Hi, I’m Jacelyn Lancaster, a current nursing student at State Fair Community College with a deep passion for healthcare, global exploration, and lifelong learning. As a first-generation, low income college student, I’ve always had to navigate my own path, balancing academics, work, and financial challenges to pursue my education. Despite these obstacles, my determination has only grown stronger, and I am committed to making a meaningful impact in the medical field.
One of my biggest passions is exploring different cultures—a love that started at a young age and has shaped many of my goals. I’ve traveled independently across the U.S. for international competitions through HOSA, FBLA, DECA, and Anatomage. Additionally, I'll soon be studying abroad at Korea University, where I’ll immerse myself in a culture I’ve admired for years.
I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities I’ve had so far and am always looking for ways to give back and uplift others who face similar challenges. Every scholarship I receive brings me one step closer to achieving my goals and making a difference in both my community and the world. Your financial support would not only make a positive impact for my future, but also the future of healthcare.

On my tiptoes, looking through the peephole to the other side, glorifying the people with clean clothes, a stuffed fridge, and nice houses. Behind the locked door of a low-income household, my younger self discovered the powerful key out: education.
Beginning in elementary school, financial literacy was a persistent thought on my mind, and this became quite apparent. Always insisting I didn’t need anything, wearing the same pink jacket until the cuffs frayed, and not even telling my parents about an upcoming field trip in case it cost money. It was ingrained in my mind to not be a burden to my struggling parents. In spite of my parents being hard workers and working long shifts to help support our family of five, there were moments when the active income just was not enough. Even though I was a small child, I was aware of our economic differences. However, I have always been keen on one thing, and that is breaking the cycle.
Education soon became my sanctuary, a realm where I could cultivate my potential and envision a future beyond the constraints of economic hardship. I knew better than most, that my education was my escape. Regardless of the lack of resources that come with being a low-income first-generational college student, my diligence and determination allows me to rise above the adversity that surrounds me. It doesn’t matter if I have to work twice as hard, because I will succeed in my schooling despite the future pre-destined upon me. Subsequently, through my involvement in DECA, HOSA, FBLA, and Anatomage, I competed while traveling across the country for national competitions. These experiences not only honed my leadership and problem-solving skills but also gave me a glimpse of the world beyond my immediate circumstances. Overcoming economic burdens wasn’t a mere matter of financial ascent; it was a journey of self-discovery. My mindset has shifted, and I can now appreciate the experiences that I have faced.
My past struggles have fueled my passion for nursing, specifically, my desire to serve impoverished and underrepresented communities. I know firsthand the challenges that come with limited access to resources, and I want to use my career to bridge the gap in healthcare disparities. As a future nurse, I aspire to provide compassionate, culturally competent care to those who often go unheard, ensuring that quality healthcare is not a privilege, but a right. Through education and advocacy, I hope to empower individuals in my community, proving that no matter where you come from, success—and access to essential care—should never be out of reach.
This journey has been vital in not only shaping my academic tenacity but has also been fundamental in my personal growth. I truly believe all of the struggles I have faced helped me become a more prosperous and resilient person, with the belief that education is the key to unlocking a future that will break the cycle of generational poverty that once defined my life. This scholarship would allow me to continue my educational journey without the overwhelming financial strain, bringing me one step closer to my goal of creating a better future—for myself, my family, and the communities I hope to serve.
