I am musically influenced and strongly interested in majoring in music as my career path. The University of The Rio Grande Valley is my first choice of colleges because not only is it an outstanding academic university, but the music department offers an extraordinary opportunity to be a part of beautiful music program and most importantly do what I love the most. Here is a list of achievements, distinctions, and awards I have received related to music.
1. Mariachi Carnegie Hall Performance (TMF) - Played for the inaugural "Viva El
Mariachi" at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
2. National Young Composing Competition - Participated and competed on the
national level for the art of musical notation.
3. Distinction Award for Mariachi - Awarded for being first to compete in two groups
in Edcouch-Elsa Mariachi.
4. Distinction Award for Band - First to perform a written and arranged composition
by me in Edcouch-Elsa Band.
5. TAME Music Festival (2023) - Played for the inaugural JV mariachi TAME Festival
placing 2nd in all of Texas.
6. UIL Mariachi State Festival - Was apart of the Edcouch-Elsa Varsity Mariachi
receiving state championships throughout my high school years.
7. Outstanding Performance Medal (Mariachi) - Was received this medal for going
beyond standards at UIL Mariachi State Competition throughout my high school
years.
8. Band UIL Solo-Ensemble - Was awarded a division one rating for region Solo-

I was involved in many activities during my youth, including Little League sports, boot camps, martial arts, many academic camps, and more. Although I never pursued sport-like activities, I grew fond of and connected to music. In sixth grade, I joined the school band because I found music entertaining. Over the years, my time in the program introduced me to new forms of instrumentation, including mariachi. It was uncommon for a student to participate in both band and mariachi, but my directors recognized my potential. During my time in high school, I have had several directors who each taught me valuable lessons, not only to push my limits but also to be independent and explore music beyond simply playing an instrument. I learned musical composition. Throughout my high school years, I have been arranging, writing, and composing music. By my junior year, I was presented with an opportunity to write music for my band program. I have been writing and arranging for my band, mariachi, and for independent projects. From a Selena Medley for marching band to arranging for a modified small jazz band, we started that same year. I have even participated in a musical composition competition with the help of my fine arts director and my school district. I was given an opportunity to present myself at the national level to compose music for an orchestra. Through the different programs of music I participate in, I have played at many community engagements, and I have been part of different volunteer events. Some of these events include the McAllen, Texas parade, UTRGV events, STC college, building openings, Vicente Gonzalez, and so many others. I am truly grateful for these extraordinary opportunities, which have only fueled the passion I have for music. I have received many awards and recognition for all that I do, but what drives me is my love for the music field. My greatest accomplishments thus far have been participating in the National Young Composers Challenge in Florida through my band program and performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City with Mariachi.
On the other hand, besides being musically inclined, I am also an active member and officer of my high school student council organization. I believe that my leadership skills and my determination to succeed in all that I do will help me in my college and future career. After graduating, my goal is to pursue my passion fully, to compose, direct, perform, and contribute to the music industry in a meaningful way. I want to create pieces that inspire others and continue to push the boundaries of musical storytelling. I want to be a director. Also, I want to give back to the community in any way that I can, and by using music to do so. Music is another language, and I want the opportunity to go to college and share it with the world, and the only way is through the help of this scholarship. Receiving this scholarship would be a tremendous help in supporting my education financially. It would allow me to focus more on developing my musical skills and less on the financial challenges that come with college. With this support, I can continue pursuing my dream of turning my passion into a lifelong career.
