When people hear the word "build," they often think of physical objects—bridges, buildings, or new technologies. As an engineering student, I appreciate the importance of building those things. However, the most important thing I hope to build in my future is a strong family. I hope to one day have a large family and create a home centered on love, faith, education, responsibility, and service to others. While careers, achievements, and accomplishments are important, I believe one of the greatest ways a person can positively impact the world is by investing in the next generation. My goal is to raise children who are not only intelligent and hardworking but also compassionate, honest, and committed to serving their communities. This goal is deeply influenced by my own life experiences. Throughout my college years, I have balanced work, school, and family responsibilities while overcoming significant hardships. These experiences taught me the importance of perseverance, sacrifice, and supporting those you love during difficult times. They also showed me how much influence family can have on a person's character and future success. As a future parent, I want to encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and a love of learning. I hope to expose my children to science, engineering, history, literature, and the skills they need to become capable and independent adults. At the same time, I want to teach them values such as integrity, humility, respect, and personal responsibility. Intelligence without character can be dangerous, but when knowledge is paired with strong morals, it can become a force for tremendous good. The positive impact of this goal extends beyond my own household. Every child grows into an adult who influences others through their work, relationships, and community involvement. By raising children who value education, service, and ethical leadership, I hope to contribute to a stronger society. Whether they become engineers, teachers, doctors, business owners, or parents themselves, I want them to leave their communities better than they found them. As I pursue my engineering degree and work toward a career in aerospace research and development, I am also working toward the future family I hope to build. My professional goals will allow me to provide opportunities for my children, but my greatest success will not be measured by my career alone. It will be measured by the character, values, and positive influence of the family I leave behind.

Throughout my life, higher education has represented more than a degree, it has represented opportunity. It is the path that allows me to pursue my passion for aerospace engineering, provide greater stability for my family, and contribute meaningful innovations that improve the world around me. While many students face challenges in college, balancing financial responsibilities, work, and personal hardships has given me a deep appreciation for the opportunities that education provides and reinforced my determination to succeed. I am currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Dayton. My long-term goal is to earn a master's degree in aerospace engineering and work in research and development, helping design the next generation of aircraft and spacecraft. I have always been fascinated by the challenges of engineering and the ways technological advancements can expand human capabilities. Whether developing lighter and stronger materials, improving aircraft efficiency, or contributing to future space exploration, I hope to play a role in creating innovations that benefit society for generations to come. My commitment to this goal extends beyond the classroom. For the past four years, I have worked at the University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI), where I have gained valuable hands-on experience in materials research. My responsibilities include fabricating advanced composite material and conducting quality control testing under ISO 9001 standards. I helped perform mechanical testing according to ASTM procedures, allowing me to see firsthand how engineering concepts are applied to real-world problems. This experience has strengthened my technical skills, confirming my desire to pursue a career in engineering research and development. At the same time, my educational journey has required significant sacrifice. Throughout most of my college career, I have worked approximately forty hours per week while taking classes. Balancing full-time employment with academic responsibilities often meant long days followed by late nights studying and completing assignments. While this schedule was difficult, it taught me discipline, perseverance, and effective time management. More importantly, it taught me how valuable education truly is. The greatest challenge came when I was nineteen years old and my mother passed away in the middle of a semester. At the same time, my father was recovering from thyroid cancer treatment and was unable to work. Overnight, my family's financial situation changed dramatically. For nearly a year, I helped support our household by contributing to mortgage payments, utilities, food, transportation costs, and other essential expenses. What had once been a typical college experience became a balancing act between supporting my family, maintaining employment, and continuing my education. There were many moments when pursuing higher education seemed overwhelming. Like many low-income students, I faced the difficult question of whether continuing my education was financially responsible when my family needed support. However, I recognized that earning a degree would create opportunities not only for myself but also for those around me. I remained committed to my studies because I understood that education was the most effective way to build a better future. In addition to work and academics, I have remained committed to serving others. I have volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, participated in the University of Dayton Move-Out Collection, and served in campus faith organizations that support students facing personal struggles. I have also led a summer Bible study and spent time encouraging students who were experiencing difficult seasons in their own lives. These experiences taught me that positive impact is not measured only by professional achievements but also by the willingness to invest in others. Higher education is helping me develop the knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary to achieve my goals. It is preparing me to contribute to technological advancements while also equipping me to serve my community as a leader and mentor. My experiences have shown me how quickly life circumstances can change and how important it is to use one's abilities to help others overcome challenges. Receiving this scholarship would help reduce the financial burden associated with completing my education. More importantly, it would represent an investment in someone who has worked diligently to overcome adversity while remaining committed to academic achievement, professional growth, and service to others. My goal is not simply to earn a degree or build a successful career. My goal is to use the opportunities provided by higher education to create technologies that improve lives, advance scientific understanding, and inspire future generations of engineers. Through perseverance, hard work, and a commitment to serving others, I hope to create a positive impact that extends far beyond myself.
