Hiya, fellow scholarship searchers! As a woman in this generation, I cannot wait to go to college, become a teacher, and prove that there are more to us teenagers than sitting on our phones all day.     Sandy Jenkins Excellence in Early Childhood Education Scholarship
    When someone asks me why I would ever choose education, one word always comes to my mind: generations. I have always wanted to be a figure in people's lives that I knew would make a difference--whether big or small. When I was praying that the Lord would guide me into the profession I was meant to go in, He revealed education to me. Looking briefly at the career, it was hard to see the effect teachers have had on the world, but reflecting on a deeper level revealed the heroic measures they held and still hold. Since feeling led to become a teacher, I have had conversations with people that would end with, "I feel like you would be an elementary teacher." I took this to heart and started to learn why my soul yearned for this purpose. As unprepared as I felt in the beginning, I fell in love with the classes that guided me on how to teach life-long learners. I most definitely loved the classes that taught me more about a child’s mind and why it is so important to teach with love, care, and passion. I knew that if I were going to be a teacher, I was going to have to understand the importance of my words, actions, and thoughts. Whatever my role as a teacher, I knew that I wanted to influence the generations after me. Many people criticize and discourage Gen Z (11–26-year-olds) and the generations to come. Though I will admit that people this age (including myself) are responsible for their own actions, I believe it is important to raise hope for the future, and that starts in the mind. As an elementary teacher, I hope to spark flourishing development, understanding hearts, and inspiring leaders. I know that many of my teachers have done the exact same process, inspiring me to pass the blessing. As an educator, I hope to fill my room with love, my students with boldness, and my community with hope for what is to come. I have been told that the excitement and desire for teaching takes a “certain person,” but I accept the challenge! I am excited and honored to get to be a detail in the grand scheme of making a difference. I believe that anyone who is going into this major should know that they are impactors for people mentally and emotionally; long-term and short-term; generation through generation. I know that this scholarship will help any educator who receives it.
