Hello, I am Iynaja Craver-Suggs, I am the oldest child of seven and I am a first-generation college student. I will be attending Texas Tech in the Fall of 2022 and majoring in Psychology with a minor in natural science, business, or criminology. I also will be on the pre-med pathway with hopes of becoming an OB/GYN. I love to work with children and I love to advocate for others especially those in underserved communities. In the future, I hope to own my own practice and contribute to organizations that help children of the future. I am a great candidate for your scholarship because it will not only help me further my education but give me the opportunity to help others. Thank you for your consideration!

Black Students in STEM Scholarship
I aspire to become an obstetrician and gynecologist or a pediatrician working in communities that lack representation more specifically a woman of color. I have a love for several sciences like biology, chemistry, and psychology. All of these can help me on the pre-med track, they are also visual, and it helps me understand the different process we go through in life. I love looking at things logically and understanding why something occurs and why it may react that way. Learning from every course will help me communicate effectively with others, whether it's explaining something or understanding why they feel a certain way. I want to make a positive impact by using my goal to help others and to make them feel heard and comfortable. Not only do I want to achieve that I also want to show others that they can do it no matter their circumstances. My medical career can help me make a positive impact by trying to help make advances and contributions to my field of study. Many people of color go unheard when seeking medical assistance and I plan on helping contribute to that change. My passion for helping others came from losing my little brother at a young age. The contribution from doctors, nurses, and others working at Children's Hospital had a significant impact on my family when my brother battled cancer. It was not easy watching him become ill and fight for his life and the staff was a huge help. I want to make others feel the same way and when they come to the hospital they feel helped and assisted while knowing I did what I could to help their situation. This is because too often many people leave the hospital without answers or treatment to their situation and can end up more sickly than they could have been or with a loved one having to say bye to them due to death. My passion for STEM is so great and all of these things are why I want to achieve my goals. Attending an early college STEM high school also has helped because I get to apply every aspect of STEM almost daily and I enjoy learning because of it. I hope to advance different scopes of STEM in the medical field while also being able to try my approach of helping people through my own practice. Lastly, I would like to thank you for your time and consideration for the Black Students in STEM Scholarship.
"A State of Mind" Texas Scholarship
Being a Texan means I am someone who comes from a melting pot of culture, identity, and opportunity. I have a chance to be exactly what and who I want to be in life. There are so many things to look forward to especially an education, job opportunities, and most of all freedom. Texas has a lot of freedom that I take pride in especially being able to openly express myself and walk outside and enjoy the fact that I can walk barefooted and enjoy the land that produces so much. Most importantly being a Texan also means that I can enjoy the Friday night lights, homecoming, mums, sweet tea, Whataburger, and some of the most generous and caring people in the south.

I am the oldest child of seven and I will be the first person in my family to attend and graduate college. I am a dual credit student and I spend a lot of my time on my academics, volunteering with children, tutoring, and taking care of my siblings. Outside of that I attend church faithfully and contribute in any way that is needed from me. I consistently try to help others and go out of my way to do so. I am also a great listener and hold many attributes that I would like to see in people who work in the health field. I aspire to become an obstetrician and gynecologist or a pediatrician working in communities that lack representation and the education of a woman more specifically a woman of color.

Normandie Cormier Greater is Now Scholarship
During my freshman year, I attended Cedar Hill Ninth-Grade Center. This year was tough and fun at the same time I had just moved from my hometown of Hillsboro Texas, and I was used to being the only black girl in all of my advanced classes. Attending school in Cedar Hill helped me discover more about my culture while giving me a culture shock since it is a predominantly black school district. I also lacked confidence in myself because I had just cut my hair and I was the new girl who was quiet and did not bother anyone else. After freshman year I went to Waxahachie Global High School, and I was the same way, but I found a group of friends and truly became myself. Due to Covid-19 and going home for spring break to not coming back was difficult. Doing online school was a major adjustment and teaching myself was difficult at first but I became used to it. Going back to school as a junior was scary due to a lot of the unknown but I got through it. The most challenging thing about my year was teaching myself math and getting used to writing research papers both of which I became good at. At the beginning of my senior year with a lot of the same unknowns appearing again I can say these experiences have shaped me to be the outspoken and confident female I am today. Now halfway through my senior year, I have appreciated being patient and absorbing the beauty in each moment. This is because I lost a classmate before the year began and some of the moments, I missed out on could have occurred if I had just taken my time. I also got covid along with two others in my household, I managed to take care of my siblings while still being sick. I also almost lost my father and I missed things at school that mattered so much to me. Now I live life trying to make every moment count because we never know when it will be our last as well as I cannot worry about the things that are out of my control. Many of my educational and career goals can be achieved through natural and health science majors like psychology. I aspire to become an obstetrician and gynecologist working in communities that lack representation and the education of a woman more specifically a woman of color.
