create a sense of connection across communities. After college, I plan to develop games that highlight underrepresented voices, tell meaningful stories, and provide players with experiences that make them think. Whether it’s a game that explores mental health, environmental issues, or the struggles of marginalized groups, I want my work to leave a lasting impact on those who play it.
But I don’t want to wait until after college to start making a difference. I’ve already taken steps to help my community in meaningful ways. One of my proudest moments was assisting in leading a food drive through the Taylormade Cares Organization, where I helped collect and distribute food to families in need. This experience opened my eyes to the reality of food insecurity and the struggles many people face just to put meals on the table. It showed me that even small actions can make a big impact, and it strengthened my commitment to fighting hunger and poverty, both in my local community and on a larger scale.
After college, I plan to continue giving back in any way I can. Whether it’s organizing charity events through the gaming industry, creating interactive experiences that educate and inspire, or using my skills to support nonprofit organizations, I want my work to serve a greater purpose. I believe that true success isn’t just measured by personal achievements but by the impact we have on others. No matter where my career takes me, my mission remains the same: to use creativity to make the world a better place. I want to create games that tell important stories and give people a sense of belonging. I want to be part of projects that uplift voices that are often unheard and bring awareness to the issues that matter.
At the end of the day, I believe that art, technology, and storytelling have the power to shape society in incredible ways. Through my passion for game design, my commitment to service, and my drive to create meaningful experiences, I plan to make a lasting difference, both in my community and in the world as a whole.
Our Destiny Our Future Scholarship
Growing up, I always believed that making a difference in the world meant doing something huge, like starting a charity or creating some sort of technology. But over time, I realized that impact isn’t just about big gestures. It’s about the small, everyday choices we make to help others. That lesson became clear to me when I assisted in leading food drives through the Taylormade Cares Organization.
At first, I thought it would just be another volunteer project, but as I organized donations and met families who relied on them, I saw just how many people in my own community struggle with food insecurity. It was heartbreaking, but it also fueled my passion to do more. That experience showed me that service isn’t just about helping—it’s about understanding, connecting, and being there for others when they need it most.
As I look toward my future, I know I want to use my talents to create positive change. I’ve always loved art and storytelling, which is why I’m pursuing a career in video game design and development. Video games have the power to do more than entertain—they can teach, inspire, and bring people together. I want to create games that encourage problem-solving, promote kindness, and bring awareness to real-world issues in ways that feel meaningful. I also hope to develop games that provide resources or tools for education, allowing people from different backgrounds to learn in engaging and interactive ways.
But my impact won’t stop at my career. I plan to keep serving my community by mentoring younger students, continuing to volunteer, and finding ways to give back however I can. I know firsthand how much small acts of kindness can mean to someone, and I want to be the kind of person who lifts others up, just like so many people have done for me. Whether it’s through donating my time, creating opportunities for others, or simply being a support system, I want to make sure I leave a lasting, positive mark on the world.
Receiving the Our Destiny Our Future Scholarship would not only help me continue my education, but it would also give me the chance to keep making a difference. I want to honor the legacy of those who gave selflessly to others by doing the same in my own life. No matter where my journey takes me, I will always choose compassion, service, and community, because that’s how real change happens.
Gloria Millender "I am 3rd" - J. O. Y. Scholarship
There was a time when I had the opportunity to truly live out the principle of putting Jesus first, others second, and myself third. It happened during a volunteer event through Taylormade Cares Organization where I was serving meals and offering support to those in need. Initially, I signed up simply because I knew it was the right thing to do, but by the end of the night, I realized how much deeper this experience truly was.
Before the event, I prayed and asked God to use me in whatever way He saw fit. Instead of focusing on my own comfort, I made it my goal to fully serve the people there, not just by handing out food but by listening to their stories and showing them kindness. One conversation in particular stuck with me. A man shared how he had lost everything but still held onto his faith, believing that God had a plan for him. His words humbled me, reminding me that faith isn’t about having an easy life but about trusting God through the challenges.
