Serving my community has played a major role in shaping who I am today, both as a student and as a leader. Through my involvement in a wide range of extracurricular activities, I have developed a strong sense of responsibility and a commitment to making a meaningful impact on those around me. Academically, I have challenged myself through involvement in several honor societies, including National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Beta Club. Through these organizations, I have contributed to service initiatives such as creating Pi Day goody bags for teachers and supporting donation programs like Shop with an Eagle. One of the most meaningful ways I have served my community is through tutoring. I have dedicated around 60 hours to helping students across a variety of subjects, assisting them in understanding difficult material, building confidence, and improving their study habits. This experience has taught me patience, communication, and the importance of supporting others in their growth. I have also participated in Wreaths Across America, where I joined others in placing wreaths on the graves of fallen soldiers as a way to honor their service. This was a humbling reminder that true service is not about recognition, but about honoring others and making a quiet, lasting impact. After high school, I plan to attend Georgia Tech and major in chemical and biomolecular engineering. I am passionate about using what I learn to pursue cancer research and contribute to advancements that can improve and save lives. I would also like to research more into microplastics and water purification, finding a way to make the water safer for both humans and animals. I would also like to start my own charity. It’s mission would be to support students facing both academic and basic needs challenges. I would create a program that combines tutoring, mentorship, and access to essential resources such as food. Volunteers would serve as tutors and mentors, helping younger students grow academically and personally, while also organizing school-based food pantries in partnership with local organizations. Through this, I hope to build a stronger, more supportive community where every student has the opportunity to succeed. Ultimately, I have realized that the most rewarding moments haven’t come from the titles I’ve held, but from the connections I’ve made while helping others. Whether it was the relief on a student's face after a long tutoring session or the silence of a cemetery while honoring those who served, these experiences have taught me that true service is about showing up for people when they need it most. It isn't a checklist of activities to complete; it is a commitment to seeing a need and taking the initiative to fill it.

Aserina Hill Scholarship Serving my community has played a major role in shaping who I am today, both as a student and as a leader. Through my involvement in a wide range of extracurricular activities, I have developed a strong sense of responsibility and a commitment to making a meaningful impact on those around me. As a Charlie Squadron Commander and Flight Commander in my school’s JROTC program, I have learned the importance of leadership, discipline, teamwork, service, and integrity. In these roles, I am responsible for guiding and mentoring other cadets while helping maintain the standards of our unit. Through JROTC, I have participated in numerous service activities, including supporting school events, assisting with ceremonies, and completing service projects, accumulating over 100 hours of community service within JROTC. Working alongside individuals from diverse backgrounds has strengthened my ability to lead by example and contribute positively to any team. Beyond JROTC, I have been actively involved in athletics, including baseball, varsity track, and cross country. These experiences have taught me perseverance, time management, and the value of pushing myself to improve. I have also competed in JROTC activities such as Raiders, Color Guard, and Orienteering, which further developed my teamwork and leadership abilities in high-pressure environments. Additionally, I served as the commander of my school’s drone program, where I helped lead and organize both competitive and recreational drone activities. I have also worked part-time jobs at Mathnasium, Tropical Smoothie, and Simax, balancing work with school and extracurricular commitments. These experiences have strengthened my work ethic, responsibility, and ability to manage my time effectively. One of the most meaningful ways I have served my community is through tutoring. Cadets to Vets Future Leaders Scholarship
Cadets to Vets Future Leaders Scholarship Building stronger communities has become part of my larger goal, shaped largely by my experiences in JROTC and my continued involvement in service. Over the years, I have taken part in a wide range of service opportunities through JROTC, academic organizations, and community initiatives. Through these experiences, I have come to understand that meaningful impact is not always found in large, visible actions, but in consistent and intentional efforts to support others. As a member of my school’s JROTC program, I developed discipline, accountability, and a deep sense of responsibility to those around me. JROTC showed me the importance of the values of leadership, teamwork, integrity, and service. These principles that now guide my actions both in and out of the classroom. Through JROTC, I contributed over 100 hours of community service, participating in activities such as supporting school events, assisting with ceremonies, volunteering at food pantry events, helping with community cleanups, and providing event security. Getting to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds has taught me how to lead by example and reinforced the importance of contributing positively to my community. One of the most meaningful ways I have served others has been through tutoring. By helping my peers overcome academic challenges, I was able to make a direct and lasting impact on their confidence and success. Tutoring strengthened my communication and leadership skills while showing me the power of patience and encouragement. Seeing someone grow academically because of my support was incredibly rewarding and reinforced my desire to continue uplifting others through education. While each service opportunity has shaped me, one JROTC event stands out above all others: Wreaths Across America. During this event, I joined others in placing wreaths on the graves of fallen soldiers. The experience was emotional and humbling, serving as a powerful reminder that true service does not seek recognition. Instead, its value lies in the quiet, lasting impact it has on others. One challenge I faced during high school was learning to balance multiple responsibilities, including academics, service, and personal expectations. At times, managing everything felt overwhelming, and I struggled to prioritize effectively. However, this challenge forced me to grow. I learned how to manage my time, stay organized, and remain focused under pressure. More importantly, it shifted my perspective. It helped me realize that leadership is not just about taking on many roles, but about being intentional and effective in the roles I choose. Looking ahead, I plan to continue my commitment to service by expanding peer tutoring and mentorship programs and working to address issues like food insecurity within my community. I am particularly interested in creating structured programs that combine academic support with leadership development, helping younger students grow both academically and personally. In the future, as I pursue a career in chemical and biomolecular engineering, I hope to contribute to underserved communities by improving access to essential resources such as healthcare, sustainable solutions, and food systems. If I could be the world’s next superhero, my theme song would be Pocketful of Sunshine by Natasha Bedingfield. The song represents optimism, resilience, and the ability to find light even in difficult situations. Throughout my experiences in JROTC and community service, I’ve learned that challenges are unavoidable, but maintaining a positive mindset can make a meaningful difference. Just like the song emphasizes inner strength and hope, I aim to uplift others and stay focused on creating a better future for my community, even when faced with obstacles.

