Bio

Hello! I am currently a senior in high school. I am very involved with activities at my school. I participate in school spirit activities, I am a varsity cheerleader, a varsity track and field athlete, and also I participate in the Black Student Union at my school. My goal in life is to be an ER Registred Nurse. My family is not so fortunate, so another goal is to give back to them. In order to reach this goal I am planning on applying to scholarships to help me pay for school.

In my youth, I never realized that my family was underprivileged. I had everything essential: clothes on my back, food, and a roof over my head. My mother raised me and my siblings as a single mother due to my alcoholic father. Ever since I was old enough to see my mom struggling, I knew I needed to give back. School plays a very pivotal role in my life. In the future, I plan to be an ER Registered Nurse. As an African-American, there is a lack of diversity in the nursing field. My goal is to be incorporated into changing the lack of racial diversity in the nursing field. Education remains important to me because I know I need it for my future. College is not a cheap experience, but I will not let that prevent me from achieving my goals. As an African-American, I do have the disadvantage of not having access to funds. However, not having access to funds has only pushed me to work harder. Regardless of not having funds, I know other resources are available to help me achieve my goals. Having black nurses is essential to healthcare to represent diversity. Nursing is a very rewarding career because I am able to give back. My goal is to give back to my mother. My mom has given me everything; it only feels right if I do the same for her. By becoming a registered nurse, I am able to help people at a very vulnerable point in their lives. Having access to culturally diverse healthcare is very important in communities.
