My goal is to help research and discover ways to help athletes meet their fitness goals and be injury resistant. I hope to develop ways to prevent career ending or life injuries by opening up gym facilities for everyone who would like to improve their health and wellness.

Playing athletics, I experienced head injuries, several concussions, head lacerations that required stitches, I repeated 2nd grade from memory loss as well as Epilepsy. I was diagnosed with Epilepsy and a learning disability called Visual Memory Loss Disorder which causes me to not to remember spatial distance or retain information or memory. With epilepsy, the medical restrictions to play certain sports that I love was extremely challenging. I have experienced many setbacks and obstacles when an episode occurs, but I want to prove that epilepsy does not label or determine who you are. As long as you have the right mindset, give it your best and with all your heart, nothing can stop you.
Through therapies, medical guidelines, and treatments, I have overcome a lot. With this diagnosis, it put a lot of basic quality of life things normal kids look forward to such as driving into question. With perseverance, determination, and hard work, I now call it my "Super Power" and do not let anything hold me back. Unfortunately my IEP and Student Accommodation Plan have not been met in certain classes which made it difficult to pass or understand the class. I had to learn to advocate for myself and speak up to bring awareness or attention needed to succeed. This perspective has changed from me feeling different from everyone else to having something to prove. My mom helped get special tutors, accommodations, and worked hard with doctors and school administrators to develop an IEP with action plans into place that would work best to help me succeed.
This introduced me to finding out how to repair my body with the weight room and learning more about the body. When I first started playing basketball, I was a scrawny undersized kid that was easily pushed around that was looked at differently because of my disability. This led me to work out and build my body to withstand the demands basketball requires and be able to perform constantly at an elevated level. Going through multiple injuries and concussions, it sparked my interest in not only the way our bodies recover but how to make them stronger. Being an athlete, I went to to multiple gyms and facilities and found I wanted to help others in attaining an athletic physique that is functional and injury resistant. This has brought my interest to sports science and kinesiology. I would like to further research and develop ways for everyone to make full recoveries from concussions instead of life ending careers.
While balancing school, work and volunteering, I also spend time perfecting my craft in a sport I love, basketball. I first picked up a basketball at the age of five and have been playing ever since. I’ve played on recreation, school, AAU and circuit league teams which helped build my faith, character, leadership, discipline, and brought out a fierce competitor in me. I became Team Captain of my high school Junior Varsity and Varsity Basketball Varsity team, awarded the Hustle Award, and ranked 6th in the Catawba Shores Conference Top 3-Point Shooters in the area.
This mission is important to me to make a difference in this field by going to college. Coming from a single parent household, I will need to pay for my college tuition, housing, and expenses. I want to be the first-generation college graduate to continue the trajectory to help keep improving both mine and my family’s quality of life.