At the height of my junior year, I wasn’t managing my schedule, my schedule was managing me. I was balancing AP Calculus BC, AP Chemistry, APUSH, and AP Lang while also holding leadership responsibilities in AFJROTC, participating in Raiders, Color Guard, track, and baseball, and working at both Mathnasium and Tropical Smoothie. On top of that, I felt constant pressure, from my parents and from myself, to maintain perfect grades while doing good in everything I committed to. For a while, I convinced myself I could handle it all just by working harder. But by the last couple months of each semester, everything began to slip. Assignments were turned in late. My grades dropped. No matter how much time I spent working, I felt like I was always behind. The more pressure I felt, the less effective I became. Mentally, it was one of the lowest points I had experienced. I was overwhelmed, exhausted, and unsure if I could recover, and at times I questioned whether it was even worth continuing to push for grades that felt like they were slipping away no matter what I did. That moment forced me to change everything. I had to change more than my effort, I had to change my approach. Instead of trying to push through everything at once, I broke my workload into structured, manageable pieces. I prioritized my academic responsibilities over less urgent commitments and worked to cut out distractions that were costing me time. I asked for help from teachers when I didn’t understand material, rather than wasting hours stuck on the same problems. The most important thing I did was I stopped relying on motivation to come to me and began relying on consistency. I treated my work like a commitment rather than something I could put off. These changes were not immediate fixes, but over time, they created stability. I regained control of my schedule, caught up on missing work, and steadily improved my performance. By the end of the year, I had earned all A’s in my classes. I built the academic foundation and application that helped me earn acceptance into Georgia Tech, a goal that once felt out of reach during my lowest point. Although I still face pressure and am continuing to develop discipline, this experience changed how I respond to challenges. I am more self-aware, more intentional with my time, and more honest with myself about my limits. I learned that overcoming hardship is not about pushing harder in the same way, it is about adapting, seeking support, and building systems that allow you to succeed even under pressure. That lesson is something I will carry with me far beyond the classroom.

Serving my community has played a huge role in my personal growth, and my involvement in multiple extracurricular activities has given me meaningful opportunities to make an impact on those around me. As a member of my schools JROTC, I have learned the values of leadership, discipline, teamwork, service, and integrity. Through JROTC I have had the opportunity to participate in many community service activities; such as supporting school events, assisting with ceremonies, and taking part in service projects. I have accumulated over 100 hours of community service in JROTC alone. I am glad that I got to work alongside people from diverse backgrounds, and this has taught me to lead by example and to always work to contribute positivity to my community. Along with JROTC, I served as a tutor, helping students who needed extra academic support. Tutoring has allowed me to make a direct impact by assisting my peers with challenging subjects, building their confidence, and improving their study habits. This has strengthened my communication and leadership skills and has shown me how patience and encouragement can help others succeed. Supporting people academically has been one of the most rewarding ways I have given back to my community. I have also been involved in many academic and service-based societies. Through Mu Alpha Theta, I helped create Pi Day goody bags for math teachers and helped donate to our Shop with an Eagle program. Through National Honor Society and National English Honor Society, I have volunteered at various school and community events, assisting with organization, outreach, and service activities to benefit the local community. Looking back, each service event has had a huge impact on me, but one service event stands out to me the most. That service event is Wreathes Across America. At this event, I joined others in placing wreathes on the graves of fallen soldiers. Those moments for me are always emotional and humbling, reminding me that true service doesn’t seek recognition – its value lies in the quiet impact it has on others. Looking at the future, I have several ideas to help my community become even better for future generations. One idea is to expand peer tutoring and mentorship programs by partnering with all the school organizations. With the support of students from these groups, we could provide a strong, structured program offering both academic and leadership guidance to younger students. Combining mentorship with leadership training would help students grow academically and personally. Another idea is to establish a school-wide food pantry to support students and families facing food insecurity. I am currently in the process of developing this initiative, and I believe that by partnering with school programs, middle school, and local elementary schools, we could significantly reduce food insecurity within our community. Additionally, increasing youth-focused service projects centered on leadership, volunteerism, and community growth could encourage young people to take a more active role in improving their community. Through these efforts, we can emphasize long-term values such as responsibility, respect, and service. I believe that a more connected, supportive, and better-prepared community for future generations is within reach.
