Bio

Hello, my name is Isaiah Shakir. I am a Senior attending North Forsyth High School. During my time here at North, I have done various things, including Beta Club, FBLA, Academic Team, Jazz Band, Marching Band, etc. Not only have I been active outside of school, but I have managed to maintain all A's throughout all the courses I have taken. Because of all the hard work I've put in throughout the years, I am now secured as Rank 6 in my Senior Class of 499 students. With a grand adventure of life ahead of me, I will not forget the past full of adversity and prosperity. I was born in Memphis, Tennessee, ranked as one of the most dangerous cities in America. Thankfully, my parents decided to make the environment in which I would grow up in be safe. This meant that neither of my parents could finish college, but it was for my benefit. I moved to various schools and experienced some backlash due to being the only black kid at those schools. However, as I kept a good conscience, I was able to integrate into a school and become well-liked regardless of my race, and have utilized my superior academics to climb the top 10 in my class. As I begin to move forward in my next stage of life as an undergraduate and a first-generation college student, I will start by pursuing a degree in engineering. Because I have always been mathematically and scientifically gifted when it comes to school, this degree is within my reach. With it, I plan not only to get a job, but also create a business dedicated to advancing technology not only here in America, but help the whole world flourish.

Throughout my entire life, I remember being gifted in doing math and science and loving the subjects as well, in school. Because I’ve always been gifted in these subjects, I said that I wanted to be an engineer, because of my talent in STEM and how I love the realm of technology. Not only have I loved technology as long as I can remember, but I always find myself astonished seeing how far technology has come, in my life and the overall progression of technology in all of history. With new technologies being developed and researched, people’s lives have been able to prosper reciprocally with the increase of technology. With my gifts in STEM-based education, I could also contribute to the general good of working in the STEM field, leading me not just to desire to become an engineer, but I wanted to be another building block to advancing society as a whole. My parents have always known this has been my dream to become a Mechanical Engineer. Because of this, whenever my parents are working on some renovation project for our home, they always inquire of me what to do. Although the little experiences I have had have not been the most influential, ground-breaking solution, I have helped make their lives a bit easier, using my talent in both critical thinking and quick thinking to help them find a solution, no matter what it is. Technology is one of the most influential fields in one's community and the world. Because of how impactful technology is, it serves as my most influential factor in choosing my career and how I want to live my life. In high school, to achieve this goal of mine, I took AP Physics I and C, AP Computer Science Principles and A, AP Calculus AB/BC, Linear Algebra, and Multivariable Calculus. I eventually became 5th in class rank, despite being a minority in my school and being a first-generation college student where I am now accepted into Georgia Tech. At Georgia Tech, I will pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering which will allow me to create new things while advancing society along with it. But I don’t only want to have accomplished becoming an engineer, I also desire to use my knowledge and my degree to give me a firm foundation to start my own business, dedicated to advancing technology. The purpose of creating a business devoted to researching and developing new technology is to advance as many lives as possible. Technology is all about assisting people in accomplishing various tasks. As someone who can create new technology, I see it as a way to advance the world by enabling people to accomplish tasks with greater ease, ultimately contributing to society's foundation of helping people. Because I have the ability to help in this advancement with my hard-working attitude and aptitude for STEM-based education, I have every opportunity to make this business a reality and help as many people along the way. As I strive towards creating new technology, I will be able to be a part of the building blocks for advancing society, similarly as new technology has correlated to a better life for people in the past. My love for technology and STEM has not diminished throughout my life; rather, it has increased more and more as I aim to become a Mechanical Engineer, and with it, I will advance the technology of this society toward a brighter future.

Throughout my entire life, I remember being gifted in doing math and science and loving the subjects as well, in school. From being in elementary school playing speed multiplication tables to taking Multivariable Calculus through GA Tech as a Senior in High School, my love for this subject has not diminished. I knew from a very early age that what I wanted to do with my life consisted of math. As I grew older, it specified into engineering. To achieve this goal of mine, I took AP Physics I and C, AP Computer Science Principles and A, AP Calculus AB/BC, Linear Algebra, and Multivariable Calculus. I eventually became 5th in class rank, despite being a minority in my school and being a first-generation college student where I am now accepted into Georgia Tech. Because I’ve always been gifted in Math and Science, I said that I wanted to be an engineer, not knowing why. Not only have I loved technology as long as I can remember, but I always find myself astonished seeing how far technology has come, in my life and the overall progression of technology in all of history. My love for technology and STEM has not diminished since I was a small child; rather, it has increased more and more as I aim to become a Mechanical Engineer, and with it, I will advance the technology of this society toward a brighter future. Getting this degree becomes less than a fantasy and more like my future now that I am attending Georgia Tech so I can achieve these dreams.
    Learner Math Lover Scholarship
As long as I can remember, math has been my favorite subject in school. From being in elementary school playing speed multiplication tables to taking Multivariable Calculus through GA Tech as a Senior in High School, my love for this subject has not diminished. With math, there are so many opportunities laid out for you, so many amazing, unique careers. Seeing how math has evolved from simple addition and subtraction, long division, and squaring numbers to the intricate Physics Equation which allows you to find Energy, Momentum, and instantaneous rate of change is all so interesting. In math, you never stop learning, you never stop exploring, and the gratification of figuring out a tedious math question never gets old. I knew from a very early age that what I wanted to do with my life consisted of math. As I grew older, it specified engineering. To achieve this goal of mine, I took AP Physics I and C, AP Computer Science Principles and A, AP Calculus AB/BC, Linear Algebra, and Multivariable Calculus. Now that I am majoring in Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Tech, I am able to explore even more intricate branches of mathematics and continue to be reminded each day why I love math so much. Other subjects in school like English and History do not give the same satisfaction as Math does. Subjects like English and History leave the potential to have multiple correct answers and the right answer can be explained away by an argument that is up to the opinion of someone else. Math does not function the same way. A math equation yields the same answer, and a Physics problem has reasonable math-based answers to what would happen in a hypothetical trial. Math is superior in this way, as it is simple and is a clearcut right or wrong answer when answering questions. I have simply come to love math more and more as I went through my years in school. Math comes easily to me, but I also just love every aspect of math. The formulaic approaches you can take to have the guaranteed right answers to questions, to the process of learning how math builds off itself, to have the moment when a new concept clicks in your mind. Because of these things, positive that my love for math will continue to grow even more as I continue my education at Georgia Tech.
