I have always been interested in either going into the military or being in law enforcement. I have a number of family members and friends who served or are going to serve in the military or are police officers - some local, which I love because I get to see them in action.
I am always surprised to see them out in the community, doing more than just "working". They are true heroes, whether saving a kitten from a tree, rescuing someone caught in a flash flood, handing out candy at a parade, investigating a crime, helping an older person with their groceries - Police officers work to reduce crime, build trust, and ensure safety and well-being for all citizens.
I remember as a kid, once a year the local police department would visit my school. I would look up at them and thought they were the coolest, toughest, strongest folks around. Police were my version of Superman. I knew that I wanted to make a difference to other kids, like they made a difference to me. I want to make that same impact on my community, or whichever community I am lucky enough to serve.
Things in this world have gotten out of control, it can be very scary. I want to be a part of keeping people safe and feel secure. I would like to work with people and communities to address the underlying things that add to crime, like poverty, lack of opportunity, or drug abuse. I want to make a significant positive impact on the lives of people and community by responding to emergencies, providing assistance, and being a visible presence. Participating in community programs, school events, and other outreach programs can build positive relationships and foster a sense of partnership between law enforcement and the public.
I have been on sports teams for most of my life and I see being in law enforcement as working as a team, which I love. Building relationships with my brothers. I also enjoy the physical parts of being in law enforcement. During high school I was able to attend a technical high school and study Criminal Justice, it was a such a great experience being able to learn in the class & hands on. I look forward to starting my college career studying criminal justice and graduating so that I can move on to starting my future career in law enforcement.