By putting Jesus first, I was able to serve with genuine love and compassion rather than out of obligation. Placing others second helped me realize that small actions—like a warm meal and a heartfelt conversation—can make a real difference in someone’s life. And by putting myself third, I felt a deep sense of fulfillment that no personal achievement could ever bring. It wasn’t about me; it was about showing God’s love to others.
This experience has stayed with me, shaping how I want to live in the future. No matter where life takes me, whether in my career, my relationships, or my daily interactions, I want to continue leading with faith and service. I plan to use my skills and talents to create things that inspire, uplift, and help people, whether that’s through storytelling, technology, or community outreach. Most importantly, I want to live in a way that reflects Christ’s love, always remembering that true success isn’t about what I accomplish for myself, but what I do for others in His name.
Law Family Single Parent Scholarship
Growing up in a single-parent household has shaped me in ways I never fully understood until I started thinking about my future. My mom has always been my biggest supporter, my role model, and the strongest person I know. She has worked tirelessly to provide for me and give me every opportunity possible, even when things were tough. Watching her overcome obstacles with determination has taught me that strength isn’t just about enduring challenges, it’s about turning them into motivation to push forward.
One of the most important things I’ve learned from being raised by a single parent is responsibility. I’ve seen firsthand how much effort goes into making ends meet, managing time, and ensuring everything stays on track. It’s made me more independent, more appreciative of what I have, and more driven to make a difference. I feel a deep responsibility not just to my family, but to others who might be facing similar struggles. I want to use my experiences to help people and make a positive impact, no matter what career path I choose. Whether I go into video game design, animation, or storytelling, I want to create things that matter. Video games and media have always been more than just entertainment for me, they’ve been a way to escape, to learn, and to see the world from new perspectives. I want to create those experiences for others, whether it’s through a game that inspires someone, a story that makes people think, or something that simply brings joy when it’s needed most.
Beyond entertainment, I also want to use my skills to help people in meaningful ways. Maybe that means designing games that educate, creating interactive tools that make learning more engaging, or developing stories that bring awareness to important issues. I truly believe that art and technology have the power to change lives, and I want to use them to uplift others.
In the future, I don’t just see myself as a creator. I see myself as someone who helps open doors for others. I know how much representation and encouragement matter, especially for people who might not think a creative career is possible for them. If I can be a mentor, a role model, or even just someone who inspires others to follow their dreams, then I know I’ll be on the right path.
At the end of the day, growing up in a single-parent household has given me a unique perspective, a strong sense of empathy, and a determination to succeed, not just for myself, but for the people around me. My future is still taking shape, but one thing is certain: I want to use my talents to do good, to inspire, and to help others in whatever way I can. Because to me, success isn’t just about personal achievements, it’s about the impact you leave behind.
Ryan R. Lusso Memorial Scholarship
WinnerMy mother’s 4 year battle with incurable Multiple Myeloma has been one of the most defining experiences of my life. Watching her fight this illness has changed me in ways I never expected. It’s incredibly painful to see someone you love go through something so devastating, but it has also taught me how to find strength and resilience even when the future feels uncertain. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is to truly appreciate time. Before my mother’s diagnosis, I didn’t think much about how fragile life is. Now, every moment with her feels precious, whether it’s laughing together over something small or just sitting with her, enjoying each other’s company. It’s made me realize that it’s not the big, flashy moments that matter most, but the simple ones we sometimes take for granted. I’ve learned that being there for someone, without needing to say the right thing, can mean the world.
This experience has also forced me to grow up faster than I expected. I’ve had to face tough realities, and it’s made me stronger and more focused on what truly matters. I’ve learned how to stay strong for my mom, even when I feel scared or overwhelmed. There are days when it’s really hard, but I’ve discovered that I can push through those moments. Her strength inspires me to be strong, too.
