My desire to become a pediatric nurse practitioner is deeply rooted in a lifelong commitment to representation, health equity, and the kind of selfless generosity modeled by my mother. As a Black woman entering the healthcare field, I am motivated by the knowledge that representation saves lives. I want the children I treat to look at their nurse and see a reflection of themselves, proving that a career in medicine is an attainable path for them as well. Growing up in a low-income household, I understand firsthand the stress that financial instability brings to a family. I remember the weight of those challenges, and it has fueled my firm belief that a child's medical care should never be determined by their parents' economic status. This mission is inspired by my mother, who, much like the namesake of this scholarship, worked endlessly to provide for me and my siblings. Watching her sacrifice so much to ensure we had what we needed has instilled in me a deep sense of responsibility. A primary goal of my career is to support her just as she supported me, honoring her hardworking spirit by becoming a pillar of strength for my family and my community. To ensure my care is truly inclusive, I am committed to learning Spanish so that language is never a barrier to quality treatment. My ultimate goal is to open a private practice that serves low-income families who lack access to healthcare, creating a space where no child is ever turned away. Beyond my clinical goals, if I had the opportunity to create something fun to make the world a better place, I would design a community "Health and Harmony" mobile festival. This would be a vibrant, traveling event that combines free pediatric wellness checks and dental screenings with face painting, music, and healthy cooking competitions. By making healthcare feel like a celebration rather than a chore, we can break down the fear many children feel toward medical environments and build trust within underserved neighborhoods. While I am still early in my journey, my background in service has prepared me for this life of advocacy. Through my church, The Factory, I have spent significant time volunteering to provide groceries and meals to those in need. Furthermore, navigating the tragic loss of a close friend at seventeen taught me the resilience necessary to support families during their most difficult moments. By combining my personal upbringing, my dedication to service, and my professional aspirations, I intend to become a nurse who not only offers medical expertise but also embodies the generous, education-focused heart that this scholarship celebrates.

My desire to become a pediatric nurse practitioner is deeply rooted in a lifelong commitment to representation, empathy, and health equity. As a Black woman entering the healthcare field, I am motivated by the knowledge that representation saves lives. I want the children I treat to look at their nurse and see a reflection of themselves, proving that a career in medicine is an attainable and impactful path for them as well. Growing up in a low-income household myself, I understand firsthand the stress and uncertainty that financial instability can bring to a family. I remember the weight of those challenges, and it has fueled my firm belief that their parents' economic status should never determine a child's medical care. I am driven to ensure that no child is ever turned away from the high-quality help they deserve simply because of a lack of financial resources. This mission is also inspired by my own mother, who worked endlessly to provide for my siblings and me. Watching her sacrifice so much to ensure we had what we needed has instilled in me a deep sense of responsibility. One of my primary motivations for a successful career is the ability to finally take care of her, ensuring she has everything she needs, just as she always provided for us. To further my ability to provide truly inclusive and accommodating care, I am committed to learning Spanish. I want to communicate directly and effectively with a broader range of patients and their families, ensuring that language is never a barrier to quality treatment or emotional comfort. My ultimate career goal is to open my own private practice that specifically serves low-income families and those who lack traditional access to healthcare. I want to create a welcoming, safe space where every patient feels accommodated, valued, and understood, regardless of their background or bank account. While I am still early in my professional journey, my background in community service has already prepared me for a life of advocacy. Through my church, The Factory, I have spent significant time volunteering to provide groceries and hot meals to the homeless and those in need within my community. These experiences have deepened my compassion and solidified my resolve to help vulnerable populations navigate a world that often overlooks them. Additionally, I have developed a profound sense of resilience by navigating significant personal hardships, including the sudden and tragic loss of a close friend in a car accident when we were just seventeen. Overcoming such a struggle gave me the emotional strength and perspective necessary to support families during their most difficult and high-stress moments. By combining my personal upbringing, my dedication to community service, and my clear professional aspirations, I intend to become a provider who not only offers medical expertise but also serves as a pillar of support and a role model for the next generation of healthcare professionals. I want to build a career that proves healthcare is a right, not a privilege, while honoring the hardworking spirit my mother passed down to me.

Hello, my name is Jade Gillespie, and I am a homegrown Chicagoan from Illinois but residing in Canton, Georgia. I live with my mother, stepfather, and four siblings, one of whom is my fraternal twin sister. We are a close-knit family that has seen many difficulties. My educational aspirations revolve in trying to assume a degree as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Medicine has been beckoning for quite a while now, driven by an enduring passion to heal and take care of the voiceless and most forgotten about. My own desire to work here is highly personal; I wish to return to the very same communities that nurtured me when I was a child. Having come through the disadvantage of having been brought up in low-income neighborhoods myself, I have a huge responsibility to assist those who are going through any kind of unprecedented adversity. This is not a vocational desire but one which comes from a position of deep empathy and sympathy. Another strong reason is to free my mother of her concerns and financial debts so she can feel the peace of mind that she so rightfully deserves for all the years she gave to me. My mother has been my inspiration all along since the early years. She raised us single-handedly—five of us, my twin sister and myself—on a teacher's salary while living in the inner cities of Chicago, the South, West, and North sides. We took the life-changing decision in 2016 to relocate to Georgia, where our financial struggles were at their peak. Despite all these challenges, my mom still managed to make every birthday special and have Christmas gifts underneath the tree. Her strength and perseverance to provide for us and give us a better life than she had truly will thank her for throughout my life. I would like to give a moment to talk about my friend Isaiah (Zay) Jackson, who was always my comfort and devoted friend throughout my entire life. Unfortunately, Zay was taken away too soon on January 25, 2025, when he and my friend Bryce Young got into a fatal car accident. They were both just 19 and 17. This stood my world still until I realized that I must go on not only to make my mom proud but them as well. Going on this journey to becoming a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, my biggest inspirations and motivators are —my mother, Bryce, and Zay.
