My dream has always been to have a healthcare career. When I had my child, it became clear to me that nursing was the way I could positively impact the most people. My labor and delivery nurses guided me through my traumatic, emergent birth story, and I want to help other women through the hardest parts of their lives. My daughter is the most important thing in the world to me, and she is worth every penny spent on her. Those pennies are hard to come by and seldom handed out. Childcare, groceries, and living costs pile up very quickly. Many times, we have faced hardships. Sometimes I forgo eating to make sure that she can. I need this scholarship to ensure our needs are met without detracting from my studies. Currently, I am pursuing my Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. I have just one year left. I hold a 3.9 GPA despite my work schedule and hardships. With this degree, I will work as a registered nurse in labor and delivery while I continue to raise my own daughter and pursue my Master's Degree in Nursing. With my MSN, I will obtain licensure as a nurse practitioner. That title will open up a world of possibilities for me and the community I want to serve. As an NP, I can open my own clinic or low-cost practice and offer equitable health services to as many women and children as possible. I can make a real difference for other women going through situations similar to mine. Given the current state of the world, I believe that my services for women and children will be needed more than ever as our economy continues to decline, the cost of living persistently increases, with the incidence of single mothers following suit. I want to make a huge difference in the world, and it starts by obtaining my education. To do so, I need the extra support that will allow me to take care of my child and continue persevering through nursing school. I will not give up for the sake of my daughter, myself, and for those I know I will help in the future. I know that my situation is not unique, and that many other single mothers out there are in need as well. It is my hope that the person reading this shares in my vision and sees the impact that can be made.
