When I was in high school I suffered a gruesome knee injury to led to a depressive state in my life. Being immobilized for months at a time made me realize just how important physical activity is for us physically and mentally. It wasn't until I began going through the rehabilitation process that I found my passion in physical therapy and began to feel better again.
I truly believe that exercise and physical activity are forms of medicine. As a personal trainer and mobility tech I enjoy helping patients and clientele improve their health through physical activity. I help motivate and promote physical activity through education, motivational goal setting and added accountability.
As a future physical therapist, I aspire to one day treat patients with immense compassion and care, and help them to recover to the best of their abilities. I hope that I will have the opportunity to help others in the same way that I was helped when I went through the rehabilitation process.

James B. McKillip Scholarship for Physical Therapy
The moment my knee buckled under the pressure of a misstep; my life changed instantaneously. That instant wasn't just a fracture in time; it was the beginning of a journey that would challenge my physical and mental fortitude and illuminate my path toward a future in physical therapy. Wrestling with a severe knee injury and battling a subsequent depressive state instilled in me a profound appreciation for the indispensable role of physical therapy in recovery. This ordeal became the foundation of my unwavering commitment to a field I believe to be the cornerstone of holistic health and rehabilitation.
My academic achievements and professional pursuits underscore this dedication. Graduating with the highest distinction from Purdue University, I immersed myself in kinesiology, focusing on clinical exercise physiology, while also exploring psychology and entrepreneurship. These disciplines have endowed me with a comprehensive perspective on health, empowering me to approach physical therapy with both scientific rigor and innovative thinking. Currently, as a student at the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences, I am honing my skills to make a significant contribution to the profession.
The COVID-19 pandemic underscored the vital importance of physical activity as the world grappled with lockdowns and a widespread decline in physical well-being. It was during this challenging time that I identified a critical gap in the accessibility of quality fitness services. Driven by a commitment to health and a passion for innovation, I founded an online personal training service dedicated to providing home workout solutions for individuals during the pandemic. This venture emerged from a pressing need for remote fitness solutions that could support individuals in maintaining their physical and mental well-being amid global adversity.
The spirit of the James B. McKillip Scholarship resonates deeply with my journey. Establishing my online personal training platform amidst a global health crisis demonstrated my commitment to the health and fitness industry, showcasing my entrepreneurial spirit and my ability to identify and seize opportunities for positive change. With an ownership mindset and a steadfast dedication to progress, I aim to lead advancements in physical therapy that enhance community well-being and ensure the profession's sustainable growth.
My path to becoming a physical therapist is both deeply personal and professionally motivated. It is one of transformation—from a high school student confronting one of life's darkest moments to an aspiring physical therapist eager to make a significant impact. Through the James B. McKillip Scholarship, I aim to honor the legacy of a profession that has profoundly affected my life by advancing it for the greater good. My vision is to leverage my comprehensive education, entrepreneurial mindset, and personal recovery story to develop rehabilitation strategies that are as compassionate as they are effective. I am committed to leading by example, constantly pushing myself to learn more, and inspiring my peers to pursue innovation in patient care.
