First Generation College, First Generation Immigrant Scholarship
Growing up in Lewis County, Kentucky, I have seen the challenges that many families face in a low-income rural community. Those experiences have shaped my determination to work hard and pursue opportunities that can create a better future for myself and others.
My story began with adversity when I was abandoned by my birth mother shortly after I was born. Fortunately, I was adopted into a loving family that gave me the support, stability, and encouragement every child deserves. Their love and sacrifices have had a tremendous impact on my life and inspired me to make the most of every opportunity I have been given.
Today, I am proud to be a first-generation college student. Attending college is not only a personal achievement but also a way to honor the support my family has provided throughout my life. Earning a degree will help me reach my goals and create opportunities that were not always available to those who came before me.
My family’s commitment to helping children continues through foster care. Opening our home to children in need has taught me the importance of compassion, resilience, and giving back. Having experienced the life-changing impact of a caring family myself, I understand how meaningful that support can be.
These experiences have shaped who I am and motivated me to build a brighter future while helping others along the way.
David Foster Memorial Scholarship
Engineering has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. Ever since I was young, I’ve been drawn to building, creating, and figuring out how things work. Whether it was putting things together, taking them apart, or imagining new designs, I’ve always had a natural curiosity that pushed me toward engineering. That curiosity has grown into a clear goal for my future: to build a career where I can design, create, and solve real-world problems.
My long-term goal is to work for a large engineering firm where I can apply my skills, continue learning, and provide a stable and successful life for my family. I want a career that challenges me and allows me to make a meaningful impact. My faith in God plays a major role in my life and keeps me grounded, especially when things get difficult. It has taught me discipline, perseverance, and the importance of staying focused on my purpose. Along with my faith, I have a strong commitment to fitness. Staying active and pushing myself physically has helped me build mental toughness, consistency, and a strong work ethic—qualities that I carry into my academics and future career.
I come from a low-income household, and I am also a first-generation college student. On top of that, I was adopted, which has shaped my perspective on life and strengthened my determination to succeed. I have learned the importance of hard work, perseverance, and taking advantage of every opportunity given to me. These experiences have not held me back—they have pushed me forward and made me more focused on achieving my goals.
Throughout high school, I have taken engineering and welding classes to better prepare myself for my future career. These classes have given me hands-on experience and helped me develop valuable technical skills. They have also confirmed that engineering is the path I want to pursue. However, continuing my education comes with financial challenges. I plan to attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona, a school that will provide me with the education and opportunities I need, but it is expensive.
Because of my financial situation, scholarships are essential for me to attend this university. Without financial assistance, achieving my dream would be extremely difficult. Receiving scholarships would not only ease the financial burden but also allow me to fully focus on my education and future career. I am determined to succeed, and with the right support, I know I can turn my passion for engineering into a lifelong career.