My mother’s fight has also driven me to go after my own dreams with more determination than ever. Knowing how unpredictable life can be, I’ve become more focused on making the most of every opportunity. Whether it’s working hard in school or pursuing my passion for game design, I want to make sure I’m living my life to the fullest. Seeing my mom’s courage motivates me to push through my own challenges and never take anything for granted. This has also taught me the importance of empathy and being there for others. I now understand how much small acts of kindness can mean, not only to my mother but to anyone facing a difficult situation. It’s made me more aware of the struggles others might be going through and has deepened my desire to support those in need. This experience has given me a greater sense of purpose, driving me to make a positive impact wherever I can. I’ve learned that even in the darkest times, love and support can bring light and hope.
In the end, this journey has made me a more compassionate, driven, and grateful person. It’s given me a deeper understanding of what it means to be strong and how to appreciate the love and support around me. While it’s been incredibly difficult, my mother’s battle with Multiple Myeloma has shaped me in ways I’ll carry with me forever.

Minecraft Forever Fan Scholarship
In a game as boundless as Minecraft, there’s always that one cherished activity that truly captivates a player’s imagination. For me, the most captivating part of Minecraft isn’t the thrill of battling mobs, exploring new biomes, or even the endless world generation. It’s the creative freedom to build and design anything I envision. Whether I’m crafting a towering castle, an intricate underground base, or a simple farmhouse, the process of building allows me to express my imagination in ways no other game can. This aspect of Minecraft resonates with me on a deep level because it combines the sense of freedom and creativity I love with the satisfaction of bringing an idea to life, block by block.
The sandbox nature of Minecraft gives players limitless possibilities, but for me, it’s the ability to create that stands out. I’ve always had a passion for designing and constructing things, even outside of the game. As a kid, I spent hours with LEGO bricks, piecing together buildings and worlds from my imagination. Minecraft is essentially a digital version of that, but with more complexity and limitless potential. The game’s blocky aesthetic might seem simple on the surface, but it’s like having an infinite canvas of LEGO that allows me to build anything I can dream up. It’s not just about stacking blocks either—there’s real strategy and thought that goes into creating something visually appealing and functional in the game. When I finish a project, the sense of accomplishment is unmatched, knowing that I turned an abstract idea in my head into a tangible creation that I can explore and interact with.
What makes Minecraft’s building aspect resonate with me even more is how it ties into my love for game design, which I plan to pursue in college. As someone who wants to pursue a career in video game design, I’m constantly thinking about how games are structured, how environments are created, and how players interact with those environments. In Minecraft, I get to experiment with those concepts firsthand. I think about how different materials complement each other, how light affects the mood of a space, and how I can make a structure not only visually appealing but also functional. It’s like I’m practicing real-world design principles in a virtual space, and that’s exciting for me as I work towards my future goals. The collaborative aspect of building in Minecraft also adds to its appeal. I’ve spent countless hours working on projects with friends, whether it’s constructing a sprawling city or just decorating a cozy little house together. The game fosters a sense of teamwork and shared creativity that’s hard to find elsewhere. There’s something special about seeing your friends’ ideas come to life alongside your own, and it’s a reminder of how creative collaboration can lead to incredible results. Working together in Minecraft has taught me the importance of cooperation and how blending different ideas can lead to something greater than what you could achieve alone.
In the end, Minecraft is more than just a game for me—it’s a creative outlet that allows me to explore my passion for design, problem-solving, and collaboration. The act of building resonates with me because it taps into my desire to create and share something meaningful, all while honing skills that I know will help me in the future. Whether I’m constructing a massive, detailed world or just experimenting with new design ideas, Minecraft has a special place in my heart because it’s the one place where my imagination truly feels limitless.

Facing adversity is an inevitable part of life that shapes us in ways we often only fully understand in hindsight. For me, one of the most challenging times was when my mother was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow. This diagnosis came during a period when I was already juggling the pressures of high school, extracurriculars, and my aspirations for the future. The emotional and practical impact of her illness was profound, affecting not just our family life but also my own sense of stability and focus.
