I discovered that education became a pivotal force in my path to independence, safety, and financial freedom. Through learning and advocacy, I transformed my life and emerged stronger than ever.
The effects of domestic violence extend far beyond the immediate physical harm; they seep into the very fabric of one’s identity, self-worth, and future prospects. For many survivors, the situation creates a cycle of dependency, often leaving them feeling trapped and powerless. I was no exception. The emotional turmoil and fear of leaving my situation paralyzed me, and it wasn't until I sought education that I began to see a glimmer of hope.
Education opened doors that I never knew existed. Enrolling in school allowed me to gain knowledge and skills that were essential for building a new life. I pursued my studies with fervor, motivated by the desire to create a better future for myself. Each class I attended not only equipped me with practical knowledge but also instilled a sense of confidence I had long lost. I began to see myself as an individual capable of achieving my goals, rather than just a victim of my circumstances.
Education provided me with critical resources and support networks. Through my academic journey, I connected with mentors and advocates who understood the complexities of domestic violence. They educated me about my rights and the various resources available for survivors. Knowledge became my armor; I learned about local shelters, legal protections, and counseling services that could aid my recovery. This newfound awareness was empowering, allowing me to reclaim control over my life.
Financial independence is a significant aspect of breaking free from an abusive relationship. Many survivors find themselves in precarious financial situations, often reliant on their abusers for support. As I progressed in my education, I gained qualifications that opened up job opportunities previously out of reach. With each new skill I acquired, I moved closer to financial stability, enabling me to support myself without fear of returning to my past.
The journey was not without its challenges. There were moments of doubt, fear, and overwhelming obstacles. However, the knowledge I gained through education fortified my resolve. I learned about budgeting, personal finance, and the importance of saving, which equipped me to make informed decisions about my future. I realized that financial freedom was not merely about earning a paycheck; it was about establishing a secure foundation for myself and any future family, I wished to build.
The practical benefits, education also fostered a sense of community. I found solidarity among fellow students and survivors, creating a support system that bolstered my healing process. Sharing our stories and experiences in a safe environment allowed us to uplift one another, reinforcing the idea that we were not alone in our struggles. This camaraderie fueled my determination to advocate for other survivors, inspiring me to use my voice to raise awareness about the realities of domestic violence and the importance of education in breaking the cycle.
My experience as a survivor of domestic violence taught me that while the scars may remain, they do not define who I am. Education served as the catalyst for my transformation, providing me with the independence, safety, and financial freedom I desperately sought. Through learning, I gained the tools to advocate for myself and others, fostering a sense of empowerment that continues to grow. As I move forward, I am committed to using my story to inspire change and encourage other survivors to embrace education as a means to reclaim their lives. Together, we can break the silence and build a future free from violence.

I am a first-generation college graduate, an immigrant female of color, a mother of three, a full-time student, and a full-time employee. My journey has been marked by resilience and determination, as I navigate the complexities of my identity while striving for success in a world that often presents obstacles due to who I am and how I look and sound.
From an early age, I understood that my path would not be easy. As an immigrant, I faced the challenge of adapting to a new culture and language while trying to maintain my own heritage. This duality has shaped my worldview, instilling in me the values of hard work and perseverance. However, the journey has not been without its hurdles. I have encountered racism and sexism in various forms, which have often left me feeling marginalized or underestimated. These experiences have been painful, but they have also fueled my determination to rise above adversity.
Balancing the demands of motherhood, full-time employment, and academic pursuits has been a daunting task. Each day is a juggling act, as I strive to fulfill my responsibilities both at home and in my professional and educational life. The financial barriers that accompany these responsibilities can be overwhelming. There were moments when I questioned my ability to continue, as the weight of my obligations felt too heavy to bear. Yet, I have learned to draw strength from my challenges. They have taught me resilience, empathy, and the importance of advocating for myself and others.
In facing these challenges, I have developed a passion for leadership and advocacy. I believe that everyone, regardless of their background, deserves equal opportunities to succeed. My experiences have given me a unique perspective on the systemic issues that many marginalized communities encounter. I am committed to using my voice to advocate for change, to create pathways for others who may find themselves in similar situations. I envision a future where diversity is embraced and celebrated, where individuals are not held back by the color of their skin, their gender, or their socioeconomic status.
My goal is to become a leader who empowers others to overcome their challenges. I aspire to mentor those who are navigating their own journeys, providing guidance and support as they strive to reach their potential. Through community engagement and policy advocacy, I aim to contribute to meaningful change that promotes equality and inclusivity for all.
