FinalistBio
I was born in Peru but spent my early childhood in Philadelphia, a place that still feels like home. After my father passed away when I was six months old, my mother and I returned to Peru, where she raised me alone with courage and perseverance. Her strength inspired me to build my own, and her decision to use her retirement savings to fund my education motivates me every day to make that sacrifice meaningful.
My life goal is to become a business leader who drives innovation and creates opportunities for others, especially women, through entrepreneurship and financial education. That’s why I chose to study Business at Penn State University’s Main Campus, a major that aligns with my passion for turning ideas into solutions that have real social impact.
From leading service trips in Huaraz and Tambopata to founding Equilibra, a social initiative educating girls in Peru about menstrual health, I’ve learned that leadership means serving with empathy and resilience. I believe I am a strong candidate because I bring more than determination — I bring a story of perseverance, a global perspective shaped by two cultures, and a commitment to using my education to uplift others and honor my mother’s strength.

I was born in Peru but spent my early childhood in Philadelphia, where my parents built a life filled with hope, love, and opportunity. My earliest memories are of calm parks, family dinners, and my parents’ dreams for the future. When I was three and a half years old, my father passed away unexpectedly and everything changed. My mother and I returned to Peru to rebuild our lives, carrying with us the strength and lessons that my father left behind.
Growing up in a single-parent household taught me the true meaning of resilience. My mother became my entire world—provider, mentor, and protector. Despite facing uncertainty, she never let me feel limited by our circumstances. She taught me that strength is not about perfection, but about perseverance and faith in moments of difficulty. Watching her confront every challenge with dignity inspired me to work hard, stay kind, and believe that education can transform a person’s future.
Through years of dedication, I earned my place at Markham College, where I completed the International Baccalaureate program. There, I discovered my passion for leadership and service. I led community trips to Huaraz and Tambopata, helping build homes for families in need, and later founded Equilibra, a social initiative that educates and supports girls in Peru by promoting menstrual health awareness and self-confidence. These experiences taught me that leadership is not about titles—it is about empathy, collaboration, and action that uplifts others.
During the leadership trip to Huaraz, I experienced a serious car accident that changed my perspective on life. Though my friends and I survived, the experience left me with physical and emotional scars that took months to heal. For a long time, I struggled with fear and uncertainty, but over time I learned to find peace within myself. That moment reminded me how fragile and precious life is, and how every challenge can become a source of strength. It deepened my empathy for others and strengthened my desire to make every opportunity count—not only for myself, but for those I hope to help in the future.
Being accepted to Penn State University’s Main Campus is the realization of a lifelong dream. Returning to Pennsylvania—the place where my earliest memories were formed—represents both personal and emotional fulfillment. However, achieving this goal has required tremendous sacrifice. My mother, now retired, is using her savings to fund my education. Her support is my greatest gift, but it is also a financial burden that I hope to help ease through hard work and opportunity.
This scholarship would not only relieve part of that financial strain but also allow me to focus fully on my studies and continue pursuing leadership, service, and innovation. It would be more than financial assistance—it would be an investment in my potential and in my mother’s lifelong belief that education is a force for transformation. My goal is to honor her sacrifices by turning opportunity into meaningful, lasting impact.
