My drive to become a teacher comes from someone who changed my life during one of the most difficult periods of my life so far. Growing up, I faced many challenges no one, especially not a young child should have to face. My parents' divorce brought significant changes to my life, and I was also affected by an abusive family dynamic that left me feeling confused, angry, hurt, and uncertain about my future. During those years I often felt alone and struggled to understand how to cope with everything happening around me. However, one compassionate teacher became a source of stability, support, love, and encouragement when I needed it most. When my parents divorced, my world felt as though it had done a full 180. The changes at home affected my confidence, happiness, and ability to focus on anything other than my family. At the same time the abusive relationship between me, my father, and my mother created additional stress and anxiety. Like many children facing difficult situations, I tried to hide behind an armor of a smile and pretend everything was fine. What I did not realize at the time was how much I truly needed someone to notice just how badly I was hurting. One of my teachers did exactly that. She saw beyond my grades and classroom behavior and recognized I was carrying burdens much heavier than any child should have to carry. She treated me with kindness, patience, and understanding. Her classroom truly became a place where I felt safe, seen, and cared for more than at home. She never pushed me to open up but when I did she never judged me for what I was going through. Instead, she offered encouragement, listened when I needed to get things off my chest, and consistently reminded me that I was capable of succeeding despite my home situation. The impact she had on my life extended far beyond her academic work. She never had to put forth the effort she did to make me feel the way I did in her classroom but during that time when I questioned my worth, she helped me see what I was capable of. She made me feel loved and accepted, even on the days where I struggled to see the point of life. Her compassion showed me that a teacher's role is much greater than simply teaching lessons from a textbook from twenty years ago. I realized that teachers roles in children's lives transcends that and they have the ability to shape lives, minds, provide hope, and help students see the possibilities they may not be able to see themselves. Because of her influence, I began to see education in a new way. I realized schools can be a place of healing and support, especially for students facing challenges outside of the classroom. I knew that I wanted to become a teacher who made the kind of impact my teacher had on me. I want to have the classroom students feel safe in, the classroom they feel accepted in, and the classroom they feel loved in. I want children to know their goals are not out of their reach regardless of the obstacles they face. Today, my experience has given me a deep sense of empathy and a strong desire to serve others. Rather than allowing my hardships to define me, I have used them as motivation to break the cycle and pursue my dream. My drive to become a teacher comes from the belief that every child deserves someone who believes in them. I want to be that someone.

Higher education has always been a goal of mine, but the path of reaching it has not been easy. I have always seen higher education as a way to help me escape from the hardships at home and throughout my life, I have faced many personal and familial challenges that have shaped my character and who I inspired the career I hope to achieve. As the child of divorced parents who was raised in the custody of my father, I experienced significant changes at a young age. In addition to navigating the emotional impact of my parents divorce, I also endured abusive family relationships that I have had to learn to overcome and utilize as a motivator. While these experiences were extremely painful, they taught me resilience, perseverance, and the importance of finding caring adults who can make a positive influence on one's life, and in my case, young children's lives. One of the greatest roadblocks I have faced in my pursuit of higher education has been overcoming the emotional effects of my family situation while continuing to focus on my academics and future goals. There were times when balancing school, extracurriculars, and relationships, with the challenges I was facing at home became too overwhelming. However, I learned that difficult circumstances do not have to define a person's future. And I did not want to let my circumstances control mine. I used those hardships as motivation to work harder and create opportunities for myself. Through determination, support from loved ones I met along the way, and commitment to my education, I have remained focused on building a better future for myself. One of the people that had some of the largest impact on my life during this time was a teacher. After my parents' divorce, I often felt lost, confused, angry, responsible, and unsure if I really fit in this world. However, this teacher was one of the first people who truly helped me through that difficult period and helped me realize that the world is not all gloom and ugliness. She made me feel seen, valued, important, and loved when I needed it most. Her classroom became a place where I felt safe and supported, and her kindness showed me the powerful difference a teacher can have on a child's life. She did much more than teach academic lessons; she helped me rebuild my confidence and reminded me that I mattered in one of my toughest times. Because of her example, I decided to pursue a career in elementary education. I want to be the kind of teacher that she was to me for other children. I want to be the teacher with the classroom that makes children feel safe, accepted, and encouraged. I understand firsthand that students often bring troubles with them that may not be visible to others. And I also understand that one teacher's compassion can make an enormous difference in helping a child feel secure and capable of succeeding. My goal is to provide not only academic lessons but also support, understanding, acceptance, and encouragement to my future students. As I pursue a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Dance, I hope to inspire creativity, confidence, and a love of learning in young children. Receiving this scholarship would help me to continue my education and move closer to achieving my dream of becoming a teacher. Most importantly, it would allow me to give back the same generosity, kindness, and love that teacher gave to me and help a child in need, whether I know they need it or not.
