Sitting in the theater, watching Ready Player One, changed my view of our world. It sparked a passion that continues to try and make this world a better place. Seeing a devastating and tragic view of our future world, even in an enjoyable and comedic movie, made me ponder the trajectory of our planet and future life. It sparked an interest of mine in climate advocacy that has continued to grow today. The Ready Player One movie depicts a future world that has been destroyed by global warming and poverty. Technology has taken over as an escape for many. Citizens seemingly live in a new virtual reality where they can enjoy different games with other participants. The reality was that people had destroyed their planet, so they went into a better, virtual world that had everything they could possibly want. Many could afford necessities or a nice home but spent their time building their dream life in virtual reality. People became so attached to their new world that they forgot about the actual one they were living in. Watching this movie was an awakening for me. I realized that our planet is heading in the wrong direction, and can face a harsh reality such as in this movie. I began to research and read about climate change. I educated myself on what is harming our planet and what I can do to help reverse the effects. I knew that the setting of Ready Player One was an exaggeration of our future, but I couldn’t help but worry that it was what we were heading to. This led me to join our school's climate club and do my part in cleaning the environment. I went on to become the manager and vice president of our Key Club. Among many other service projects, we adopted a street to do our part in keeping the Earth clean. I now plan on pursuing a degree in the field of agriculture. I want to become a veterinarian, but I believe that a big part of this is my love for our planet. I am eager to not only learn about animal health but also about how the environment plays a role in that. Animals play a humongous role in agriculture. They are the food we eat and live on the land we share. Climate advocacy is extremely important to help ensure great animal health and keep our food clean and healthy. I truly believe that Ready Player One has had an immense impact on my life. It has shaped me into the person I am today and has led me to places that I may have never reached. My goals and dreams have been impacted and rearranged to fit into my love and devotion that has grown from this movie. Without this movie, I can accurately say I would be a different person.