Initially, the news of my mother’s diagnosis was overwhelming. I felt a deep sense of helplessness and fear, knowing that this was a battle with no easy solutions. My mother, who had always been a pillar of strength and support, was now facing a fight against an incurable disease. The weight of her illness became a constant presence in my life, challenging my ability to stay focused on my studies and extracurricular commitments.
To overcome this adversity, I had to develop new coping mechanisms and strategies for managing stress. One of the first steps was to seek support from those around me. I talked openly with my friends and teachers about what I was going through, which helped me to feel less isolated. Additionally, I learned to prioritize self-care and set boundaries to avoid burnout. I found solace in maintaining a structured routine, which provided a sense of normalcy amidst the chaos. Balancing my responsibilities with my family’s needs required careful planning, and I became adept at managing my time more effectively.
This period of adversity shaped me in significant ways. It taught me the importance of resilience and adaptability. I learned that facing challenges head-on, rather than avoiding them, is crucial for personal growth. The experience also deepened my empathy and understanding of others who face similar struggles. I became more aware of the emotional and psychological impacts of illness and adversity, which has influenced my perspective and approach to supporting others in their times of need.
If I were to offer advice to someone facing similar circumstances, I would emphasize the importance of seeking support and staying connected with others. It’s okay to lean on friends, family, and professionals for help. Finding healthy outlets for stress, such as exercise, hobbies, or creative expression, can also be beneficial. Additionally, maintaining a sense of routine and setting realistic goals can provide stability and focus. Above all, remember that resilience is not about being unaffected by adversity but about how you respond to it and continue to move forward despite the challenges. Facing adversity is never easy, but it is through these trials that we often find our greatest strengths and learn the most about ourselves.
Innovators of Color in STEM Scholarship
Why I have chosen to pursue a degree in STEM? I’ve choose to pursue a degree in Computer Game Design and Development with a minor in film is a decision that reflects my deep passion for creativity, technology, and storytelling. Ever since I was young, I’ve been fascinated by how games are built, the mechanics behind them, and the way they can immerse people in entirely new worlds. Video games combine art, technology, and problem-solving in ways that few other mediums can. Adding film as a minor complements my interest in storytelling and world-building, allowing me to craft experiences that are visually captivating and emotionally engaging.
As a person of color, pursuing a career in STEM, especially in game design and development, holds even more significance. Historically, the gaming industry and STEM fields have had a lack of diversity, and I want to be part of the movement that changes that. I hope to not only break barriers for myself but also inspire other young people of color to see that there's space for them in these industries. Representation is crucial, and I believe that by pursuing this degree, I can contribute to the growing presence of diverse voices in game design, film, and tech arena.
In the future, I want to use my skills in game design and development to create games that tell stories from unique perspectives, especially those that are often underrepresented. The ability to merge technology with storytelling through game mechanics and film techniques excites me because it opens up opportunities to create more inclusive narratives. My hope is to design games that not only entertain but also educate and bring awareness to real-world issues, especially those that affect marginalized communities. Games, like films, can be powerful tools for change, and I want to use my work to inspire empathy, love, educational and understanding.
By pursuing a degree in Computer Game Design and Development with a minor in film, I aim to combine my love for innovation, technology, and storytelling to have a lasting impact in both the gaming and film industries. As a person of color, I hope my journey in STEM will encourage others to believe in their own potential and to push the boundaries of what’s possible. I want to create experiences that not only entertain but also challenge the status quo and foster greater diversity in the world of technology and entertainment.
Raise Me Up to DO GOOD Scholarship
Growing up with a passion for video game design while watching my mom battle an incurable cancer, namely Multiple Myeloma, for the past four years has deeply impacted my perspective on life and my future goals. Her journey has been filled with countless treatments, ups and downs, and moments of uncertainty, but through it all, she’s shown me what true strength looks like. Her resilience has been a constant source of inspiration for me, and it has driven me to work harder, pursue my dreams, and use my talents to make a difference in the world. As a Caribbean parent, she is very strict when it comes to education. She always mention to me that education is my lifeline and never settle with “NO” as an answer in anything I do.
