    Being a first-generation college student can be a daunting experience. There are many new challenges and obstacles to overcome that may not be apparent to those who have grown up in families where higher education is the norm. However, for me, I have been fortunate enough to have a younger sister who has been a constant source of encouragement and support throughout my college journey. From a young age, my sister has always been interested in my education and the various academic pursuits that I undertake. She often asks me about my classes, homework, and tests, and motivates me to keep pushing forward. Even though she is still in high school, she has a deep appreciation for the value of education and understands the importance of setting academic goals for oneself. One of the most significant ways in which my younger sister has encouraged me is by attending my college events and ceremonies. She has come to my graduation and award ceremonies, showing her unwavering support and pride in my academic achievements. Seeing her smile and hearing her cheer for me has been a tremendous morale boost, especially when I have felt discouraged or uncertain about my path in college. In addition to her attendance at my college-related events, my sister has also been instrumental in helping me stay organized and motivated. She has gone out of her way to remind me of upcoming assignments and tests and even helped me create study schedules and flashcards. Her enthusiasm and dedication to my success have been a driving force in keeping me focused and motivated. Lastly, my younger sister has served as a role model for me in many respects. She is driven, dedicated, and committed to excelling in her own academic pursuits. Seeing her tenacity and resilience in the face of challenges has reminded me of the importance of perseverance and hard work.     The conversation surrounding gun violence in America has been a hotly debated topic for decades. Mass shootings, homicides, and suicides have become too frequent and devastating events that take place in our communities. To start any process of change, a conversation is absolutely necessary. Speech enables one to inform, educate, and move people to action. Speech can be used to bring attention to the problem through personal anecdotes, statistics, facts, and imagery to show the extent of the problem. Gun violence does not only affect those who are directly impacted but also the broader society as a whole. You can highlight how communities are torn apart from the loss of lives, and how such acts perpetuate a cycle of violence. Speech gives a voice to those who have been silenced by gun violence and can bridge the gap between those who are for or against gun control laws. Speech can also be used to advocate for change. Advocacy includes speaking up for those who can't speak for themselves and bringing change to how issues are viewed and addressed. Through oration, one can call for more regulations to ensure that firearms don't fall into the wrong hands. Speech can help bring attention to the mental health needs of individuals and highlight the importance of treating mental illnesses before they become violent. Through speaking up for changes in the legislation, it’s possible to influence lawmakers' decisions and shape laws that promote safety and security for all citizens. The media also has a significant role to play in gun violence, and speech can be used to bring them on board. Attend press conferences, write op-eds, and take part in interviews with journalists to bring visibility to the issue. Media attention can help bring awareness to the extent of the problem, educate and influence the public on the importance of the issue, and ultimately change people's attitudes, behaviors, and actions. In conclusion, speech is a powerful tool that can be used to bring awareness to gun violence. Through speeches, personal anecdotes, statistics, advocacy, and media attention, we can move the conversation forward. Speech encourages us to listen to the voices of those who have been impacted, understand the issue better, and call for change.     As a child, I was always fascinated by the complexity of the human mind, specifically the psychology of children. After completing high school, I realized that the only way for me to become a child psychologist was to obtain a college degree. I quickly found out that the cost of tuition was high, and my family could not afford it. However, I'm determined not to let my financial situation stand in the way of achieving my dreams. I believe that a scholarship can help me to afford to become a child psychologist. Firstly, a scholarship can help me to cover the cost of tuition, which I could not afford. Without a scholarship, I would have to settle for a lower-tier college or, worse, not attend college at all. However, with a scholarship, I would have the opportunity to attend the college of my choice and secure a high-quality degree. Secondly, as a child psychologist, I will need to attend graduate school as well to have a deep understanding of children's mental health. Graduate school can be costly, much more than undergraduate studies. However, with a scholarship, I can pay for my graduate school and acquire the necessary skills that will reinforce my position as a child psychologist. Furthermore, a scholarship would not only provide financial assistance but also recognition for my academic achievements. It would be an honor to receive a scholarship and would motivate me to work harder toward my goals. Additionally, being a scholarship recipient would open up opportunities for networking and connecting with other professionals in my field, which could lead to potential job offers or collaborations in the future. Thirdly, scholarships can also aid in paying other expenses such as accommodation, transportation, and books, among others. As a child psychologist, I would have to carry out research, and books and research resources can be expensive. Hence, having a scholarship would help me to offset some of these expenses and help me to focus more on my studies without worrying about bills piling up. Fourthly, a scholarship can increase my chances of getting a job after completing my studies. It can demonstrate my hard work and dedication to child psychology, making me a more attractive candidate to future employers. In conclusion, a scholarship will be substantial in my endeavor to become a child psychologist. Without one, I may never be able to afford tuition, let alone graduate school. Additionally, it will help me to pay for other expenses such as accommodation and textbooks.     As a child, I always dreamed of becoming a doctor. I loved the idea of being able to help people and make them feel better. It wasn't until a few years ago, however, that I realized my true passion lies in child psychology. This realization came after a bad experience with a therapist who left a lasting impact on me. I was seeing a therapist for anxiety and depression, but the sessions always left me feeling worse than before. I felt like my therapist didn't understand me and didn't take my concerns seriously. I found myself constantly frustrated and discouraged, feeling like there was nowhere to turn for help. It was during this time that I started researching child psychology and found myself drawn to the idea of helping young people work through their struggles. I could never quite understand why I was falling behind in school, struggling with simple spelling and grammar mistakes, and making basic math errors. It was not until much later that I realized what had been holding me back: I had dyslexia. Dyslexia can be a difficult challenge for those who have it. It's a learning disability that affects the way a person reads, writes, spells, and sometimes even speaks. In my case, dyslexia caused confusion and hindrance in every subject that I tried to learn. Math was difficult due to my poor working memory, so it was hard to keep track of numbers and remember equations. English was just as difficult due to my difficulty in recognizing and remembering letter combinations and letter order. Without proper spelling and grammar, I often came to the wrong conclusions while writing or taking tests. Dyslexia was an obstacle that I had to overcome in order to succeed in school. I had to heavily rely on memorization and practice in order to form a strong foundation of English language skills and to be able to understand and explain concepts without having the words get in the way of tutors, friends, and family to help me understand the material I was being taught. I studied hard to make sure that I understood what was expected of me, especially in reading and writing. Growing up with a dad who is addicted to drugs, alcohol, and was constantly in jail has intertwined with my educational journey in ways I by no means anticipated. The instability that comes with living with an addict, at the side of the dangers and uncertainty this added on, ultimately cultivated within me a deeper information and gratitude for what I have been capable of attaining. There are a lot of things I used to worry about, but I realized that if I died tomorrow, half of those things would not matter. I should take every experience I am offered, I should take that random class I do not need, and I should spend more time will people because what is the worst that could happen? I gain a bad experience? In the end, bad experiences are still experience that I can learn and grow from. When I am at the end of my journey, I can leave with a ton of experience and have no regrets that I should have done more. Although it was extremely hard to lose my uncle, I feel very at peace with his passing; he was at peace with his experience and was ready for what lay before him, and I truly believe it is because he lived every day like it was his last.