My journey as an immigrant female of color has been a tapestry woven with challenges and triumphs. I am resolute in my pursuit of leadership and advocacy for equal opportunities. Nothing will stop me from achieving my goals, and I am dedicated to ensuring that others have the chance to succeed alongside me. RonranGlee Special Needs Teacher Literary Scholarship
The quote by Professor Harold Bloom, "the purpose of teaching is to bring the student to his or her sense of his or her own presence," encapsulates the essence of education: helping students recognize their own identities, strengths, and potential. In the context of special education, this statement resonates deeply, as it highlights the importance of fostering self-awareness and self-advocacy in students with diverse needs. My passion for being a special education teacher stems from the profound impact I can have on students' lives by guiding them to discover and embrace their unique selves. I'm currently working with especial need students has a teacher assistant, and seeing they go through so many challenges has made my desire to grow more, I have learned a lot from then to.
To facilitate this journey, my mission is to create an inclusive and nurturing environment where each student feels valued and understood. I aim to build strong relationships with my students, taking the time to learn about their individual interests, strengths, and challenges. By doing so, I can tailor my teaching strategies to meet their diverse needs, ensuring that they experience success in a way that is meaningful to them. I believe that when students feel a sense of belonging and acceptance, they are more likely to engage in their learning and explore their identities.
One of the key components of guiding my students to experience a sense of their own presence is fostering self-advocacy. I encourage them to express their thoughts, feelings, and needs, helping them recognize that their voices matter. Through activities that promote self-reflection and goal-setting, students learn to identify their aspirations and take ownership of their learning journeys. I also strive to integrate social-emotional learning into my curriculum, teaching students valuable skills such as self-regulation, empathy, and resilience.
In illustrating my mission, let me share a brief fairy tale where I take on the role of a heroine guiding my students toward self-discovery:
---
**The Enchanted Classroom**
Once upon a time, in a vibrant kingdom called Educatia, there lived a kind-hearted teacher named Miss Luna. She was known far and wide for her magical classroom, where students of all abilities were welcomed with open arms. In this enchanted space, every child had the chance to shine and discover their true selves.
One day, a group of students arrived at Miss Luna's classroom, each carrying their own fears and doubts. There was Leo, who struggled to communicate; Mia, who felt overwhelmed by her emotions; and Sam, who doubted his abilities in math. They often felt lost in the vast world of learning, unsure of their place in it.
Miss Luna, with her warm smile and gentle guidance, decided to embark on a quest to help her students find their own presence. She gathered them together and explained, "In this classroom, we will explore the magic within each of you. Together, we will unlock your unique strengths and celebrate who you are!"
Their journey began with a treasure map filled with activities designed to build confidence and self-awareness. They ventured through the Land of Communication, where Leo learned to express himself through art and storytelling. In the Valley of Emotions, Mia discovered techniques to manage her feelings, empowering her to share her thoughts with her classmates. Meanwhile, Sam navigated the Mountain of Math, where he found creative ways to solve problems that made learning fun and engaging.
As the days went by, Miss Luna encouraged her students to reflect on their progress and set personal goals. With each success, they felt a sense of presence growing within them—a realization that they were capable of more than they had ever imagined.
One sunny afternoon, Miss Luna organized a grand celebration to showcase the talents of her students. Leo painted a beautiful mural that told the story of their journey, Mia performed a heartfelt poem about friendship, and Sam dazzled everyone with his clever math tricks. The entire kingdom gathered to witness the magic of their transformation.
As the applause echoed through the air, Miss Luna smiled with pride. She knew that her students had not only discovered their individual strengths but had also found their voices in the world. They had learned that their presence mattered, and together, they could conquer any challenge.
From that day forward, the enchanted classroom became a beacon of hope and inspiration for all. Miss Luna continued her mission, guiding countless students on their paths to self-discovery, ensuring that each one felt the warmth of belonging and the power of their own presence.
And so, in the kingdom of Educatia, the legacy of Miss Luna's magical classroom lived on, reminding everyone that within each child lies a unique spark just waiting to be ignited.

This fairy tale illustrates my belief in the transformative power of education, particularly in special education. By guiding my students to embrace their identities and empowering them to take charge of their learning, I hope to foster a sense of presence that will serve them not only in the classroom but throughout their lives.

Being an underrepresented student and having kids who don't feel present in their school building has been my motivation, I want to be able to support students of color, supporting them in everyday challenges helping them to thrive and become an inspiration for them, and anyone who feels and belief that underrepresented communities are not capable of success. Seen Al the disquality in education have made my desire bigger I want too advocated a equal opportunity for students. As an underrepresented student myself, I have experienced firsthand the challenges that accompany navigating an educational system that often overlooks the needs and potential of students of color. This personal journey has become my motivation to advocate for equity and inclusion within our schools. I understand the feelings of isolation and invisibility that many students of color face, and it is my mission to change that narrative.