Video games have always been more than just a hobby for me—they’ve been an outlet, a way to escape and cope with the stress of my mom’s illness. Throughout the hardest moments, when things felt overwhelming, gaming provided me with a sense of control and a way to process what was happening around me. As I pursue a career in video game design, I want to create those same kinds of experiences for others, especially those going through their own struggles. I believe games have the power to inspire, heal, and connect people in ways that few other mediums can.
My ultimate goal is to design games that not only entertain but also help people deal with real-life challenges. Whether it’s creating immersive worlds where players can lose themselves or developing games that raise awareness for important causes like cancer research, I want to ensure my work has a positive impact. I’ve seen firsthand how hard it can be to stay hopeful in the face of adversity, and I want my games to offer that hope to others. Games can be more than just fun—they can be a source of comfort and strength during difficult times.
Although I don't know every step my career will take, I know my path is driven by a desire to do good. I want to use the lessons I’ve learned from my mom's battle to create something meaningful. Her strength has taught me that even in the face of something as unpredictable as cancer, we can still push forward, and that’s the energy I hope to bring into every project I take on in the future.
LeBron James Fan Scholarship
LeBron James is not just a basketball player; he’s an icon, a leader, and a source of inspiration for millions of people, including myself. As a 12th grader who has followed his career closely, I’ve seen firsthand how his influence extends far beyond the court. The reasons I’m a fan of LeBron James go beyond his incredible athleticism and basketball skills; it’s his dedication to excellence, his resilience, and his impact off the court that truly make him a role model for me and so many others.
LeBron’s journey from a young kid in Akron, Ohio, to one of the most recognized athletes in the world is nothing short of extraordinary. He came into the NBA straight out of high school with the weight of enormous expectations on his shoulders, and not only did he meet them, but he also exceeded them. Watching LeBron play is like watching poetry in motion; his ability to dominate the game with his physicality, skill, and intelligence is awe-inspiring. Whether it’s a powerful dunk, a three-pointer, or a game-changing defensive play, LeBron has consistently shown that he’s a force to be reckoned with.
However, what truly sets LeBron apart from other athletes is his work ethic and commitment to being the best version of himself. He’s constantly evolving, adding new dimensions to his game, and staying in peak physical condition year after year. This dedication is something I admire deeply, as it reminds me of the importance of hard work, discipline, and never settling for less than your best. LeBron’s longevity in the league is a testament to his discipline and passion for the game, which is something I try to emulate in my own life, whether it’s in academics, sports, or other pursuits.
LeBron’s impact extends far beyond basketball. His philanthropy and activism have made a significant difference in countless lives. The LeBron James Family Foundation, for example, has provided scholarships and educational opportunities to underprivileged children, helping to break the cycle of poverty for many families. His willingness to speak out on social issues, despite the potential backlash, shows his commitment to using his platform for good. LeBron has never been afraid to stand up for what he believes in, and that courage is something I greatly admire. In a world where it’s often easier to stay silent, LeBron’s voice has been a beacon of hope and change.
Now, the question of whether LeBron James is the greatest basketball player of all time is one that sparks endless debate. While there are many who believe that Michael Jordan holds that title, and for good reason, I believe that LeBron has made a strong case for himself as the GOAT (Greatest of All Time). LeBron’s versatility, his ability to play and excel in multiple positions, and his basketball IQ are unparalleled. But beyond the numbers, it’s the way LeBron elevates his teammates and makes those around him better that truly sets him apart.
In conclusion, I’m a fan of LeBron James not just because of his incredible talent on the basketball court, but because of the person he is off the court. His dedication, resilience, and commitment to making a positive impact on the world are qualities that I deeply respect and admire. Whether or not he’s the greatest basketball player of all time is a debate that will continue for years to come, but in my eyes, LeBron James is a legend who has forever changed the game of basketball and the world beyond it.
