I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia for half of my life. For most of my childhood, my brothers were in and out of juvenile centers and never got to graduate high school. That broke my mom’s heart and gave her reason to be tough on me. Sometimes it was hard to stay motivated with the constant pressure not to fail. We later moved to my mother's hometown, Fitzgerald, Georiga. It was smaller than I was used to and I was not very happy with the move. Eventually, Fitzgerald would be my new hometown. During my years in high school, I endured numerous leadership roles such as Junior Board of Directors member, Student Council member, Technology Student Association officer, etc. I maintained a 4.0 GPA and strived to be an overachiever. Where I'm from, to make something out of myself, you have to set yourself apart from others. I made my academics and extracurriculars a part of who I am. Even though I accepted Fitzgerald, I knew I didn't want to be here forever. For people that look like me, there is an epidemic of poverty and violence. I have a drive about myself because I crave success. My eagerness set me apart from my counterparts. I didn’t have much growing up but my mom never made us feel that way. She blames the way we lived and the trauma we went through on her decision not to get an education. I made it my business to do the opposite. As I forced myself to deal with challenges, I realized I am capable of anything I put my mind to. I believe the strongest soldiers win the battle. I have learned that endurance and work ethic is all that are needed. I didn’t want to just discuss my grades, backstory or even my financial needs. However, I want to acknowledge my character through challenges. Throughout any of my personal or academic obstacles, I have always valued being level-headed, humble and kind. That is why I know my passion lies in being a pediatrician. I would love to work on trauma cases of children such as sick patients, accidental cases and mental illnesses. Not only do I think my purpose is to save lives physically but I also want to implement mental health in pediatric programs. I believe there is not enough long-terminal healing in children's hospitals and my longterm goal as a medical resident is to incorporate that into my career. As I further my education to be a doctor, I hope to maintain my character. I want to grow in this world and help others to do the same.