One of the key aspects of my work involves creating a supportive environment where students of color feel seen, heard, and valued. I actively engage with students to understand their unique challenges, whether it's academic pressure, social dynamics, or cultural barriers. By fostering open communication and providing mentorship, I aim to empower them to recognize their strengths and capabilities. I want them to know that their backgrounds and experiences are not obstacles, but rather sources of resilience and inspiration.
To achieve this, I have initiated various programs and activities that promote cultural awareness and inclusivity. For instance, I organize workshops that celebrate the diversity of our student body, allowing students to share their stories and learn from one another. These events not only build a sense of community but also encourage students to take pride in their heritage. By showcasing successful role models—community leaders, alumni, and professionals of color—I aim to inspire students to envision a future where they can thrive and excel.
Additionally, I advocate for systemic changes within the educational framework. I work closely with teachers and administrators to address the disparities in resources, curriculum, and support services that disproportionately affect underrepresented students. This includes pushing for culturally relevant teaching practices that reflect the diverse backgrounds of our students, as well as advocating for mentorship programs and academic support tailored to meet their specific needs.
Furthermore, I actively seek partnerships with local organizations and community leaders to provide additional resources and opportunities for students. This could range from internships and scholarships to extracurricular programs that enhance their learning experiences. By connecting students with these resources, I aim to empower them to pursue their passions and interests without the constraints of socioeconomic barriers.
In advocating for equal opportunities, I also emphasize the importance of resilience and perseverance. I share stories of individuals from underrepresented communities who have overcome significant obstacles to achieve their dreams. These narratives not only serve as inspiration but also challenge the misconception that success is unattainable for students of color. I want them to internalize the belief that they are capable of achieving greatness, regardless of societal stereotypes.
In conclusion, my commitment to supporting students of color is rooted in a deep desire to dismantle the barriers that hinder their success. By fostering a culture of inclusion, advocating for equitable resources, and inspiring resilience, I strive to create an environment where every student feels empowered to thrive. Together, we can challenge the narrative that underrepresented communities are not capable of success, and instead, cultivate a generation of leaders who will shape a brighter future for all.

I'm working on supporting my community of Latinos by, encouraging them and engaging them to learn and be informed and involved about the immigration laws that have been approved by the current president of the United States of America, which have been racist and based on his beliefs is determined that all immigrants are criminals which is not true. This is why I speak with the families that are in my school building to stand up and be involved and prepared for any changes and always not to be afraid to speak up for what is right, because when we are united we are stronger, and that this country was built up in the blood of native Indian, and by the labor of Black African, which followed by the labor of immigrants for so many centuries, this country relays on the strength of the immigrants, and that's why the laws should be affecting us but supporting to keep building this country where everyone is welcome to stay and adopted like if their own, to protect and serve not to be in a country where people are discriminated by their status, by their skin color. In my ongoing efforts to support the Latino community, I have recognized the urgent need to address the misinformation and fear surrounding immigration laws, particularly those enacted by the current administration. These laws often perpetuate harmful stereotypes that label immigrants as criminals, which is not only inaccurate but also damaging to the fabric of our society. My mission is to empower families within my school community by fostering a deeper understanding of these issues and encouraging them to engage actively in advocating for their rights. By bringing in legal experts and community leaders, we provide a platform for open dialogue where families can ask questions, express their concerns, and share their experiences. This not only demystifies the legal process but also builds a sense of solidarity among participants, reinforcing the idea that they are not alone in their struggles.
I emphasize the importance of civic engagement. I encourage community members to participate in local meetings, reach out to their representatives, and join advocacy groups. By doing so, they can voice their concerns and influence policy decisions that affect their lives. I remind them that their stories matter and that by sharing their experiences, they contribute to a broader narrative that challenges the prevailing stereotypes surrounding immigrants.
In educational initiatives, I also work to create safe spaces for dialogue within our school. This involves facilitating discussions about race, identity, and the historical contributions of diverse communities to the United States. By highlighting the rich tapestry of our nation’s history acknowledging the struggles of Native Americans, the labor of Black Africans, and the contributions of immigrants we cultivate a sense of pride and belonging among Latino families, reinforcing the message that they are an integral part of this.
I encourage families to stand up for their rights, challenge discrimination, and advocate for policies that reflect the values of inclusion and equality. Together, we can dismantle the barriers that perpetuate fear and division, fostering a culture of acceptance and support.
My work is rooted in the belief that strength lies in unity. This journey is not just about legal rights; it's about affirming our shared humanity and standing up against injustice in all its forms. I am committed to this cause, and I invite others to join me in building a more equitable future for everyone in our community.