Dr. Soronnadi Nnaji Legacy Scholarship
Serving my community has always been important to me. One experience that really stands out is when I assisted in leading a food drive through the Taylormade Cares Organization. Before this, I knew that food insecurity was an issue, but it always felt like something that happened far away. Helping to organize and participate in this food drive changed all of that. I saw how many families in my own community struggle to get enough to eat, and it really opened my eyes.
What struck me the most was how grateful people were. It made me realize that hunger isn’t just something you hear about on the news—it’s happening right here in our neighborhoods. This experience made me more passionate about fighting hunger and poverty, and it’s something I’m committed to continuing to work on in the future. It also changed the way I see my role in the community and inspired me to use my skills to make a real difference.
As a second-generation African immigrant with 51% Nigerian DNA, my background has played a big role in shaping who I am and how I approach my education. Growing up, I saw how hard my mother worked to provide a better life for us, and that inspired me to work just as hard in school. Balancing the cultural expectations of two different worlds has been challenging at times, but it’s also given me a unique perspective and a strong drive to succeed.
My goal is to become a Video Game Designer/Developer with a minor in Film. With hard work and resilience, Im hopeful to be able to attend Savannah College Of Art and Design (SCAD) for this upcoming Fall 2025 semester. I’m passionate about merging creativity with technology, and I’m excited about the possibilities in this field. Receiving this scholarship would make a huge difference for me. It would ease the financial burden of college, allowing me to focus on my studies and take advantage of opportunities like research and internships.
This scholarship would also mean a lot to my mom, who is currently battling an incurable form of cancer, namely Multiple Myeloma. Her strength and determination inspire me every day, and this scholarship would be one step closer to achieving my goals and making her proud. Ultimately, I hope to use my education to develop innovative solutions that can make a positive impact, especially in communities that need it most.
Tim Dunham Blood Disorder Awareness Scholarship
Watching my mother battle Multiple Myeloma, a serious blood disorder, has truly impacted my life. As a 12th grader, it's hard to fully grasp everything she’s going through, but it’s opened my eyes to her incredible strength and resilience. Every day, she faces the challenges of living with this illness, from grueling treatments to the pain and exhaustion that come with it. Yet, she keeps moving forward, refusing to let the disease define her life. Seeing her fight has not only changed how I view her, but also how I see life, struggle, and the importance of staying strong for those we love.
One of the biggest realizations I’ve had is how little most people know about blood disorders like Multiple Myeloma. We often hear about common cancers, but blood disorders, even though they affect so many people, aren’t talked about as much. Watching my mother go through this has shown me just how important it is to raise awareness about these diseases. Many people don’t understand what it’s like to live with a condition like this, and even fewer know how they can support those who are affected. I want to change that.
Raising awareness about Multiple Myeloma is important to me because I’ve seen firsthand how this disease impacts not just the person suffering from it but also their family. It’s not just about the physical toll, it’s also emotional and mental. The uncertainty, the fear, and the constant need to stay strong can be overwhelming. I want others to understand this reality so that people with blood disorders and their families can receive the support they need.
One of the ways I hope to raise awareness is by sharing my mother’s story. Whether it’s through social media, school projects, or just talking to friends and classmates, I want to help educate people about what Multiple Myeloma is and how it affects people’s lives. By sharing what my mother is going through, I hope to make others more aware of blood disorders and encourage them to support research and treatment efforts.
In addition to raising awareness, I also want to get involved in formal efforts like fundraising for research. By participating in events that support blood disorder research, I can help contribute to finding better treatments and, hopefully, a cure. Ultimately, my goal is to make sure that no one going through this feels alone. My mother’s strength inspires me every day, and raising awareness for Multiple Myeloma is my way of honoring her fight and helping others who may be facing similar challenges.
