Back in November of 2025, I volunteered in Precint2gether's Turkey Drive, an event aimed to support families facing food insecurity throughout the holiday season. I had joined to give back to my community, to give back like I have been given free meals as a kid. Not only had my experience allowed me that, but it had provided so much more than just that. It provided me with a profound understanding on how deeply these acts of service can impact a community. The event was organized to address food insecurities in the community, to provide a nice holiday meal to struggling families. Prior to handing out the food I, alongside other volunteers, had organized food in bags to hand out with the turkeys and settled into a coordinated line to provide the families an easy and efficient experience. After preparing, we gathered in groups in a parking lot to hand the food out to families in their cars. Seeing the long lines of cars filled with families who would benefit from the event was overwhelming, it pushed us all to give them our best. That's when I realized that I wasn't going to simply hand out food, I was there to hand out support and love in trying times for members of my community during hard times. The most memorable moments to me were the fleeting moments with the families as they drove up to my group's station, seeing their smiles filled with gratitude as we packed the food in their cars. Hearing the kids laugh and wave as they drove off when we began to cheer after handing out the food was heartwarming. Knowing we were helping parents give their children a warm holiday meal. This experience enhanced my teamwork skills and fortified my drive to serve my community directly. Since we had to serve so many people, we had to ensure we stayed organized and efficient, ensuring we gave the best experience to the families. Over time the morale got higher, seeing the impact of what I went in thinking might've been a simple service. I learned how to stay positive, patient and connected with my team in a high energy and high pressure event. My experience volunteering at the Turkey Drive with Precint2gether in November of 2025 motivated me to remain involved and connected with my community through service with not only Precint2gether but with any organization/event that can leave a positive impact. This event allowed me to realize that no matter how small I see an act of service, the impact on those receiving it is much more than that. Through my participation I gained leadership and team working skills and fortified my value of giving; I connected with my community and saw first hand the impact of collective efforts to aid people in hard times.
