I might be lost. I might end up failing myself, my future kids, and my family. . . . That is what I told myself until I came to the realization of my purpose, or at least what I believe is my purpose. I believe that finding out what one wants to pursue in life is essential to one's well-being because without that purpose you are lost. I was lost, but now I believe I am found. Every morning I wake up early, not to hop in the shower, but to wake my sisters up. I wake them up first thing in order to allow them to get ready for the day before me. There is only one shower available to us, so we must wait for one another to get ready. I allow them to go before me because I know how much they value having enough time to use the shower before we have to leave. I also, personally, drive my sisters to their middle school and elementary in order to ensure that they get to school, as my parents are too busy. Those examples may seem like minuscule tasks but can be translated into a bigger picture. I find my purpose in helping them out and ensuring that they have the best experience in the house and outside. I am there for them when they need transportation and advice. I believe that I am built to serve others and that I can better execute that through work as a doctor. I am pursuing a career path in Cardiology. I understand that this path will be strenuous but through it, I can fulfill my purpose to serve others. I will be able to communicate with patients about what's going on with their hearts and how they can improve their lives for the better. Having the ability to be the person who lets others know how they can better their lives, brings me joy. I will be able to shape the identity of healthcare on my path. Many people see healthcare as nothing more than a money-scheming business that takes advantage of people's needs, but through my work, I can change the narrative. I can change the narrative by being the person who shows the patients and co-workers that they are valued and that whatever needs to get done for their well-being will get done. Helping someone is more than just prescribing a diet or workout plan, but rather leaving a positive impact, an impact that motivates them and carries them through to even just the next day. That is how I will make a difference. My purpose is to help others so I will be the change in the narrative, I will get work done, and I will be the difference.
